The cost of good equipment has gone up significantly in the past 4 years. While the prices went up, many companies seemed to lose quality. For whatever reason, what might have been great 5 years ago might not be now. While I was looking for a dump trailer, I looked at Diamond C, Lamar, Load Trail, and a Canadian-built Galvanized trailer. The Galvanized trailer was $5K more than a Diamond C so I quickly moved on.
We always want the best quality, but the cost difference for a Diamond C was pretty significant and the quality between Lamar and Diamond C was pretty close to the level of the dump trailer I was looking to purchase. Load Trail also makes a nice dump trailer, but they do not have the same fit and finish as Lamar and some of the things they design into the trailer seem like cost-cutting rather than innovative. The single item I liked on the Load Trail was the rear drop-down supports. They looked a lot larger and maybe more stable.
The powder coating on the Lamar is far superior to many others on the market. The grey color might be hard to match with a rattle can, but they seem to cover more of the trailer than many others, especially PJ!
The perfect paint match in a rattle can for Lamar trailers is Rust-Oleum Charcoal Gray. 👍
Just to note I have seen most manufacturers do a spot weld on the sides. VERY RARELY have I ever seen folded sides in that size. So just to note there is absolutely no con on that 7 gauge floor.
Great channel and video!
If you raise the dump some you can load small mowers and things easier without bottoming out
5 years ago I bought a Lamar 8'x16' 7k Heavy duty utility trailer an 2 years later I purchased a 5'x10' 7k deluxe dump trailer. They work great for when I'm doing jobs with Kubota bx23s. Customer service is top notch also when I wanted to purchase one of those front mounted tool boxes for my utility trailer. You can also buy the gray paint direct from them as my dealer never has any in stock. I bought 3 cans to do touch ups an they were only $9 a can
Thank you for the tip on the paint!
hi I’m looking in to getting in the junk removal business. I was thinking about the f250 or 350 with a trailer. If that falls in the cdl category which I have a license already does that mean u have to get dot also. Also what’s better diesel or gas?
I have a 2017 14x7 pj low profile and you are right. While I think it’s a well built trailer that powder coating is terrible and the drop axils not only make it too low when dumping but also the drop spindle puts too much leverage on the axil and cause them to bend easily.
Nice review. I love how you pointed out the bad as well as the good. I was down to Lamar and Diamond C. Ended up ordering a Diamond C MDT. I don't see how one could go wrong with either. Beautiful trailer you got there.
Bought the same exact trailer in November 23 really love can go down the road mat 70 with 4 tons and tracks nice and straight just ordered a hydraulic Jack from Stillwell hate jacking with a lot of weight I’m cranky enough without cranking that thing should be a nice upgrade
Nice review!
I been eyeing a Lamar dump trailer for a few months now, I think you hit on a lot of the points already on my list. I do wish the tail lights were on the side rails for protection foremost, and much better visibility second. And since you pointed it out, balanced wheel/tires are great - wouldn't have considered that until you mentioned it.
And I agree, my first equipment trailer was a PJ and after I started finding powder coat in my driveway after 4 months, I won't buy another.
Love the review!
good video. I would think a guy could put on a longer strut on that tool box to extend higher. Easy fix.
Nice! Lamar trailers has the best powder coating by far!
Agree. Big Tex used to have great paint, but not since they were bought out by private equity. QC has slipped as Bain squeezed more profit from this formerly great trailer brand. My 2016 almost looks new. I wouldn’t buy another today.
Granny down does not take a very , very long time to get down, that’s an insane statement. I have owned plenty of dump trailers. That has never been a issue
Still liking it? Looking at kaufman (concerns about bit cheap), diamond c (bit too pricey and some other concerns), and lamar this seems like a good middle ground.
Still think this is one of the best out there. A friend has a load trail and it is nice also.
I just purchased a diamond c dump trailer. It’s great!
They are nice. Congrats
Am looking hard at these type of trailer most versatile but with all the options fold down sides and lift from the very front and a 16x8 wide I think what I want to buy
Great video 👍
I appreciate you Sir
How much cubic yards of gravel or dirt can it lift up when evenly loaded?
Now that's a nice dumper!
I cant figure out how to open the spreader gate
How does it tow fully loaded?? And what do you tow it with ??
You know it is behind you when it is fully loaded! But it is balanced well and does not buck or teeder todder. I have a gmc 6.6 gas with a six speed and a 6.6 diedel with a 10 speed. The diesel does better, but the gas is not bad at all.
Great review, I am considering to purchase a dump trailer to do some storm cleanups, I work within the tree industry, do you think that size will be a good fit for logs and brush?
14’ might be fine, but I always recommend buying more trailer, tractor, truck than you think you need now. If your truck will pull it, you should consider a 16’ 14K trailer (or a 15,600 “down-rated” to 14K). Some bash the scissor lift and say that the telescoping is better. I suggest that you have your dealer raise the bed on a scissor lift & telescoping lift half way. Now push on either front corner of the dump bed. You’ll see the amount of side to side movement that you can make between the two types of lift mechanisms. The scissor lift resists side to side movement better than telescopic. This difference will be helpful when dumping on less than flat ground.
so why isent there anyone that have made a trailer with a Hoist and a Telescopic together, then it's strong and fast
Any of you live on gravel? How has the framing paint held up? Someone I know that lives near me has a smaller Lamar trailer and the frame got super dinged up within a year and a half and rusting.
Not sure if Lamar smaller trailers are powder coated as well or not
To make sure no one steals it, park it in the bedroom, send the wife to the couch!
What size truck do you have (or need) for that trailer?
I have a GMC 2500 with the 6.6 gas and it does fair with it loaded. You run higher RPMs to get it moving. I also have a 3500 with the 6.6 diesel and it tows it like nothing it there. An F250 or F350 would be great. You never want to load all the material up front or all in the back. It should be spread out pretty evenly for the most part and the trailer takes a lot of the weight.
What size pickup are you using?
In this video, it is just a 3/ 4 ton reg cab gmc gasser
Can you haul your 4066R tractor in this trailer or would you prefer a goose-neck trailer?
I can haul the 4066 with the loader inside this. No attachments due to size. I haul the 4066 on my hydraulic tilt bed trailer because that one is longer.
@@WorkshopAddict Thats Nice !
Nice presentation, I woul have liked to know the price too ... but I guess it's not polite to ask :)
83 x 14 was 11,200 with the matching spare. Prices are all over the board.
@@WorkshopAddict Just found this video today (and subscribed), as I'm in the market for a new dump trailer and this Lamar is my #1 choice. That's a great price - best I can find is actually close to me in Little Rock, AR - $10,700 but *without* a spare tire. Prices out of state are $1K to $2K more...crazy how prices are all over the board.
@mycenae2 Prices seem to be dependant on the economy in your area still. Michigan is struggling and I am seeing sales not in the upper 9k range.
Could you have went to a 16ft with a 16000gvw with your truck without going over and having a cdl
Everyone showing video of them dumping dry material or rock, lets get the actual bullshit footage of the sticky wet dirt that you have to shovel out.
