    To answer a few recurring comments: Sure, the Vault-Tec logo could have been painted by scavvers on the bomb for fun after the war. But this wouldn't explain the same logo in the same spot on a similar bomb on the opposite side of the continent (if The One is canonical).
    I do use mods in my game, but this logo does not come from any of my mods. Here is an image of how the logo appears on the bomb in a vanilla un-modded game: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/e/ee/Megatonbomb3.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20141122194823
    It is not identical to a Vault-Tec logo, but it is so similar that it can't be coincidence. Note that Vault-Tec through the games does not have consistent branding. They change fonts and logo styles often. Or, maybe the Chinese painted it on their bomb, and got the logo wrong.
    The logo on the bomb is not a USAF roundel--but even if it was, what would a USAF roundel be doing on a Chinese bomb anyway? All known USAF airplane insignia in our world either have a circle with a dot in the middle BUT no wings/lines through the sphere, or have the wings/lines but instead of the dot, have a star. There is no known UASF airplane insignia with both wings and a dot in the circle without a star. Also, the USAF roundel was never painted on bombs. It's for aircraft only. So either we believe that the USAF painted a roundel which doesn't resemble any known roundel in USAF history, not on an aircraft, but on a bomb, which they have never done before, OR, that it's the Vault-Tec logo, which it resembles.
    Here is a list of all historical USAF roundels, past and present--none of them look like the one on the bomb: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_aircraft_national_insignia
    Here is a list of world aircraft insignia, past and present. Search the page for China, and you will find a lot of stars and stripes, but none that look like our logo on the Megaton bomb: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_aircraft_insignia
    The nail in the coffin, however, is that we find a USAF roundel on the side of a crashed jet in Point Lookout. It looks like the one we're familiar with--a star in a circle with wings: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/6/62/Fo3PL_Jet_Crash_Site.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130407212410
    And the Chinese Bomber from Operation Anchorage uses a single star as insignia. Nothing like what we find on the bomb in Megaton: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/3/36/Fo3OA_Chinese_Bomber.png/revision/latest?cb=20090716130413
    Megaton was not constructed from the wreckage of the plane that was carrying the bomb in the center of the town. Manya Vargas tells us that her father and the early settlers dragged the airplane parts from a nearby ruined airport to the site of Megaton to build the town. There is no evidence that the parts came from the plane that was carrying the bomb.

      That's why I like the mistake explanation from part 1 (where Vault Tec drops bombs, but only one or two and accidentally cause everyone else to bomb each other). Under this explanation, if they miscaluclated, they might have thought they would have more time before they needed all of the vaults to be operational and assumed that the government either wouldn't know about the experiments (because too busy freaking out trying to figure out who dropped what bomb) or would approv (as you see in some of the games (e.g. new vegas), the 'democratic' united states of 2077 didn't care about the poeple's rights that much any more and many of the experiments where about creating a version of humanity that could survive the fallout/be better fighters)... The biggest fault in this, however, is that it wold be a very stupid miscalculation. Accidentally starting nuclear Armageddon has been a guine fear in humanities consciousness since it became a possibility (at least from what I have seen). That's why so many people, in the different terminal reports, seemed so surprised. It was a frightening possibility, one everyone wanted to prepare for - but no one actually thought anyone would be stupid enough to set off a bomb, given everyone knew even an accidental, one-off could end the world

    Re: the bombs ended up on American on accident.
    If an American bomber experienced mechanical failure orsustained damage from engagement with an enemy fighter ( or passing UFOs perhaps ) - and was critically damaged, but still airborne, or otherwise unable to proceed on mission - standard procedure would have been to disarm and safe the weapon before jettisoning it, and then returning to base or proceed with emergency landing. ( no one, I mean no one wants to belly land a bomber with a few hundred kilotons in the bay, especially not at a valuable airbase )
    There have been historical examples of this from our own history - a bomb was lost off the coast of North Carolina i believe -
    So the bombs being of American origin and on American soil is plausible, and given the number of bombers that would have taken off - under a small time frame, or been caught as the warheads came in - I'd argue that the likelyhood of at least two American bombers needing to ditch is very high.

      To add to your point the crater at megaton wasn’t created by just the bomb it was an entire plane that crashed. If you talk to Nathan’s wife in megaton (she was there when the town was built) she says that they created the place out of the remains of a large aircraft crashed there. My personal theory is that it was an American bomber or cargo plane the was knocked out of the sky by the EMP that nukes emit when detonated and crashed there. That would explain why it’s an American munition on American soil.

    I would not rule out accidental. It does not make sense for a Chinese aircraft to make it to DC area or Nevada for that matter. Consider the 1961 Goldsboro B-52 crash where US accidentally bombed North Carolina with two nukes. In a war situation you would want to nuke the Chinese Navy as a countermeasure. EMP from the nukes could disable or damage any aircraft which could make it drop its payload earlier than intended. This would explain why it did not detonate as it perhaps was not armed.

    You had me until about 14 minutes in. It's happened in the past, that planes in peacetime/coldwartime have been carrying nuclear bombs over american soil.
    In 1958, a Convair B-47 was engaged in a training exercise with an active nuclear bomb, which didn't have its fissile core in at the time. By accident, it was dropped on Florence, south carolina, and the charges that would've set the fissile core off destoryed a house and injured 6 people.
    Also in 1958, another B-47 collided mid-air with an F-86 fighter over the coast of Georgia during a practice exercise, and in order to save the plane and the crew, a mark 15 nuclear bomb was dropped into the atlantic, and never found.
    The bomb from megaton very well could have been carried by a plane over US soil that WASN'T bombing China, but was simply transporting it or performing a training exercise. We know the nuclear detonations downed airplanes from all the crashed airliners in Fallout 4, so it's possible, nay, likely that the Megaton bomb was dropped from a plane that dumped it while trying to avoid a crash, perhaps coming in to land at the nearby airport where all the plane parts that built Megaton were salvaged from.
    Vault-Tec could thus have manufactured the bomb this US bomber was carrying while it flew over US soil, without selling to the enemy. The plane didn't HAVE to be bombing China, or to have originated from China. There was an air force base near to megaton, after all. Very possible that the bomb came from there, and that's why it dropped while not being armed to detonate.

    • @DeaconBlues117
      @DeaconBlues117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It could also have been headed for China, and crashed due to EMP/turbulence from an explosion/crew dying of radiation poisoning. In our universe, we developed the B-2 Spirit bomber, capable of reaching anywhere on the planet in a single flight, in the 1980s. Why couldn't that America have developed similar long-range bombers by 2077?

      Its a pretty solid guess that the megaton bomb is an US one, possible from a Bomber that scrambled from Adams AFB but didn't make it far enough and was hit by emp or shockwave. The US and USSR both experimented with nuclear powered bombers in the 50's, so its likely they also existed in FO.

The Institute knew about vault 111 and they knew about shaun being there, they knew it was cryo freeze and they are scientists. The institute does a lot of experiments that are similar to vault tec experiments (FEV VIRUS) the institute is also very modern and pre war their equipment is also very modern thus meaning it is pre war and it was built by a very rich person/ company and the agreement of shaun becoming the leader of the institute could possibly be written within the documents that the player never gets to read

I think things hadn’t been as good as they let on. Plus if they’re building them and partnering with government agencies and other organizations for these studies they’ll have no data if they don’t at least scare people into the vaults. A “false alarm” or a few detonations scare everyone into vaults, “sorry we can’t open them they’re on a timed release” studies go on, data is gained and the people in the vault don’t know the world didn’t end. The way corporations are coloured in the fallout universe makes this totally believable. I wonder if it isn’t awfully coincidental that the morning quantum hits stores a missile of unknown origin starts the end of the world. What if it was a dud set of by nuka-cola just to garner rapid attention for their new soft drink, they just didn’t realize the reaction that would cause. Who knows maybe we will never find out....

    There is another possibility. Those bombs had to be transported from place to place. We also know that after the bombs dropped EMP disabled a lot of technology, including planes in flight. It's possible that an ammunition transport failed in flight resulting in the Megaton (and nevada) bomb being on the ground. Indeed, in real life there have been a number of cases where transporting a nuclear bomb has nearly gone bad. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_nuclear_accidents

      An emp may not have taken out the plane but the force of the explosion maybe have been more than enough to knock a plane out of the sky. It may have also dislodged the bomb from its holding bay. The early nuclear bombs were not set to explode until after they arrived in the area of attack to prevent it exploding should a plane crash. That would explain why those bombs didn’t go off when the hit the ground

    I personally think it was what later became the Enclave that caused the great war. They probably knew with all the think tanks they had that the world's resources would deplete themselves within a century if they didn't start from square one. Sure Chinese subs (including the one in Boston harbor) launched theirs too, but there was something far more sinister going on. I really think we struck first and partially on our own homeland

  • @shawnwolf5961
    @shawnwolf5961 6 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    Edit: I also have a theory about the vault tec logo. I'll add it in after my original post, see below.
    I've thought China shot first since Fallout 2. Nothing in any FO game, as of yet. has changed my mind on that.
    As for Vault Tec launching first, it just fails to make sense for me. They have far more to gain in a world fearing nuclear disaster than an apocalypse.
    And trying to cause an apocalypse just for studies and experiments? Who do they turn in their results to? What do they do with their data?
    As for the all clear, there are a couple of possibilities. It could be an automated all clear set to be sent at x number of years. It could also be the Enclave, we know from FO2 and 3 that the Enclave had the access to communicate with the vaults.
    As for the Vault Tec logo being on the bomb, well. First, your idea about them selling materials to foreign nations is pretty solid. We've seen examples of this before, even during times of war.
    But there is another, less sinister but no less disturbing, idea. We KNOW China had spies. It would be easy for them to pose as American companies in need of steel or other supplies. Chinese spies buys the materials, starts constructing SOME bombs on the mainland US, where it may be harder to hit from China-the deep interior of the US, for example. One of the reasons China would want Alaska would be easier access to the mainland, after all. And fuel resources were scarce.
    So maybe Chinese spies on the mainland US bought materials from Vault Tec, masquerading as American companies, to build a few nukes within US soil.

      They didn't launch the nukes first, because it would go against their ultimate goal. Vault-Tec was a part of the Enclave, along with several hundred important business tycoon and political leaders from the U.S.; and they were all supposed to hop on a ship and leave Earth to colonize other planets.
      That's what all the data is for. To figure out what would happen in the event of any accident or condition present in space. They couldn't have launched the bomb, for they never finished their ships to high-tail it once everything went to shit.

      Interesting theory, and not without merit. There's even historical precedent for attacking bombers missing their target by miles, as was the case when Londont cut it's own power to make it less visible during WWII. The entrances to the vaults almost all hid themselves somehow, so aircraft wouldn't really be able to target them visually.

    Vault-Tec could have made weapons and sold them, the simple fact is they make so much else under their side companies that its the most likely reason for the Vault Tech symbol on the bomb. Also there are many mentions of Vault-Tec doing weapons research and even hints to them making weapons. Then again that logo has 2 lines each side not 3 so does differ from Vault Tec's logo so its likely just another logo or maybe the spot the bomber magneticaly holds the bomb (so as not to trigger in flight by attaching the magnet to the wrong section) As I dont see a hook point for a crane to lift the bomb into the plane as is typical with heavy bombs like the Nukes you mention.

  • @meganh2

    This discussion reminds me of the silo series by Hugh Howey. The gist of that series was some wealthy politician tricked a bunch of people into taking shelter in the vaults he built to escape an apocalypse he manufactured. He has the separate vaults monitored and destroys the ones that don’t meet his expectations. It’s been a long time since I read it but I think his goal was to eventually repopulate the world with the one “best” vault. It doesn’t work out for him. His headquarters gets destroyed and people from a couple vaults he meant to destroy escape to freedom all none-the-wiser to that politician and his goal.
    That may as well be the story of vault-tec as far as I’m concerned. They triggered the apocalypse so they could run their experiments. Those experiments somehow factored into some ultimate goal vault-tec had. They expected to be around to monitor the vaults and ultimately enjoy the fruition of their work. Something went wrong and whoever was running vault-Tec got their comeuppance, leaving their experiments to run amok.

If that’s the case, it would make sense for them to start the war. The US was rioting at the time and dissent was rampant. They kill off the Chinese, kill off the rioting us, they get to live, and they get to rule unobstructed with a new government where they get to rule and get to make the rules, and no one ties their hands. So Oxhorn, I'm genuinely shocked you didn't talk about the Enclave in this video. We already know the upper echelons of vault tec we're controlled by the Enclave pre war and all but flat out told the whole reason the vault experiments even happened was because the Enclave wanted to study people living in seclusion and integrating with the post nuked world so that they better understood that for themselves.
    Given all that, I think the Enclave is by far the most likely cause of the great war. They entire goal was to rebuild and control a 'cleansed' world so it makes sense they aimed their bombs at everyone. They would use companies they control to make weapons, like vault tec and poseiden energy, and those logos would then be used, since the Enclave was still a secret illuminati of government officials and connected corporate big wigs.

  • @MyNameIsCornholio
    @MyNameIsCornholio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One explanation for the bomb being on American soil is that if you talk to one of the older megaton citizens the crater was not created by the bomb but the plane carrying it when it crashed. The settlement is built out of the parts of that very aircraft so it was likely an American plane that was knocked from the sky by the Emps from the nukes. Seeing as nuclear munitions are quite common it’s not a stretch to assume that bombers like that or possibly a large cargo plane would be carrying a nuclear warhead so they could be at the ready and simply crashed there. That could explain why a bomb stamped with vault tecs logo was on American soil.

    Megaton is made out of the bomber that the bomb was in. Is it possible that the plane was damaged by the EMPs and crashed but in the process accidentally dropping it's last bomb that landed nearby and failed to detonate? It could have been an accident, I don't know of any areas nearby where you would find parts of a bomber unless it was the same plane.

    The accidental drop is more plausible than you might think, in our real world the US did indeed accidentaly drop a nuke on the US (somewhere in the south I beleive), it didn't detonate obviously and thankfully. Still accidentally dropping a nuke from a plane has real world precedent.
