Following immediately after the events of THE RAID, Rama (Iko Uwais) is forced to reinvent himself as an undercover cop in order to provide protection for his wife and child. Working for the anti-corruption taskforce led by the one person he can trust, Bunawar, he is given a mission to engage himself as an enforcer for a local mob boss, Bangun. Finding a way in through Bangun's son Uco, Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with police force corruption. I love it when the movie script sets up these badass villains with their own fight sequences, so that you have a background of their capabilities before they go head to head against the hero at the end fight. That's how you build up anticipation and add value to the final fight. Very well done!
That's why their final fight with Rama is so badass. You know how destructive and sadistic these two are, and yet Rama still was able to defeat them in the end. Proves how skilled Rama really is.
Isn't that the absolute basics of any action movie? So much so that it feels clicheed? Typically they mop up a good friend of the hero.

The hammer girl (Julie Estelle) before this wasn't known for action movie actress. She is usually known for drama actress.
She learned martial arts in just 6 months for this movie and it came up like she already been one for years.
Now she basically in many action movies. Great actress, she is.

I love how , during the movie, these two assassins are shown to be extremely dangerous and no one can match them, and then they both are killed by Rama. It really shows how skilled Rama is

I didn’t really appreciate what sells this scene for me then it hit me, it’s the sound effects. The sound of the metal bat and the hammers hitting, the wet sound of bodies bursting, it’s what takes this from a well choreographed scene to a brutal assault. Kudos to whoever the sound design guy was.

being deaf is an advantage for her since she doesnt need to feel any sympathy or remorse toward the victim pleading for their life cause she did this for money no personal feeling involved.

Fun Fact: The weapons they used are symbolism to their traumatic childhood. The siblings were abused by their father with the very weapons they mastered as assassins.
If I'm not mistaken, both killed their dad with a baseball bat and a hammer. The weapons were not just a random choice. It reminded them of their freedom and how to utilize it for their enemies.
I personally wouldn't mind to see a prequel about these two.

Very interesting and that would make sense based on the vague info from the movie alone but now I must read this comic book to explore these characters further. Both enigmatic characters, as is the third part of their trio in the Assassin but they really capture the imagination just based on small details in their characters. Like I'd imagine the reason Hammer Girl is one eyed and mute is due to that abuse, though that's just speculation based on this new info learned, appreciate the new info at any rate!

Don't forget that her choice are every day tools far less conspicuous than a bat. Her weapons are cheap, concealable, and as long as the blood is wiped off, people won't think too much about finding them somewhere, unlike purpose built weapons...

I think the most interesting thing about these two characters is their efficiency. no wasted movements.
I still feel sorry for that one guy (3:26) who got served a full combo by the baseball bat man. It's as if that one guy pissed him off the most somehow.

I like that the woman has the most brutal and gory fighting style but in a way that's totally believable in universe. She's not inexplicably stronger, or more badass than the men, she doesn't have some quippy line or anything. She's just a fighter like the rest of them who happens to be really good at dual wielding hammers.

There's a reason why Hammergirl did the assault onboard the train, and Rama took out the gang in the apartment alley on Raid1. Just like SunTzu, those silat fighters are trained to take advantage of the environment and surroundings, and do the "step" that make you only exposed to as few attacks as possible. Look for Iko Uwais & Gareth Evans teach silat video, they explain about it there.
At 4:12 I loved how the guy in the suit had the decency to wait for the baseball bat guy to finish off his previous victim, and only attacked when the guy was ready. Really, an honourable man!!

For a moment I wondered why all the big gangs and henchmen in this genre of movie always seem to have cool exotic melee weapons instead of guns, but then I remember oh right it's set in a country that actually has gun control laws.

Bat Man's the only one who ever talks, so presumably they use sign language since she's mute. (A deaf assassin would be super bad). But frankly it's surprising you don't see more assassin or ninja characters use sign language in films, considering that not only is it silent communication, you could use it in real life and there's a low probability of someone understanding you.

While assassin who do work in broad daylight or places and time with good visibility would certainly benefit, those who approach their target using the cover of night would be greatly disadvantaged

Somehow I like "Hammer Girl". The scenery while on the train, looks very calm, beautiful and the characters are cool. Female characters I like in martial arts movies (Hammer Girl, The Raid).

This scene and movie alone is very well done, especially when small details and logical human emotions and our daily reactions were all included and clearly shown here, for example, assassins, no matter how deadly they were, they're still humans with emotions and gestures while interacting with one another, take one example during the 0:00 first scene, the siblings are just interacting like normal people before carrying out their respective assignments which is to kill brutally in cold blood, but deep down, no matter how cold one can be, they're still very much human, only skilled and highly trained at what they do best than most of us normal individuals. Plus, the scene when Hammer assassin is killed by Rama, and Baseball Bat assassin's emotional reaction and rage were all too real to believe in the realest of worlds! Overall, this scene and the rest of the Raid franchise movies are two of the best ever made action movies in the history of mankind! Wish more movies like The Raid exist instead of what we're getting for today which is rather, disappointing.. 😢 The Raid is the real deal !
