- It’s possible that this is one of the smallest homes that we have visited on the show so far and yet without doubt it is one of the most spectacular in it’s design. Japan is a country already world-famous for it’s small space designs, and so it should come as no surprise that when Japanese master-craftsman Tagami Haruhiko turned his attention towards the tiny house movement, amazing things would happen.

I have been noticing that the tiny houses have slowly been getting bigger and bigger less tiny. This house here is totally recapturing the spirit of a true tiny home 💕

Yes, I don't think it is using clever design inside if you need to increase the dimensions of a tiny house to fit all the essential equipment in.
I think the spirit of a tiny house is really dependent upon the man or woman who is building it. Tiny homes became of Interest to live in a different way. Some are choosing not have any mortgage so they build based on their budget, some are choosing to get rid of excess or downsize so they might build it smaller or not, some are looking to travel with a family and need to have a smaller space to have a budget to be able to do so, and others are choosing a lifestyle of a nomad to work on the road and want to have whatever they want with them. I think the spirit of a tiny house is determined by the one choosing to create a life for himself that works. Each man or woman choosing to live in a different way has their priorities and desires which will bring a different spirit 2 each home. For me, It is not important that we follow our spirit and not a preconceived idea of the spirit of a tiny house. As long as we do what we find is best for us in our lives we cannot go wrong. tiny houses became a popular thing because so many of us Did not have any answers and were living every moment just to have a place to sleep. Most of us have no time to enjoy or relax or learn or develop great relationships. it is still difficult for most to be able to create a tiny house because they are very expensive still. Having lost everything when my daughter and I were rear-ended in a hit-and-run twice by a large commercial truck, I am just looking for ways to create a tiny house. I have designed a tiny home because I was in a collision and lost everything. I'm only doing it because I do not have the funds to purchase a nice size house again. I love space. I create better in big Open Spaces where I can write and think and contemplate. my house was about 3,500 square feet and did not feel too big for me. I had friends stay with me often who were visiting town for conventions or just to visit. I also took in 15 complete strangers and gave them everything they needed to be able to get back on their feet again who I had for a year to three years each . I usually had one two three at a time only . Let us remember that we should not b making our lives based upon what we think the spirit of a tiny house is, especially when it does not suit us. my design has everything the regular size and I don't have anything in my plans 4 entertaining because I will have a large deck and outside living area with barbecue for having friends over. and hopefully a fire pit and a gazebo in the flower garden and a veggie garden and fruit trees Etc built up around the home. Blessings to everyone. And remember to build your tiny house with a spirit that you want as big or as small as you choose because there is no one who can say that it is not a tiny house for you. It is possible to find TH-cam videos about the importance that space has in all our lives. One video I saw a few years ago said that those with a large Consciousness require large spaces. and that those who are used to living in smaller spaces and then are put into larger spaces have their Consciousness expand. certainly the powers-that-be are very interested to have each of us be willing to accept the smallest space possible...even a 4 by four square foot space so we are accepting a jail cell as normal. let us not forget to each his own and what is Tiny for me maybe a mansion for someone else. to me anything less than 500 square feet per each man or woman is truly outrageous.
@@secrets2youth I agree on many points but in my opinion you can said that happiness, sadness, entertainment, etc. is different from individual to individual because are universal yet abstract, adaptable concepts but you can't do the same with other universal like liberty, justice, and concrete concepts as are describing the porpoise. A tiny means tiny. That is why we as civilization had a marvelous tool call dictionary. The correct natural course would be maybe another name for that bigger houses that are still way small than a worldwide average size. If we all start to understand everything in our own view with our limited bubble would be confusing and sometimes plainly misguided as sometimes is. The concept of the tiny house is that simple and beautiful, maybe we need more concepts derived from there to apply to new building.

If you think this production value is fantastic you have absolutely no idea of how serious youtube can get.
Some TH-camrs (mostly tech TH-camrs) use cameras that the brain alone is worth 50k. (RED Weapon 8k)
I would argue that youtube has better production value than most TV shows but there's a lot of shitty content on YT.
That said this channel is pretty good when it comes to production value.

I love these tiny home programs. The host genuinely presents every tiny home as though it’s the best one he’s every seen. BTW, I love this particular tiny home.

I love that Bryce is so genuinely interested in and invested in the homes. It feels like you learn a bit about the homeowners as well as the home. Their home is gorgeous. Such craftsmanship.

Of course, people in America are, on average, much larger than the average Japanese person, so a tiny home for Americans, or Kiwis, or Aussies, etc would be expected to be a bit larger.
This one is essentially a super-cool travel trailer. Also a great idea!

This is a proper tiny house. It’s actually small, mobile, and minimalistic, yet it is so beautifully done. The craftsmanship is amazing, it’s full of so many ingenious ideas, and really fits as a tiny house. A lot of other houses on this channel are still pretty big and extravagant and you can tell the people were still trying to force a full house into a smaller space, some even having so bad designs, but this one is really remarkable.
tell me where their shirts and pants are. the cleaning products, skin care, toiletries. their underclothes? it looks cold there.. the socks boots etc.. im calling bs.

This is probably my favorite tiny home so far . $30k for a well built home . You can’t get much better than Japanese architecture. Love it!

As a carpenter for over 30 yrs, the way they join wood together has always been something I’ve wanted to study.
Woooow. While I couldn't ever think of myself living in such a small space, the ingenuity of this house is off-the-charts! What's there not to like: it fits in a parking space, it has a fireplace, windows in every direction (very much light), solar, and best of all: every cubic centimeter has been carefully thought of. Truly a design masterpiece!

This is the wave of the future. Alot of people don't want to be tied down with one place or to a big mortgage and property taxes. Etc. It's too expensive.

I was mesmerized by their English the whole video. Have been living in Japan for almost 2 years, always being such a 'heartwarming' sense seeing Japanese can speak this fluently.
You can feel the craftsman's love in this space.
I've lived in Japan and I'd never met anyone who spoke English as well as these two. The lady with the pony tail sounds like it is her mother tongue and the other lady speaks English flawlessly with only a hint of an accent.
I met a japanese guy whose english was pretty much perfect. It had to do with that he worked for a company hat operated internationally and also had a good amount of employees that came from english speaking countries. It was encouraged there, to speak english.
The subtle language nuances that they speak with tells me they have spent many years living in America. Maybe in Torrance in Southern California which has a very large Japanese American population.
They most likely have lived in Canada, they use some words that are very similarly pronounced in Canada, I'd say maybe US as well, but I am leaning more towards canadian English!
You could be right, most likely they have both been to various places in 英語県 ( eigo ken ) means English Prefecture or “ English speaking World “
I'm surprised too! My friend is Japanese and she has lived here in Canada for 20 years and her accent is still so thick and her English still a little broken. I have a hard time understanding her sometimes.
Dude, there is no soft couch in that space, my tiny ass wouldn't feel at home at all. Kudos to these women whose asses are not as sassy as mine.
I think you may have missed the cushions they were sitting upon. That's traditional Japanese seating. The cushions can be made to 'fit your arse' and can be easily cleaned, etc.
So that's what they were sitting on.
They do keep a lot of things in their car... but, as anyone that takes a 'road trip' knows... that's what you do. The bedding, for instance. They probably have more issues when it's raining... but they can anticipate and drive to a covered location to transfer those belongings to the house before moving on. Seems like if inclement weather is on the horizon they take off for one of the 'roadside communities" where they can eat, etc.
The MOST important thing is their temperaments are well-suited for each other and the space.
I have to admit it would be a pipe dream for me to think I could do it for a long time successfully. However... I think I'd do more meditating and the thought of stopping often for a Hot Spring visit is VERY appealing.

I live in Vietnam and the beds are so hard it's like sleeping on the floor. Vietnamese p e ople usually prefer a hard bed (I sleep on an air mattress). The couches are harder than in thethe west too. I think some cultures are more comfortable with harder surfaces.

This is the most unique tiny house I have ever seen. It can no longer be described as a travel house. It is full of Zen and exquisite ingenuity. The structure of the logs is admirable from the inside to the outside, and even insists on the fireplace, which is even more amazing. The English of these two Japanese ladies is simply too fluent. I appreciate the moderator’s style introduction very comfortable, this should be my favorite episode I have ever watched.
Bryce this is one of your best interviews. I watched this from start to finish at least half a dozen times over the last few years. You ask such insightful questions and these women are so pleasant to listen to. I hope you continue to seek out interviews with novel houses such as this. Love your tiny,by the way. personally i feel you shouldn't inquire of building price. If you have to ask you can't afford it is my feeling .. plus if ones interested in the design cost they can figure it out based on their area cost per foot figures.. most of the special property's are pieces of art that have originated from a sacred space in each builder's realm of existence .. and if you ask me should not be quantified in terms of 'monetary costs' . Recently you asked an owner the cost.. and he shook his head in response and stated only - 'I don't know' and left the subject matter right there . I thought that a perfect moment .

You are entitled to your opinion, however, I'm always excited to see the cool houses and am always surprised at how inexpensive Living Big In a Tiny House's presentations are because they're always designed very cool, the price always shocks me (inexpensive) and gosh, I could listen to a Kiwi talk all day!

Aloe Vera You're talking to someone who has spent 2 years learning Japanese. Japanese is the hardest language an English speaker can take. The transition from conversational Japanese to English is even harder. You are being even more disingenuous by labelling this as simply a POC issue.
These women are native Japanese. So yes, the fact that they can speak English so eloquently is more than surprising. Why? Because i am told by my friends constantly how absurdly hard it is for them to speak English when we study. Emphasis on the conversational aspect; The Japanese "alphabet" equivalent is made up of pre-determined syllables (chi-shi-fu-ku etc). Speaking English is much harder since we don't have pre-determined syllables but rather the sound of each word can change dramatically by simply adding just letters.
I really don't know where your conflict with my comment lies. Yes my assumption stands to reason, because Japanese people normally don't speak English. Im the same way English people don't normally speak Japanese, Greek don't speak Russian and Chinese don't speak Italian. There is a world bigger than America you know. People aren't obligated to speak English. You assumption that POC more times than not can speak eloquent English is an American view.
I wouldn't take Alove Vera's comment to heart. When you're a non-native English speaker, especially in America where immigration isn't surprising, comments about one's English are often in conjunction with some degree of condescend and people often give themselves the task of 'helping' you, even if you're completely fluent. Or well, it used to be. At least in my experience, ever since the backlash of the Trump presidency, people are becoming a lot more polite, so myself and other non-natives I know have lately not gotten that sort of comments, granted I live in an extremely fortunate area.
TL;DR: You gave them a well-meaning compliment, I'm sure, but maybe past experiences have left some people jumpy.
Wow! What a truly pleasurable interview to watch. Both of these ladies seem so very well centered and obviously compatible with each other. Their tiny house is absolutely amazing on so many levels. It is the material manifestation of Mr. Haruhiko's genius. His brilliant utilization space is phenomenal. And Bryce Langston does a terrific job of creating a casual, warm and curious, conversation with these two ladies that gives them each an opportunity to reveal the many secrets of their magical miniature domicile. A thoroughly enjoyable video from start to finish. Two thumbs waaay up!

Me, too! I enjoy a separate room for my quilting but love these tiny homes! Especially appreciate the genuine humility, kindness and interest that Bryce shows to each person he meets. And Rasa does the best in showing EVERYTHING without being intrusive.

While watching amd listening to them give him praises, Tagami-san just earned my respect. He definitely showed inventive ideas (for a tiny house) and craftsmanship to this masterpiece. Personally love the sitting area and the tucked away cooler box.

I live in a wonderful, desired climate, yet I would get way too hot in this one with so much window space.

For me, more important is I must have a bathroom. A full service bathroom is by far more important to me than a kitchen. I can live off fruits, nuts, seeds, bread and raw veggies and water, so I can survive w/out a kitchen - not a bathroom.
Space is more important when you live this small. Traditional b-n-sticks bathrooms take up way too much space & waste too much water. Thinking out of the box, there's several ways to answer the call of nature & keep yourself clean. These wise women have figured it out so they can live more in tune WITH NATURE & have more personal freedoms. Initial sacrifices turn into personal & environmental wins, think about it.

I agree. They're both tiny enough that the closet could have been a wet bath. Although the idea of a hot spring sounds wonderful, I'd still rather have my own shower and toilet.
I have to say...this is my most favorite. Simple yet complex, old yet modern, clean and open.
They live in a tiny jewel made of wood, where everything is so clean and emanates so much serenity! It's a lovely way to live! Congratulations!
More Japanese tiny houses please! There has never been a better crafted and well designed tiny house of its size, than this one. I love all aspects of this house, most of all the love and respect that went into this space by the builder. Touches my heart how the two women, in turn, love and respect their house. This is my favorite episode. These women really utilize the tiny space so efficiently that I'm in awe of their ingenuity. It's great that Japan has so many onsen that they can go to relax and bath. Also, living in an interior designed with wood feels so cozy and natural. Being able to cruise through the untouched Japanese mountainside is like a dream.

This is the most attractive tiny home I've seen so far. Most of them are functional but not elegant. No matter of course, but it's nice to have the added element of a pleasing visage. I'm referring to the outside specifically.
This tiny house is gorgeous! I don't think I could deal with sharing such a small space, but it looks absolutely wonderful.
I think that it's easier to do when you're traveling also, as you get to spend a lot more time outside of the home exploring.
Please do more videos on Tiny houses in Japan! I find Japanese design to have the most efficiency while still maintaining a nice aesthetic, keep it up!

Thank you for this wonderful, wonderful tiny house story! I lived in Japan for around 17 years so am used to living in what I thought were tiny apartments, but this is unbelievable! What better country to live in a tiny house with so many "onsen" (hotsprings) and public baths to use and enjoy!?! :-) Totally green with envy! ;-)
Like one of the women in the clip, I'm at a stage in my life where I want to simplify & downsize, so am researching tiny houses. I have health issues, so am looking to build a not-too-expensive (they seem to be getting more expensive by the day!) tiny house that is future-proofed (no bed-in-a-loft scenarios) that I could live in until i'm a really old lady! I remember seeing some photos of this home. And they just don't do it justice when you get to see all its capabilities. This TH is exceptional. It is really the ultimate example of what a tiny house should be. Thoughtful, artfully creative, multifunctional, portable. This is a Japanese Swiss army knife king of tiny houses! (Even if one added 'must haves', done right, it wouldn't need much additional space.)
