My monologue had just been sitting gathering dust for months until I stumbled across your channel. Now I can't put it away. I had no idea it was so versatile. Thanks for helping me get my head round what it's capable of :)
+noel gaul wow, that warms my heart! Glad to hear you're having fun with it again, and thanks for taking the time to comment. And there are more videos to come so keep an eye on the channel!
A lot of this isn't really what I would expect from the Monologue. I think it gets pegged into a certain hole because of its filter, but to sum this song up in one word, with regards to the Monologue, it has to be "versatility." I think you very smartly utilized a lot of its sounds in a way that is both subtle and effective. This doesn't sound like a "Monologue Times 4" track or something like that, this just seems like an organic expression that just happens to use the Monologue. I particularly love the growling bass that feels like it's building up resentment and could unleash hell at any moment.
Thank you! Yes the Monologue can be twisted into lots of different places for sure. I actually use it as a drum machine more than anything else these days!
Mostly I sequenced the notes via midi in Reaper (but any DAW would work) and tweaked knobs live, and built up the track up layer by layer. The one exception was the drums where I used the internal sequencer and just synchronised the clock (check out my video on building a drum machine on the Monologue for more information on how I achieved it). Happy to answer any more specific questions.
I think I did it over midi because my audio interface has midi in and out, but you could just as easily do it over the USB connection (which would show up as a midi device in the DAW).
When i connect it with USB i can see the notes showing up in Reaper, but i don't hear any of the sounds. Do you know what could be the problem by any chance?
Hey man I know you've moved on to other things but could you please ask yr underlings to ask you to make a short vid on making Monologue Brass sounds pls? a lot like couple of sounds in this song actually Cheers
If only I had underlings to help out! I'm guessing you mean the lower sounds in this jam? That sounds like a Square on VCO1, a Saw on VCO2, slightly detuned. Filter low, with a moderate/high resonance, EG sent to filter, top mode, instant attack, long decay. It sounds like there might be a slow filter LFO, but I'm thinking I might be doing that manually during the performance by actually turning the filter knob, and actually there's some Shape modulation happening instead. That will probably get you in the ballpark, but this video is old so I'm trying to reverse engineer the sound in my head, rather than remembering anything.
+stripemusicdotcom I mean, personally I like oscilloscopes, but I get that it's not to everyone's taste. A static shot of a keyboard being triggered over midi would surely be less interesting though? Unfortunately I am not a visual artist and Premier / Aftereffects are both really expensive, so for the meantime, I'm making do with what I have! Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
you can download the video version and use it if you like. I see you still promote it with the original video, which seems odd when you could have a proper video. I'm not interested in credit, just use it. :)
Very good, congratulations.

A good example of what Monologue can do by itself, thanks!
+Gill Salty thanks for checking it out!
This synth is a beast and you totally control it! and tx for the previous videos tutorials on it!
+BER thank you!! And there are more tutorials to come ;)
I agree with BER. The 3rd oscillator tutorial thought me some serious stuff about synthesis, thanks :).
Amazing job showing off the versatility of this little beast.
+Mark McCubbin thanks you, glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome example of what a monologue can do in the right hands!
Thank you! It's a really great synth.
Oh yeah I own one. Love it.
I love the twinkly LFO sound in the background, its very nice! Everything about this is very nice.
Thank you!
Nice! Also great use of graphics!
This track sounds really nice. I like it.
+Yo! Thank you!
Counting the days, hours, minutes and secs til mine arrives. itchy little fingers!
+Pat Kelly oh, you're in for a treat! It's awesome! Check out the patch packs and tutorials I've released on my channel for some inspiration.

Very inspiring!!!
+Christian's Sonic Spaces thanks for having a listen!
Good work :-)
Just passing by.. I really like your instrumental track. I 100% know it takes a bit to write a instrumental using only one monosynth. Happy Holidays.
And to you!
pretty cool ;)
Best Druid Dub
Liked and subbed
+Electronic Musician thank you! Appreciate it!
Snares r ace
Seems to do noise really gud
does it do beef in the bass dept without any extraneous tops really?
+Pat Kelly it's never going to be "Moogy" in that massive bottom end way, but it can get pretty beefy yes!
how do you go about recording this and putting multiple tracks together?
Mostly I sequenced the notes via midi in Reaper (but any DAW would work) and tweaked knobs live, and built up the track up layer by layer. The one exception was the drums where I used the internal sequencer and just synchronised the clock (check out my video on building a drum machine on the Monologue for more information on how I achieved it). what cables do you use for that. Just the usb connection?
I think I did it over midi because my audio interface has midi in and out, but you could just as easily do it over the USB connection (which would show up as a midi device in the DAW).
Thanks so much!

Bloody great, but surely you could do better video, just point the cam at a keyboard would be better than this

Lol that's ok, I'm a video editor, we can do oscilloscopes, taking over the world, in Vegas, wherever.
