MHGU is definitly something special, if you have like 1000+ hours spare time
So many crazy things can happen every hunt thanks to hunter arts and hunting styles, plus the insane amount of craftable weapons most of which return from the main series and each get a final form. GU is definitely a full package
yooo, jesus himself entered the chat
Never expected two Monster Hunter Shitposters to meet like this lmao
I'm really praying for another celebratory title like this, the amounts of content and sheer atmosphere this game had were/are like no other
@@ThatRandomDude204Shitposters? More like Styleposters.

One of the best mh games hands down
2nd best in my humble opinion mh4u was amazing hands down so many good memories iconic monsters and Gogmazios hunts murdering entire teams 😄😄🔥🔥
@@kaizo2507 Yea, MH4U was it for me. So many late nights running hunts with the boys before life hit us all.
Indeed. Either this or 4U
I should have played 4u more than I did
@bluerhyno2710 i jumped on late to 4u, was new to mh, and didnt have the online experience due to poor connection. Sigh...what couldve been. I wonder what theyre going to do next
So, as crazy as it sounds, I didn't have internet for roughly 4 years, from 2015-2019, MHG kept me alive until one Christmas where my brother and sister bought me a Switch and MHGU. These games kept me sane through so much shit in life. and my favorite moment was using the Extract Hunter(?) where you launch the bug at high speed to snipe an almost dead Mizutsune right before it changed areas.
Insect Glaive, but totally agree!
Did you get to use the MHG Save Data Transfer tool to move your 3DS save to the Switch, or did you just totally restart for MHGU? If so that is mad dedication
Christ bless you man
The funny thing about that was that Extract Hunter was affected by Pierce Up ability so you could get some good damage in
4 years without internet is crazy
Ahhh MHG/U my first entry to the series and the last of its era before the new world.
did you go back to 4U? Since you're already used to old school MH you shouldn't have any trouble adapting. Also the story is the best of the series and the overall atmosphere pretty great. There's also a handful of unique fights
@@giratina6665i love 4u and iceborne
My first MH game was 4u
Honestly I'd totally play this since it doesn't seem as bad as like the first or second gen games but man some things just look really dumb and unnecessarily annoying like the fact you still CAN'T FUCKING SEE DAMAGE numbers or the fact your character is still rooted in place when healing and does the goofy flexing animation
@@shoobzy3431 there are so many old gen things that could potentially hinder your enjoyment of the game but you decided to pick the 2 most meaningless ones
I played World and Rise a shitload, but saw this was on sale so I picked it up on a whim. I’m loving it!
it is criminal to be able to get so much monster hunter content for 9.99
It takes some adjusting after playing those two games but it is a great time. I never got to enjoy most of G-Rank though cause I didn't have the grit to beat it all solo.
@@Rytom That’s for sure 😂
@@propheticrain-maker1486wdym? rise is WAYY more similar to GU than world is , i’d say getting used to GU if you’ve played rise isn’t hard at all
@@d2solo it's a complete QoL reversion for starters.
You feel a little spoiled by World/Rise going back to the older games.
Potion flex.
Camps.
Whetstones.
Pickaxes.
Inventory space.
Paint balls.
Everything controls a little stiffer and there's nothing like wirefall for a safety net.
If someone hasn't played the older games, it is a fairly large adjustment to make and that isn't a hot take.
Believe me chilled, I know EXACTLY how frustrating old MH games can be...
Rest in piece, my one and only copy of MHFU for PSP...
From a pure gameplay perspective, this is probably the best MH game, at least imo. It brought back almost all the best (and worst cough lao shan lung cough) monsters, has the best buildmaking bar absolutely NONE, and unlike 4U you’re not cursed to fight exclusively on dreadfully vertical maps. The omission of subs was pretty sad especially as they were just starting to get good but deviants more than make up for them I feel. It’s really hard to have nothing to do in this game
the game has so much content its impressive. shame tho we lost some event quests from XX. alos that nibelsnarf finish was DOPE. also one thing people need to remember about this game is. its pretty much 2 games in one.
It's got so much content because almost all of them are just reused assets.
@@NotBer its most monsters from all the games before it. its an anniversary title that celebrates everything before it. and if you wanna make that argument you could say the same about every single other monster hunter game except world really. bad argument in this franchise. actually even world reuses some assets.
@@RauschenPauli im not only talking about the monsters lol. MHGU pretty much reused almost everything (locations, stages, NPCs, etc)
that's why saying that it was so much content is disingenuous since probably 90% of it was from the older games.
@@NotBer you can still say the same about the older games. every monster hunter game reuses old content. 4th gen, 3gen. 2gen. every monster hunter does. its not disingenuous at all.
Iirc, I had a mixed set from Generations that had a couple of USJ pieces, and when I transferred my save to GU, I learned that they took USJ out (I assume licensing issues?).
The only crime GenU did was to come out so late.
By the time GenU came out, I allready burned out playing Gen & XX, because my friends & me thought it would never come out in the west.
And the "Special Permit" quests... One of Capcoms worst crime of a quest system.
Have you ever heard of egg quests?
@@JayceCH. I unironically like egg quests.
@@Smexbiegg quests were my only reason to get into monster hunter
@@JayceCH.Egg quests are 1000x easier played in Prowler mode.
@@AveryCreates all gathering quests are, really. Prowler is honestly underrated
I know technically this game had alot of monsters ported from older games with no real balance changes to them but the sheer _variety_ is one of the reasons I love this game over World.
with the absence of mh6, alot of player been seeking out to older gen.. which is good tbh
@NickReilly-iv6jg what is "old gen" though? The 3DS games are very different and missing things that make the ps2 games charming and immersive. The way I see it, old gen (1 and 2), mid gen (3 and 4) and new gen (5) are all different and have their own charm
@@elk3407 Many people use old gen to refer to old style MH. The art style and basic combat mechanics of gen 1-4 are different from those of gen 5 and supposedly later. I use new or current style to refer to 5th gen onwards and old style for anything before that
@merouln700 The art style of gen 1 and 2 is more in line with the world than it is with 3 and 4, though, with its grittier washed-out colors
@NickReilly-iv6jg4u, mhfu and world are just perfect
@NickReilly-iv6jg yep, i agree, but they dont bother me, im so attached to the game at its core
My favorite monster hunter game. Good to see it getting some love!
I need to go back to this game someday... I didn't expect to enjoy older MH but the jank is kinda charming! And the Hub Quests absolutely kick my ass, unlike in Rise where those feel like the default difficulty and village is just a tutorial.
The only jank there is is some hitboxes. People still spreading the misinformation of gameplay being jank before World is 🙄
@@JayceCH. Exactly. The only jank is being bad.
@@JayceCH. Nah, monsters fleeing to where you have to pass 2 zones to reach it, some area traversals take horribly long, being kicked to another area, gathering takes ages, small monsters despawn seconds after dying. There is a lot of jank in this game and the only reason its bearable is because its one of the most charming games to exist.
Well yes because Rise hub is scaled by the player count. GU isnt, the difficulty of the endgame hunts mainly only comes down to the 50min timer and pushes you to use max dps sets if you wish to solo things like the EX Deviants
MHGU was the perfect send off for old school monster hunter. There’s so much to do and so many monsters to fight it’s insane.
As always, have a good hunt!
It was not a send off. It's simply the last time the series was any good. Screw rise. It's trash.
@@FreezyNinjaAlt-hj1muI wouldn't say it's bad. I'd say it's too different. World already played too much like an action MMO and Rise doubled down on that. They're--or at least Rise is--still a good game. It functions and it keeps you running around and pressing buttons. It's still a fun time, but it's a lot less satisfying than what came before because the QoL features tip the scales too heavily in your favor.
@FreezyNinjaAlt-hj1mu we can agree to disagree
30 hours in MHGU? Just the tutorial bro...
As a person who only just recently picked up ultimate, and who’s exclusively only played World and Rise, let me tell you
This game is hard. But in a good way, it challenges me in ways the world and rise can’t. It also makes me value all the things that World/Rise brought to the table so much more now
One thing I do have to say about GU though was that the road to G Rank was EXHAUSTING even for MonHun standards, and not to mention the Hyper Monsters..
Hyper Monsters will require some optimal gameplay. Like getting your strongest attack in on weakpoints consistently.
Having played World and Rise beforehand, GU was on a whole other plane of existence in terms of difficulty... But I perservered and beat the damn thing, and loved every minute of it 🫡 (except for Lao Shen Long, doing that solo was the most nightmarish experience I've ever had in MH)
It because it doesn't have solo scaling. If you play it with 2 or more people like the devs intended, it's actually THE easiest monster hunter
Lao can be really challangeing for Solo players, but once you know him you can beat him without having to draw your weapon once.
@@elk3407Never heard of Bloodlust Diablos.
GU will always be a special game to me. It came along during a difficult time in my life, and was the distraction I needed to keep going. One last hurrah of all the old world's greatest hits, and a true celebration of every game leading up to it. It's the only MH game I ever totally exhausted the content in - all awards, all event quests, every weapon made, and I adored every second of it.
4U will always be a fave of mine, just from how good the story was. But it's hard to argue with GenU being the best overall, with the styles, the sheer number of monsters, etc.
4U is the best for me, still miss the guild marm everyday (since my 2ds just broke)

this almost brings a tear to my eye, the memories of playing these games with my family. it saddens me to have stumbled apon the curse of knowledge that nintendo will shut down internet access for the 3ds. i will not have the chance to play again for old times sake, with my friends online, or with my children in the far future. but like hunts, time is limited, but hunting is forever. i will never forget what the MH series has given me. i only wish i didnt take it for granted, younger me did not know that all good things did not last forever.
Well nows your chance to get it for the switch $10-20 and enjoy it all over again! Lots of new players, me included

GU was the perfect blend of old and new school mh i think that its what makes it special .Nice to see that u try diferent weapons and styles ggs.
New school where? It was the game that introduced styles...
This was the best MH game ever. I miss it so much.
I remember my first time playing mhgu, I still haven’t finished and I’ve had the game for years💀
SnS with Chaos Oil is just in a whole other league of satisfying. All of its attributes get amplified to the maximum and it's fantastic.
GU on the Switch is the definitive Old Hunter capstone game. It's almost completely invalidates everything before it, not entirely, but close. So between GUXX on the Switch, Rise, & World you're getting a decades-spanning treasure trove of amazing content.
In all my years of Monster Hunter I didn't know you could cut off basarios' tail😮
All of this was so funny and amazing! I really loved the fun you showed off with yout video of MHGU. As someone who's followed MH since the PlayStation 2 I gotta say MHGU is top 3 for me and I come back to it more often than Rise or World despite all MonHuns having their own amazing niche. I haven't laughed so hard in a while and really appreciate you sharing this slice of your time in the game.
I love Valor style GS, also while Unite gives me the most nostalgia and Tri Online made a ton of memories with the people I hunted with and talked to. GU is definitely the most fun MH game I have still played to this day.
If only the 3ds camera controls weren't a form of medieval torture
I think the reason i keep returning to GU is because it has what the newer games dont. Personality. Its less accessible nature meant you needed to actually put in some work for preparing but that was half the fun. Planning ahead and making sure you bring the right stuff to cater to a specific regions ailments, AND monster debuffs.
It actually felt like you were going to h u n t. Dont get me wrong the new QoL additions to the game is great but it also bred a kind of... Urge to just rush through the game. Imo, the whole reason people speak so fondly about older gen games is because of how taking your time to do things, just meant more opportunities to bond over what people did together.
Not talking about elitists ofc. But yeah. The charm of the older games will always have a special place in my heart.
The only game that removed the prep and made things feel rushed was Rise.. World added QoL, but didn't remove from the prep in any shape or form aside from making some things a bit more straightforward, and gathering less of a chore. Which is why a lot of veterans hold World in such high regard while brushing Rise aside almost instantly when mentioned (fuck, even Capcom treats World better)
MH elitist vets saying world has no personality when it's literally the most in depth game when it comes to ecology and locale design. Just bc it's the furthest from the MH identity the series has seen thus far, doesn't mean it doesn't have personality. In fact it implies the exact opposite, it has so much personality that you oldhead mfs hate on it for being so different.
Funny how you say forget about the elitists, yet you are one yourself. Oldhead MH fans will never fail to be contradictory and annoying asf lmao
MHGU was arguably the perfection of the old gen games and the perfect way to set that era to rest so that World could blow us away
I think you mean "so World could blow chunks"
@@NEETKittenNo.
@@AkariRosumashi World was just too easy for fans of the series from before it. I feel like it is a shame that the majority of the player base now started with world, since I have never seen a fan of the series that started before world actually praise that game. Please understand that most old-school fans of the series are seeing one of their favorite franchises get casual-ized because Capcom sees that their most casual entries are the ones that brought in the most money. That means we may never see MH like it was again. Which really sucks because MHW and Rise just doesn't feel like the MH I grew up with, and it never will again.
@@corytanksley7909 As someone who played the PSP ones when I was younger (so pretty bad at playing em) and only gotten into MH with World which made me buy GU and love both of those games, what do old fans want? Flex after potions? Or the constant loading screens between zones? Or throw a paintball which isn't anything special as I barely use the paintball and still find the monster? Or do they want the 1 frame hip checks? Do they miss the old monsters having to turn 90 degree turns? The completely useless rng use of mining picks ya know the ones were the trashy one that can either break from one hit or survive the whole trip?
@@xAvitaLT Yes, I want (most of) those things back. Because all of it, ignoring the odd bit of monster AI jank, was important to the experience. When I'm gathering items, juggling my inventory and deciding what I need right this second and what can be grabbed later, realizing I'm down to my last pickaxe and I still need 5 more ores and praying to GOD that it holds out just a little longer, that's fun. It's fun to see a new monster, make a mental checklist of everything I need to beat it, and then spend time gathering the resources I need.
The hunts are fun because of the intentional clunkiness and weight to everything. If I miss an attack, I can't press ZL/L2/whatever and just hit the undo button. I'm stuck in that attack animation and get punished for going for some greedy hits. Managing paintballs and learning a monster's movement patterns keep you engaged in the fight. Using a potion properly in the middle of the fight gives me such a big dopamine rush. I don't have any animation-canceling get out of jail free cards, so I have to find safe spots in their patterns to heal and possibly stay at a dangerous HP level for longer or else go for a risky heal that could put me in an even worse spot if I mess up the timing. Notice a pattern yet? In my examples provided, I find it fun and engaging observing the monster and planning out a strategy in real time.
All of this is *fun.* It's *fun* to prepare for a big hunt. It's *fun* to learn a monster's behaviors and different thresholds based entirely on their animations. It's *fun* to actually have to find the monster on your own. When I'm neck-deep into a fight, watching attacks, learning punish windows, managing paintballs, learning optimal healing windows, managing sharpness or ammo, all while some big angry lizard wants to kill me as hard as I want to kill it, I feel incredibly engaged. I feel *like a fucking monster hunter!* I put in all that work, I did all of that prep, I studied the monster as much as I could, and I was rewarded for my efforts with a fun fight, big pile of monster parts, and a new friend to do it all over with.
World, and especially Rise, don't give anywhere near that level of satisfaction. Since I'm no longer forced to commit to my actions, there's no sense of urgency or tension whenever I go for more risky plays that would've been a death sentence before. I don't need to go do gathering or prep work anymore because most things I would ever need on a hunt are just available from the shop. Don't gotta worry about inventory management, and the balance between enough items to get by and enough empty space to carry materials. Now, on top of materials going in a separate inventory, most of those items were either removed or turned into infinite-use items that don't take up inventory space. You don't need paintballs or even to find the monster anymore because they're on your map at all times. This isn't NEARLY as fun to me. I'm not a monster hunter, I'm not getting stuck neck-deep in a fight to the death with a powerful monster, using my wits and strategy to scrape through a win by the skin of my teeth. I'm a glorified exterminator going to clear rats out of some guy's backyard.
To give you an idea of how bad it is, I was playing Rise around 2 weeks ago. Just got to G Rank. Or MR. But it's basically the same as G Rank. I fought 2 G Rank Arzuros, and I got so bored just mashing A and countering that I fucking *dissociated* and regained awareness to their corpses. I put the game down after that.
This was my first monster hunter, got it last year and now a few days ago bought Rise + Sunbreak GU made me a fan of the series
I hope some day MHGU will release on Steam.
Just nerd HBG, and I would love to replay it for the 5th time on a new weapon tbh.
Here's a few things i like about GU:
-Ledges! Man i love those ledges, its ledges, who doesnt love it?
-Visiting 6 different place and talk to random person with yellow and red box to advanced the story is a real monster hunter experience.
-There are a lot of weapon too, and you have to craft them from low rank to g rank! With mandatory hyper material, you can fight tons of hypers with stingy rewards, grind them all! Its especially great when you play more than 2 weapons and each weapon need 5 different elements, so fun!
-chain quests is definitely very monster hunter, so many chain quests that you really care and read, some of them are the only way to unlock hypers which is great! So immersive.
-loading times, say no more, its monter hunter, something i love about, especially when visiting 6 different places to talk to lovable villagers.
-small monsters, they are definitely important part of monster hunter, apceros is my favorite because they love me so much, whenever they see me, they always ask for a hug, so sweet.
Just got into G-Rank with a friend, opened TH-cam and saw this video immediately.
Perfect
Puro,
I've had such a great time playing this game with you, I can't wait for the many more hours we'll spend in G-Rank.
I also came back to finish a few builds that I never manage to since Rise came up and god...Truly a fun game especially challenge hunts in Arena always fun to do them.
I still play it. It was made for the fans and possibly the best anthology title out of any franchise ever in the history of everything. A perfect send-off for the old design in favor of the new and while it wasn't everyone's favorite MH, the ideas are just so wild you get the feeling like they weren't going to make any more after this. Don't get me wrong; I love World and Rise and am stoked for Wilds, but this was the last entry of the MH I grew up on and I have the original PS2 MH disk in my library.
SnS uppercut is the coldest thing in monster hunter seeing you hit those back to back just makes me wanna play this game even more :sob:
Rest in peace Brave Style, I’ll never not love how insanely cool you are. The dodge sheathe and the cool new blue auras to everything, plus the crazy new movesets
God damn, Fated Four never looked so nostalgically beautiful and awe-inspiring.

GU was such a fun game. I’ve dropped so many hours into G and GU, and in the franchise as a whole.
There are no words to describe how much I love this game
First Monster Hunter game I ever played, I will never regret playing it. The variety of monsters kept me interested and I wanted to go back and hunt them again. The increasing difficulty seemed annoying at first, but it makes you a better hunter in the end and you appreciate that as well.
rare use of echoing fart meme being used for something that makes sense.

As a loafian who suffered in 4U, played through low rank caravan, and stopped in high rank till this day, I felt this. I might play MHG on 3ds soon to experience more pain
Its make me so happy to see some mhgu in 2023,the game was so good on release and its kinda clunky compares to rise but it still is my fav mh

What a wonderful thing it is, to add gold trims to an armor. Makes most armor look like royalty, easily.
Ahh yes MHGU, where the Monster Designs are viciously good, The Hunters are Superheroes, and each weapon is a weapon of mass destruction. Straight up anime protagonist
This was so fun to watch funny edits, awesome job ❤

I wish there was something like a PC port somehow.. would spark new life into the game, allowing for more streamlined multiplayer as well
Switch emulators are one thing but the struggle to setup a working one with a working copy of the game as well is so damn annoying
For Striker SnS i highly reccomend Absolute Readiness (maintain sharpness and massive i-frames), Chaos Oil (so many buffs its insane and using minds eye oil with it on will sharpen too) and then Round Force, round force gives you generous i-frames at the start of the move and its a life saver
The franchise that get even better each game that comes out
Played since monster hunter tri and learnt today that you can fish a nibelsnarf
As someone who started with world, then rise, then GU, I fucking love MHGU the most. Yea it's harder and got its jank, but it has the most variety and the hunting styles genuine change how you play. Adept charge blade op
If you play duos or more it's the easiest monster hunter ever made
With World's and Rise's massive success and widespread, I cant wait to see what Wilds has to offer
I know this is 8 months old, but here's a cool tip for Najarala at any rank. If it ever starts to circle around you, run towards its hind legs. Just as it is about to do it's major strike, the hind legs will lift up enough for you to just walk, run, or dodge under them, completely avoiding the attack. No special timing required, no specific weapon, hunter art, or style needed, just some simple knowledge of how the monster functions.
If it circles around again while you are next to the hind legs, they will trip you, but that's okay since when it is done circling that extra time, you will be right at the gap between the tail and the head, and can just run out that way.
And of course there's the third option, just stagger it. Do enough damage to its legs or face and it will flop over. But that's not exactly the most reliable method.
Ive been playing since freedom 2, and I dont think I have ever seen a basarios tail cut... I didnt even think it was possible
4U is the best classic MH(And also a surprisingly good story no one expected)
GU is the best portable MH(Even if i still question some balance decision, like Valor HBG being too strong and both Charge Blade and Gunlance being.... really bad)
MH World/Iceborne has the best enviroment visual and monster interactions(Also best Post game because Guiding Lands is actually fun)
MH Rise/Sunbreak has..... Switch Skills AKA something that REALLY should be in mainline because holy crap customizing weapon moveset freely is a amazing idea

Hunter art finisher kills are so mfing satisfying. I love launching my kinsect at mach 10 to finish a hunt. This video has forced me to play again.
This video by itself sparked my interest of playing GU again. Never had the time to put any time in general and the old style of hunts drove me away. I technically started with world even then i almost didnt try the play the series, i stumble on a video of compilation of streamers playing world and i decided to play it. Then i got a switch (mostly for pokemon) but i saw GU on sales and got it. It was hard to to understand how the old engine of MH works and skills, but i think imma put time on it finally.
Also by what i meant by "technically started with world" is cause i use to own freedom unite but it was in another language at the time didnt know, so i never got anywhere with and ended up passing it to my brother.
There are so many cool looking weapons which most dont even use...
Just came back to mhw since I farmed fatalis years ago maining bow and ocassionaly LS/DB/GS, and now trying lance on a second character on the steam deck and having a blast. Also coming back to mhgu which I left in the begining of HR, having a blast with lance too. It's insane how replayable and just fun good mh games are.
Beginning my journey in GU from Worldborne because I crave the challenge. A challenge it has delivered but I love what I'm seeing so far
There’s a video swimming around saying MHGU actually has “too much” content, and I love those vids because they seem like negative points towards the game but it just gave me more reason to play it
I remember tormenting a Yian Kut-ku to test out the other weapons (and occasionally harass the local Rath couple) and watching my high-level friend slowly but surely kill a Basarios by hitting it's back non-stop with a long sword (it kept bouncing) Good times also seeing Plesioth using the hyperspace tackle is really ptsd inducing

I'm trapped in a liminal space right now. I just picked GU up yesterday after 8 months off
