This is a brilliant film. A lot of people do not see how relavent this movie was in the 80s. People dressed well to travel by airplane. Fathers and sons had tension defused by mom. Children did not understand that boring dad had fought in WW2, Korea, Vietnam. This is a good movie if you disengage your mouth and engage your brain.
@@bigdeal6852 My favorite served during Korea in the AF. My parents were children during the depression. They were loving, but tough. I learned more from them than I can remember, sadly.

Fantastic movie. Gene Hackman is a great actor! Spies are obligated to break the rules, and he plays it perfectly. This movie is among my list of favorites.
What are your favourite films? (Mine are: *Ghostbusters, Alien, Vanilla Sky, loadsa thrillers including Jagged Edge, and the one where Goldie Hawn wanders around in a miniskirt, with Mel Gibson maybe somewhere ... and many films of '40s and '50s* ...)
Hachman's ambiguous body language and sudden change to "you don't want to mess with me" look always adds to the plot twist. Great acting, he was in a film as a guy who set listening bugs and got to hear something he shouldn't, I forget the name but it was a tense film. Check out ' Quiller Memorandum ' 1966 with George Segal, Alec Guinnes and Max von Sydow. 'The Black Windmill' with Michael Caine "The Fourth Protocol ' With Pierce Bronsnan, both good Cold war films. 'Fear is the Key ' with Barry Newman if you like a bit of Alistair MacLean with a spectacular car chase across the everglades and a plot twist that is well hidden. Enjoy good cold war spy film. I was in Berlin a few years after this film and it is a fascinating place with contrast between East and West. I preferred East.
The bugging film you mention I think was called ‘The Conversation’. Very good. Also he was a great bad guy in ‘Unforgiven’, with Clint. He’s the thinking man’s villain.
Not a bad effort, mostly courtesy of Hackman. The bit about the lad going to Europe to help find his mom who's been abducted by kidnappers, then suddenly changing tack to chase bit of totty strains plot credibility a tad though. \Many thanks for sharing...
I’m the first. I have to admit that it’s not the first time I watched this move. Likely the 4th. It’s a good storyline that is sometimes heartfelt movie that is worth the watch. Suggestion - think about the actors when this movie was filmed and think about the variety of movies they’ve been in to now. Remarkable.
Good movie. the haters in the comments must of been born after this movie was made, too young and stupid to understand the movie. They cant handle a movie with no superheroes and a real plot.
Chris, your dad's not lying to you, they just can't talk about it. My mom's friend was cia, we learned this once she was retired and very old. Not just newly retired.
Seriously I only came across this on TH-cam, absolutely brilliant, I'm no film buff whatever, but I hope this is a compliment, but it just has that, Comic book, superhero feel to it 👍👍👍👍 brilliant
This was how a ''modern'' spy film was made back in the 80's. We didn't have cell phones, no computers or internet. Nobody was so well connected that we all knew who the other guy was before he sat down.
Your kid finds out dad used to be in the CIA yer in a foreign country trying to find yer kidnapped mom How come s t like this never happened with the Brady bunch😅
Love Hackman, Dillon was rough here and some of the dialogue was terrible. I always liked the concept of this one though: the kid who thinks his Dad is a square and then finds out he was a top level spy.
He's always been a bad actor. Just ignore him and move on. Some people become actors on talent and some people like Ryan Phillipe and Matt Dillon become actors for their looks and couldn't act their way out of a paper bag.
Why ? What was their occupation to have all these ....... 💭 Luxuries , luxurious house n stuff , eccept the cars , no limousine drivers , no butlers, etc... What was their occupation?
Really, Gene not acting too well, or even the part of anyone you could believe was in the CIA. Maybe because him and Matt had some bad chemistry, I just don't know, but Matt's character is off as well like they did not know how to make the script believable. But I still like the movie. It should have been produced much better.Way way better.
I realize its acting but when she called him sexy with that hair n her looks come on really Hoosiers on the other hand was realistic enough why it was a true story😅
I did not want the way the son kept on defying his father. But the overall movie was indeed very good for me. It was very realistic, the son was just overacting at times.
Great movie. With Gene Jackman in it, a movie cannot be dull. Top class, as it always is.
God bless whosoever has uploaded this movie. Thanks again. Gene Hackman at his best

Brilliant!!! Thank you for posting this film. In my opinion, Gene Hackman is/was one of a kind.
Agree, he is a one off. Explosive on screen. Bat 21 is up on youtube 😉
He's the Man. Popye Doyle was brilliant

One of the best ever ! 👍
@@JimmyTAYLOR-o4hfor those of you who do not know Popeye Doyle, watch the movie the French connection.😊

Great movie. Haven't seen it before and I'm glad for that so that I could enjoy it now and here !!
Saw it years ago but I didn't remember the sequences. Hence thoroughly enoyable

This was a fantastic movie! I've never seen it, both Gene Hackman and Matt Dillon were great!
i always said Gene Hackman would be both the best dad in the world and scariest dad in the world
A good movie...i dont know why ppl.are dissing it...closer to the end it really is entertaining.
Hollywood couldn't make a movie this good today if their lives depended on it.
1961 - 98 seems to really be a very special time for movies, with my personal favourites being made in in the 70s , early 80s.

Gayle Hunnicut, Gene Hackman and Matt Dillon made it worth it😎
Good Movie. Hacan is one of my favorite actors.😊
Very Good Movie,, Gean Hackman,, always Good in Movies,,, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great action movie Gene Hackman at his best fast paced holds up well for its age better than some of the modern stuff of today
A dumb american movie with no clue what happens in europe
Thank you
Are you here for business of pleasure? FUNERAL😂😂.
Gene Hackman = Liam Neeson of the 80's.
I a way, yes😮😂😅😂😂
And it was Clint Eastwood in the 90s (Absolute Power, In The Line Of Fire, ...)
Very good flick from the 80s. Yes, perfect !! Thank you for the upload. Gene Hackman & Matt Dillon.

A truly great movie.

👎👎Target-1985...Gene Hackman was 57 for like 35 years.
The boy was so loud, always talking loudly. He came in clutch tackling his father as he was about to be shot.

Feels more like a spy movie parody with some suspense than the real thing
I enjoyed the car stunts set in Hamburg... but much of the movie is pointless.
All movies are.
Matt Dillon's script is dreadful. Unless the writer knew that the generation following would be total twits. So, if that's the case, it's spot on.
Too young and beautiful to be a mother.
She has lost her bracelet and of course she would not look in her jewelry box first ! Very dumb !m
