    1. Maqaam al-Bayyaat (Bayati): This is a maqaam that evokes humility and monasticism. It is the maqaam that focuses the heart and makes it ponder the verses of Allah and their meanings.
    2. Maqaam ar-Rast (Rast): Rast is Persian word meaning steadfastness. Specialists in maqaamaat prefer this maqaam when reciting verses that tell narratives or prescribe rulings.
    3. Maqaam an-Nahaawand (Nahawand): This maqaam evokes emotions of compassion and gentleness, and instils humility and reflection. Nahawand is an Iranian city after which this maqaam was named.
    4. Maqaam as-Seeka (Sikah): This maqaam is distinguished by its slow and easy pace.
    5. Maqaam as-Saba (Saba): This maqaam is very spiritual and powerful, and evokes emotions of compassion.
    6. Maqaam al-Hijaaz (Hijaz): This is a maqaam of Arabian origin, named after the Hijaz region of Arabia. It is one of the most spiritual maqaams and one of the most effective in helping one to focus in recitation of Qur’an.

I pity you. I knew about maqamat for decades and I recite Quran using maqamat melodies base on verses context and according to my mood. Because I know the maqamat, so when imam recites Quran i can detect what melody he recites. In this video, he's not so expert and he recites Soba maqam but actually it's Hijaz maqam, also the end of maqam Rast of fatihah he recites is not Rast but Kurd it's sound sentimental. Here in Malaysia maqamat teaching are so widespread. Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran and Morocco, these countries always win in international Quranic Recitation because of the widespread teaching of maqamat in these countries. But of course the maqamat comes from Maqarri' of Egypt. Egyptian qari are the standard for quranic recitation. I feel pity for muslim in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India because they cannot recite Quran beautifully because the maqamat culture are not widespread instead they're recites Quran in Hindi melody

I've noticed that people from different cultures recite Quran and call the Adhan in musical forms that emerged from their own cultures. I heard someone from Ethiopia leading salat, and to my ears, they were Ethiopian melodies. African Americans tend to use musical forms from blues and gospel.
When I call the adhan, I find myself using melodies from Italian opera.
