- The LEGO Technic 42151 Bugatti Bolide set is expected to be released on January 1st 2023. You could already see my detailed preview, this time I show you the whole building process with all the details, the new parts, and some quite interesting theories about this set.

It's a cool looking set and a good source for the new panels. My only complaint is the missing differential. If the designers continue to build at this scale it would be beneficial to finally introduce a 3 module differential to fit these cars. The fans have asked for this for ages. You could outfit the John Deere tractor, smaller trucks and make 4wd possible in tighter spaces.
Not sure if planning to buy it, but it's a good functional set, at a good price, and building experience. Surprised to see so many new panels/pieces for a standalone car in 23. Will be interesting to see what uses Lego will find for that smaller fender piece down the road as it's perfect for smaller scale vehicles. Also flick fires in red for I think the first time is interesting to see.
This car is such an awesome panel pack, and that mini engine is very nicely done!
I got the set and I finished building it this morning. I absolutely LOVE it. So I'm generally not a big Bugatti fan but I'm head over heels in love with the Bolide. No regrets with this set. I'm just very happy to have a Lego model of this Bugatti!
Great review! I really like the new panels, they seem to be mini versions of the older ones, which will make smaller models with higher detail possible. Keep up the great work!
This scale of technic cars is one of my favourites cuz of price and the look of them. When I get this it’s gonna display well with the corvette McLaren and mustang

I finished building this set and it's really awesome! There were a few tweaks I made to mine and stickers I didn't put on to make it appear cleaner. Overall, definitely worth the $50.

Another comprehensive and insightful review! I am probably gonna pick up this set if not else for all the new panels.
I bought this set as my first Lego Technic build, and I wasn't disappointed. I had intended to use this as a set to experiment with alternate builds, but I like this design, so I think I'll keep it. I'll experiment with a different set, like the corvette. I struggled with the smaller stickers, but I learned the value of tweezers in the process. I like the set, and I appreciated the review before I bought it. Thanks!
It's a nice set! I don't think it's quite nice enough to overcome my Technic car fatigue, but it looks like a fun build with some good building techniques
Finally black axles are back! Making a set look cool and ruining it with multicoloured axles was always a pain…
If only they used some black pins as well

fun fact: they're not back. They appeared in many, many sets before this. For example, they were found in the 2020 crocodile locomotive

But maybe sets, where there were black axles, were mostly non-Technic?
@@IvanForpatril In Technic yes, both the recent McLarens (Senna and Formula 1) used them as well as the Sián, but before then, large gap to 2006 (5 sets used a total of 15 pieces 2007-2017)
@@Stereomoo I'm not sure I get your point. Sian is peppered with blue 3L pins poking throigh lime-green panels and red axles are also quite visible in various places. Senna is also sprayed with red axles, most noticeable in the rear wing. F1 car I have to check, can't be sure.
Can't believe Lego has done it again with this set, gonna have to get this one when I can!
Great set! Really like the look of it, but then i really like the actual car. They did a great job replicating it and it has some fun, if basic features.

1/3 through the review. When you said "Senna" I started smiling like a mad man. I already have the Senna and I want this Bolide to have them side by side.
See me personally i would buy this it seems like an amazing build, amazing part usage and a very unique color scheme/them.
The alternative Renault F1 model for this one on rebrickable is also flipping awesome. Made me buy a second one straight away.

Great review - as always ! In my sets I use only black pins and 2L axles. Can you show us the modification of the rear axle ? Either split up like the McClaren or even installing a differential.

My only complaint are the wheel axles. Don't care for how they stick out or the color. They should've been black. Overall, nice build and color scheme. As always, your builds and opinions are greatly appreciated.
The LEGO Technic model livery is in the colors yellow and black, in contrast to the blue and black version of the car that we can find in the CSR Racing video game (Custom Street Racing for Android and Apple) from which it is derived and of which it reproduces the graphic elements of the livery itself (CSR logo sticker placed in correspondence of the wheel arch of the two rear wheels). In the lower right corner, on the front of the box, is also located the logo of the video game. The digital version of the supercar was usable as in the 2-to-5 slot the Supercar Science: Bugatti event (th-cam.com/video/MQaQxEAZKFk/w-d-xo.html), which was available from December 23, 2020 to January 6, 2021. The Bugatti Bolide was only available as an in-app purchase, on its own or bundled with the Bugatti Divo and Bugatti Centodieci.

Nice set. I'm passing on it, because I don't have any of the smaller Technic cars. The 1:10 and 1:8 scale are mostly what I have.

Nice, I think they should have made the Bug a lil bigger. Like the same size as the Mclaren would hav been more better. I'll get it sometime down the line.
The irl mclaren is longer than the irl Bugatti, that’s why the Lego Bugatti is shorter than the Lego mclaren
0:25 CSR Racing 2 has a Bugatti Bolide in the game so it makes sense that they add the game logo at the car

1:50 did I just see the CSR 3 on the picture? I think the devs just teased that CSR 3 is coming in the near future (maybe early or middle of 2023). Let's just hope that the trailer comes out!
My only issue probably is the headlights or what is supposed to be headlights being a tad too far back
CSR 2 was the first game to receive the Bolide as a drivable vehicle, I’m not sure if that’s the relation to the set

When moving it do you feel and gear the clicking of engine. Mine does which makes moving it not smooth i cant undetstand what has went wrong. Thankyou.
The first thing i noticed about this set is how the wheel axles stick out. Not one review I have watched or read mention this. Lots of attention given to other things such the amount of stickers, wiggly front wing, doors rubbing against the a-pillars or the lack of a differential (I totally get that one). Yet no one has noted the axles.
Am I the only person who has noticed this?
What is the device and app that you use to test the engine? Any place I can buy it?
I really hope this is just the first step on a journey back to sensible colors in Technic. Black 2L axles were sorely needed, and I expect the red ones to be phased out soon (except for contexts in which they actually make sense, such as the Exo-Force robots' eyes, for which they were originally introduced).
Anyway next up is obviously black 3L friction pins, and maybe even black 2L axle pins with friction, which were gone for even longer.
This is where my hopes end and my wildest dreams begin, but for completeness' sake, I'll share those as well:
- all axles with stop are dark gray, all odd-lengthed axles are light gray, all even-lengthed axles are black
- back to light and dark gray and maybe black for gears, maybe keep tan as well, but get rid of red, blue, turquoise, azure, …
- all bushes are light gray. Period.
- recolor the transmission shifter pieces from red and orange to some more muted colors (but they are still allowed to stick out, after all they perform an important action)
- just stop using gaudy colors for pieces that are still produced in more sensible ones, such as the 1L pin with towball or the 1L axle/2L pin
I don't think the red ones will be phased out, color coding does not go away. There might be compromises on the "surface" of the models to improve the look, but the system itself won't change. Color coding actually helps the average builders, even at this set I could feel the difference with many similar black pieces, it was more difficult to identify the parts to use.
@@RacingBrick Your opinion is completely valid based on your assumptions, but I make different ones. I don't think color coding helps the average builder, but rather the _novice_ builder (though admittedly I only speak from experience, I haven't done the research), and I think Technic should strive to be for master builders (at least predominantly).
Similar parts that come in the same color should either come in separate bags (as 2L pins already do so they can't be mixed up with 2L axles), or there should be a warning at the start of the instructions, "here's a list of similar parts, pay attention when using any of them to make sure you're using the right one".
Where color coding actually CAN be useful is when orientation matters, or for cable management in motorized models. But there you need to put the same part in multiple colors.
@@PhoenixClank you shouldn't forget that Technic is still for kids mainly, just like the majority of the LEGO sets. I tested Technic building with a lot of different people, beginners, novice builders and experienced ones. I also asked some of them to build monocrhomatic non-LEGO sets with lots of similar pieces with the same color, and everybody truly hated the building experience. I totally understand that some expert adult builders would prefer to have simple colors, but this is still a toy for the masses so making the building experience easy and smooth for everyone is still one of the top priorities.

But since you apparently did the research I'll accept that I'm part of a minority.
I don't know too much about alternative brick manufacturers' Technic equivalents, but in my impression, most of them also use colorful pins and axles, so that seems to support your point. Though some importers offer to replace the pins with neutrally-colored ones, so there seems to be a sizable market for that as well.
When I was a kid in the 90s I still managed to build sets with only two or three colours just fine. It turns out you can figure out the length of an axle without making your lego technic look like duplo. It was part of the charm that you built something advanced.
To be honest I don't know what attracts kids to lego technic nowadays, judging from the merchandising kits instead of true technic that gets released nowadays we're never coming back
okay i have 2 questions first of all my engine doesnt do the thing he did which is go up and down and second of all when you finish a pack are you supposed to have some pieces left or did i do something wrong

I am having an issue eith the engine.
When i drive the car forward it runs good but when i run it backwards it gets stuck
The different color technic pieces have different dimensions slightly or different friction coefficients. Different colors are therefore better for rotating assemblies, and some are better for stationary assemblies. The red pins possibly were used at the front for the exact reason you highlighted - other pins would move too much.
(This information might be heretical.. been a while since I played with Technic enough to know if this assessment is accurate.. but I have seen the difference matter in mechanical builds online so I feel somewhat justified with the opinion.)

It's a fun game that's mostly about drag racing cars - it was good at what it was trying to be back then
How curious that the name resurfaced on a Lego set of all things..
I think it’s there because CSR 2 was first game to incorporate the Bolide as a drivable vehicle, due to the games long partnership with Bugatti
8:44 it reminds me more like the Jesko rear wing
the cylinders wont connect to the core of the engine on my set, ive used all the pieces given to me but the core of the engine is just too short to fit, the cog at the end of the grey axle piece wont fit on the end once the cylinders are connected
I really like it, I have the transporter too with one more spot. Am tempted to get this but I will hold out for the Ford GT. Was tempted to get both and take off the shelby but funds dictate ha ha 😂
The CSR Racing logo is since they have the exclusive rights to the cars likeness for games and reproduction, as they do with a few other cars (the new Hoonitron for example), so anything Bolide branded is also CSR branded

I don't understand the need for red axles, I know the reason but all they need to do is put them in their own little bag separate from the black pins

What bugs me is that they don’t use a different color of pin for the pistons. The similar sized mclaren is the same way and I’m sure plenty of other cars.
At 7:52-7:54 in the video, I can’t seem to fit the pieces together; the lower black bit is just too long and it won’t connect both. How do I fix this? It’s driving me mad.

ok. im 4 months late. but the bugatti bolide has another version coming to release in june 1st. its the bugatti bolide agile,its just in blue. so maybe csr3 might get released with the agile version. idk tho

100% Bolide. The building experience and the features are in a completely different league.
What is the main difference between technic cars and Speed Champions? Its more than just the brick count and difficulty right?
The main difference is the building style, Technic sets use Technic pieces and focus on functionality, Speed Champions use System pieces and go for a faithful look at a given scale.
