Switch Axe has very flexible move set. It's all about learning when to use axe mode and sword mode as well as when to morph in between. This is by no means an in depth guide. There are still plenty of other move set this weapon can offer. But with a few very quick and powerful combos in this guide, I hope it could introduce new comers into this series and this weapon quicker and make the beginning of the game more fun and easier.

Glad it helped you! Yes you are absolutely right! World had a different indicator after that axe heavy slam move. And I think it also worked differently. In World it only gives more stun damage but won't help charge amped state faster. But correct me if I am wrong.
@@nixzxin I've heard as of Sunbreak, it improves your stagger and partbreak damage, like back in Iceborne, but I'm not sure if that's confirmed.

the new morph slash combo is insane, It comes out after a wild swing and it does massive damage while building sword gauge and amped meter.

straight forward no BS love it.
If you use circle in sword mode twice before doing circle+triangle the animation for casting the discharge is much faster compared if you just hit circle+triangle without first attacking twice.

how did you recover in the air 3:37 and then bring yourself back to the target with the wirebug?
@@dw7080 he used the 'Soaring Wyvern' switch skill, by pressing L2+triangle/Y.

the circle -> triangle -> triangle combo in sword mode is extremely inefficent when you compare how much sword bar it drains to amp bar it generates. its better to do 2x circle or 3x triangle -> circle.
Yes, for power phial, heavenward flurry might get used a lot. This sword combo can still used for some quick damage when it's in amped state.
With the latest updates you can now do your Heavy Slam during the second swing (the one going left to right).
I would also say it's not worth to do a Heavy Slam unless you're using a power phial SA, which takes longer to charge.
Good point, Xeno! Yea, I agree! Seems in Rise as I get better at this weapon, I rarely need to use axe mode that often now. Thanks for pointing it out!

it's still worth it in multiplayer, since it's harder to do counter in multiplayer, tho I'll just do it as the amp buff is going to end so I can get back into amped state faster

Had no idea about doing extra damage if you attack before the soaring wyvern delay blast popped. Do you know any short combos to use after soaring wyvern that would maximise the damage of the burst?
I think all you need is a morph attack. R2 immediately after landing and then you can either reposition or go into the morph combo.
How do I get those two weapon skills ?
I play using mouse and keyboard, what is L2 (LT) in keyboard, trying to do the counter thing but couldn't find the L2 button
It's the middle mouse button by default(pressing down scroller). But you can rebind it to anything convenient for you.
@@nixzxin do you need like special skill or something to be able to do this counter attack, bc its never works on me, it alwas the dash like when using l2 + O in axe mode
@@29peueseswei35 You need to have the Switch Skill Elemental Burst Counter equipped. If you are in Sunbreak, you will get that at MR4 I think
Hey! I'm new to Swaxe. I sometime have to reload in a middle of morph combo and it's annoying. How can I smooth out the combo without reload??
Very good question! You see the little white arrow/triangle in your weapon gauge. That’s a threshold. If your sword gauge is below that threshold, when you morph to sword mode, you will do that long reload. So make sure you use axe mode to charge sword gauge over that threshold before you morph.
Additionally, equip Switch Charger switch skill. Using that will immediately charge your sword gauge over threshold. It shares the same switch slot with Elemental counter. So if you want both you will need to have them on different switch skill scrolls.
what your build for 100 percent affinity
The weapon I use in the video has 20% base affinity so it's pretty easy to reach there. But if using any weapon that has 0 affinity, we can still use latent power or agitator to make up the rest.
The set I am using is:
Almudron Helm X
Archfiend Armor Baulo
Dignified Gloves
Archfiend Armor Ura
Grand God's Peer Feet
Talisman has 2 level Critical eye and level 2 slot
From here you just need 1 Tenderizer deco, 1 Critical deco and a few Expert deco. You will already have 100 % with all skills if the weapon has base affinity. If not, the latent power from leg armour will make up additional 10%

lol. Yea it’s one of those eastern styles. Quite fits the setting of Rise.
In every SA guide i watch, No one talk about how to do in real battle.
When getting to higher rank (i am a beginner) the monster move so fast, And the SA are so slow to move around with.
Be very nice with a guide that explain what to do, And a few real fight showing it to us.
I really like SA when watching on youtube.
But i get hit / killed all the time, As i am to slow to get out of the way.
And when trying to move away, Around the target, I dont do damage.
It is the only thing that have stop me for playing it, I simple give up after i fail XX times.
Then i pick Lance, Gunlance or SnS to clear the quest 🙂
But i really want to get into the SA...

Great point. Yea I think for that, a guide that breaks down monster and show how to react with switch axe is what you after. But unfortunately each monster is different from each other. So it will require a lot of practice.

Yea, I found a little information on the web.
Something about dodge roll + morph, Not 100% about what it is ?
But first time i press jump button i sidestep , And have to press again to roll, and then morph.
Or i might misunder it.
I find that a bit hard to do all that in a sek, Wen the heat is on. ha ha
Well Axe mode help a lot doing dodge, move a bit faster around.
And have start using the skill the charge back the gauge to move away from big hits all so.
Not sure if that the way !!
All so have a hard time hitting with the switch skill "Soaring Wyvern Blade"
I try do like some guide say, holding L2 button the whole time when on the monster, And keep pressing triangle repeat, But i miss the target so many times.
I think there much be a better way to aim and hit ?
Was thinking of using "Soaring Wyvern Blade" as "dodge" out, away, and maybe hit monster if i do it correct. Can aim it back
