The Israel plane passed through Mombasa very low to the sea headed to Uganda. They refuelled in Kenya moments after rescuing their hostages on their way back home. People who witnessed it Said the plane was just flying close on land. President Kenyatta had close ties with Israel at that time. Which means he allowed them to pass through the territory. Then they flew very low on lake Victoria and emerged up to land in Entebbe. It was a swift calculated mission. The very fact that this entire movie was shot on an active military base made it that much more real , with the directors having to shoot under military camp conditions , made it so much more real . No real scope for unreal special effects . One of the finest rescues ever
Benny Peled continued to be proud of the precision of Israeli operations and their audacity. A friend of mine was a friend of his and invited to meet him for coffee one morning. CNN was on the TV at the Cafe, and Benny was saying something about Americans having neither precision nor audacity, as he looked down at his watch and began counting down. He looked up at zero, and said to my friend Vendyl, that operation Opera has now just struck the nuclear reactor in Iraq, and at that moment CNN broke straight to the story. Benny was in on that one too.
Each time I watch this movie, it reminds of my country Nigeria where people seek political office without taking decisions that affect the lives of people positively. Even the opposition leader threw his support at the decision. However, I must commend the then Israeli leader who took responsibility and authorize the operation even before bringing it to the round table.
I remember watching this as a 13 year old. The Jewish people have always been picked on but yet, they endure. God has His hand on them. I visited Israel a couple years later and the Jewish people are close to my heart.
As a Belgian citizen I'm lucky to have met retired major general Doron Almog who was involved in the rescue of his fellow citizens. It was in Antwerp, where he came to ask support for his beautiful project Aleh-Negev Nahalat Eran. What an immense loving father and patriot!
That's the literal meaning of the word Zionist. Patriot of his country (for Israeli born). It does not mean one that endures the government. Not someone in favor or against Muslims or Jewish, Arabs or any other idea. Just being a patriot.
A Great movie and true to fact according to my father as he is a former Israeli paratrooper that was in the raid of Entebbe mission back in 1976 to free the hostages i am happy to say he survived as he was in the attack where the hostages was held he was highly decorated for his involvement by my country....LONG LIVE ISRAEL... תחי ישראל...Shalom

Even though this is a movie they have portrayed in such a way it happened in reality. Absolute thriller movie. I'm thinking how the Israel army would have fought with the hijackers and the Ugandan army in reality. Last 20 minutes is an absolute thriller. Fantastic movie God bless Israel ❤❤❤
I enjoyed this movie as much as I enjoyed Victory at Entebbe many years ago. Many hijackings by terrorists were taking place back in the 70s.This was quite an authentic account of what took place during the whole hijacking fiasco.I enjoyed the comaraderie amongst the Israeli soldiers on the rescue plane on the way to Uganda, especially when they started singing in Hebrew in such a passionate way.Of course Charles Bronson being an American was the one out of place and just smiled foolishly while the others sang.Good cast and well acted. Thanks for screening.❤
I forgot about Victory at Entebbe. Another great film too.👍🏼 Thanks for the reminder. Plus, I highly recommend the books too. But nothing recent that can be very antisemitic. Get the older books written when these events were happening (and people were still capable of independent thought). 🤨
I watched Victory at Entebbe the first time it was on TV, I think I would have been about 14 at the time. I remember the rescue scene was one of the most violent and bloody scenes I'd ever seen on TV, not at all like typical cops and robbers TV shootouts. But it brought home the grim reality of it, especially when one of the hostages - in the show he was a teenage boy, but I'm not sure if that was accurate - was also killed when he panicked, stood up, and commandos mistook him for one of the terrorists.
really can't control the tears in the climax.....,. because of Captain Jonathan Netanyagu....... whole Israelites should thankful until end of the world to Netanyagu family.......😢😢😢😢😢😢

A well made account of this event . I think Yonni Netanyahu was actually killed earlier in the raid , but the whole story was well acted , including all the stress within the Israeli government . An outstanding effort by the I.D.F. , and probably the finest hostage rescue in history .
@canturgan That might have been a good Op but it doesn't compare to this, on any level. 1. Hostage being held in another country altogether, and an hostile one at that. 2. Happening at a great distance from your territory. Having to evade detection by hostile forces across the trip. 3. Larger number of opponents including a OpForce of regular military with armed aircraft.

This is the third time I have watched this movie over the years. Each time is just as exciting and sad as the last. I am sorry to read that Peter Finch died after his great performance as is usual, after the release of the movie. May he RIP.
This is cinematic art at a high level. Acting, music, lady director Carol Reed's touch, buildup, suspense all good. Yaphet Kotto as Amin, superb performance. 🎉
True, but Forrest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland truly shows Amin in the tertiary stage of syphilis was insane beyond psychotic. Watch that if you haven't, the true story of the Scottish doctor who was treating him, barely escaped Uganda with his life. And sanity.
I remember this act of terrorism as a kid in the 1970s. I always recalled it as Victory at Entebbe. Anyway, I clearly recall this in the news, and how the operation to free the passengers was a success. Peter Finch was a great actor too. 👍🏻
I, a Danish citizen, was 23 in the summer of 1976 and I vividly recall this TV-movie and the role of Charles Bronson, one of my all time favorite actors, and I think this was the first time that I discovered James Woods. What a great opportunity to watch it again. Thanks, LionHeart FilmWorks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's brother, Yoni, led the unit that rescued the hostages. He was killed during the operation. Netanyahu describes the rescue in detail in his autobiography, "Bibi, My Story". Very, very brave men.
Incorrect. Yoni was killed by a Ugandan soldier who was in the control tower while Yoni was conducting last minutes sweep. The terrorists were long dead by then.
I was in South Africa at the time of the event. The front page of the broadsheet newspaper in Durban (Natal) had just three words in a HUGE font. "Entebbe Raid ...." forgotten the last one. The entire country, black, white and coloured spent that entire day going about their business with a huge smile on their face. Everyone knew how Idi Amin had murdered an estimated half a million of his own people. It was a truly transforming day for much of Africa, and South Africa in particular. Such a pity that, today, South Africa and most of the surrounding states to the North and East are AGAIN in a state of barely contained chaos.
This is a great movie. I remember watching it as a kid and being impressed and I have watched it several times since and it holds up. A really well put together version with a great cast.
Yes for its time it was a very good movie except for one thing. They are basically at the equator so no breath should be showed but a minor thing I know and still a good and accurate movie.
I remember this hijacking, I was living in Israel as a 10 year old. We were all standing around the radio and television listening in shock. THEN we woke up one day to the news of the mission and we were so proud as if we flew the plane ourselves. and then they made two movies about it.
I was ten years old when I saw the movie in 1978. I was amazed by the action, planning and execution of the mission. This movie help start my interest in the military (Me joining the Army) history, and world event. A great cast also and Martin Balsem played a similar role in the movie " The Delta Force"

Even less. Within six months of the Entebbe rescue, at least two movies were released. Not sure about when the Israeli one opened. But I saw the one with Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Elizabeth Taylor among others in the cinema in the winter of 1976-77. This one is my favourite, though.

I remember growing up in the '70s the Palestinians were hijacking planes left and right they hijacked four different airplanes in one day I remember, then a week later they hijacked another one. These people have been causing problems for a long time!
It's not the people of Palestine that cause problems. It's the various "governments" and socio-economic, regional issues. Also, humans have been beating up on each other since the dawn of time. Fortunately, there's always a segment of society that counters.
@mc-lb9dk only terrorists in the real event were the muslims that took innocent people as hostages like the cowards that they are. They want to remove Christians and jews from the planet. Their own words. Israel just wants peace, but the muslims don't.

So true. Like later in time when 4 Israeli Jets flew in such a tight formation their radar image looked like an airliner and suddenly took out a Syrian nuke facility.
@@bobporch In the attrition war in the late 60's what looked on radar 2 IAF fighter jets were facing 10 Soviet jets in support of Egypt over the Suez canal. The Soviets were sure to have an easy kill when suddenly more IAF jets appeared from behind the first 2. Knowing the combat skill of the Israeli pilots the Soviets then turned around and ran away back into Egypt.
Charles Bronson was a major box office star at the time of the release on television and the director Irvin Kershner was a first-rank movie director. I always like to believe that Bronson agreed to do the movie for two reasons---One, the subject matter was straight up his taciturn, yet efficient, heroic characterization alley, and Two, Kershner always had a knack of making outsized cinematic spectacle seem nuanced and intimate (Exhibits One and Two---- the Star Wars series' best movie 'The Empire Strikes Back' and Sean Connery's James Bond return 'Never Say Never Again'), which appealed to Bronson's essential no-fuss bad-ass screen persona.
A great story and rescue! However the first thing that caught my attention was large comfortable seats on the plane, with plenty of legroom no.less. This was a true story. No one that has flown recently will believe that was the inside of a real airplane.
I am always impressed at the Israeli tenacity of their fighting spirit. Even now as I write they are winning a conflict against 3 terrorist groups. Theirs is a Nation that has endured for thousands of years. Even was reborn in 1948. Awesome!
I believe Israel has God's protection over them. I don't care if anyone thinks my statement might sound ridiculous. The kind of challenges, and difficulties they have overcome have been nothing short of miraculous.
Yes a very sad outcome but I think he went out clean in mind, doing what he was trained and eager to do, saving the innocent from rabid maniacs, yup, I think Yoni went out exactly how he would have wanted.

Years after THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN - CHARLES BRONSON and HORST BUCHHOLZ back together in a great movie !!!!!
I was 13 when this happened. I first heard of this movie in a Bible study a couple of decades ago and am glad to finally view it. Thank you for uploading.
The very fact that this entire movie was shot on an active military base made it that much more real , with the directors having to shoot under military camp conditions , made it so much more real . No real scope for unreal special effects . One of the finest rescues ever
Thanks for uploading this historic movie MUST WATCH 👍
This operation was a Masterstroke.
Genius
It was very brave and selfless gesture by the captain and the crew of Air France for staying back even after being released
This movie needs to be made again in 2020s with good graphics
Just don't let Hollywood do it.
@@brianpaton6687 why
Hollywood is actually pro israel and a big reason why israel is very popular in u.s
It was…”7 Days in Entebbe”, with Rosamond Pike, and Daniel Bruhl
It was and it wasn’t great, in my opinion.
Movies from long ago required us to critically think and analyze. We didn't need glorified and gratuitous graphics for us to absorb the story.
You should have visited the Palestinian people in Gaza enduring the siege by apartheid, Zionist Israel. You'd have a different opinion of Israel then.
As a Belgian citizen I'm lucky to have met retired major general Doron Almog who was involved in the rescue of his fellow citizens. It was in Antwerp, where he came to ask support for his beautiful project Aleh-Negev Nahalat Eran. What an immense loving father and patriot!
I'll go
Lovely!
That's the literal meaning of the word Zionist. Patriot of his country (for Israeli born). It does not mean one that endures the government. Not someone in favor or against Muslims or Jewish, Arabs or any other idea. Just being a patriot.
😅
Wow, such a great historical movie.... Few can hold interest for 3 hours, Thank you....

This is an absolutely incredible operation.
Thank for this movie. The World has never forgotten.
Saw this movie when I was 15 on TV. Then became big fan of Bronson.
Death Wish series, Family of cops and many more wonders.
@Laura-Lee You welcome.Yes the books will also be quite informative, especially in parts where the movie might lack some important details.
RIP Yonni. Now his brother is struggling with a bigger one.
True. God bless Israel 🙏🇮🇱🇵🇭💖
A movie she be done bout that too

What a great rescue.

I remember when this happened, and watching this movie on TV years later. Israelis really take care of their own. It's Incredible what the IDF pulled off.
I SALUTE THE IDF.
It was. They way they took on and wasted those terrorists was superb.
Maybe they are compensating for something.
@@nkristianschmidt Maybe they are more determined after being falsely accused and persecuted so much! They understand how important and valuable each Jewish life is, after so much torture, Pogroms and murder of many Millions of Jewish people.
Israel is the ONLY safe place for Jews on the face of the earth, & the IDF knows that the safety and continuation of the Jewish people depends upon them. This is a heavy and serious burden, carried by mostly 18 - 22 year olds. But they know the lives of their sisters & brothers, mothers, fathers and neighbors depend upon their excellent, conscientious, high quality work! 💙🙏🏽💙🇮🇱💪🏽🕊🌅
I remember as well
A well made account of this event . I think Yonni Netanyahu was actually killed earlier in the raid , but the whole story was well acted , including all the stress within the Israeli government . An outstanding effort by the I.D.F. , and probably the finest hostage rescue in history .
It was sad that Yoni was killed.
Yoni is the brother of today's Israeli PM Benjamin Natanyahu. Both are brave commandos.
The Iranian Embassy siege in London is up there. All hostages were freed, all but one of the gunmen killed. He went to prison. It made the SAS famous.
@@paiman1976, SAS operation in Sierra Leone. SAS and Paratroopers. they got all the hostages out alive. The rescue teams had to fly out from the UK to West Africa!
The great character actor, Yaphet Kotto, did a brilliant job as the despicable Idi Amin...He brought out the deceitfulness and distrust of others that made up part of Amin's psyche...When I read anything of Amin's despotic career, Kotto's image in this portrayal always springs to mind...RIP to Yaphet Kotto...
Yaphett Koto was an excellent versatile actor. He was Parker in the movie, Alien, 1979, and a drug lord in the 1973 James Bond movie, Live and Let Die.

The deployment and takeoff scenes of the IDF soldiers at the beginning of Operation Thunderbolt were , I felt , extremely well enacted . This must be the most brilliant of hostage rescues ever - and that's saying a lot . Psalm 91 comes to mind , at least for me .
What's your opinion of June 8, 1967 ?
For Oct 7, 2023: Psalm 83 comes to mind, unfortunately,
This is the third time I have watched this movie over the years. Each time is just as exciting and sad as the last. I am sorry to read that Peter Finch died after his great performance as is usual, after the release of the movie. May he RIP.
Excellent movie great inspiring for generation to come . Very well made and directed. Shalom from Bharat / India 🇮🇳
This is cinematic art at a high level. Acting, music, lady director Carol Reed's touch, buildup, suspense all good. Yaphet Kotto as Amin, superb performance. 🎉
Carol Reed was a great movie director.
Also, she IS a he. Not a woman.
Amin was insane. A real monster.
It's cinematic propaganda at a high level
@@tubthumpNot you & your Antisemitic 🤥propaganda again! 🙄

Israel kick arse.
Great account of this most daring of rescues!
You must be Jewish
Watched it in the cinema in 70s.

There is no justification for terrorism. It is the way of the cowardly. Praise be to the LORD for the saving of lives.

One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter!
Yep!!! The problem is the justifications always come with “faith”. Your asking people to separate faith from human frailty. That isn’t an easy thing!!!

I remember when this raid happened. We all cheered the Israelis and their refusal to negotiate. I remember that the feeling in South Africa at the time was"This is the beginning of the end for untrammeled international terrorism." We were right about this; terrorism is still with us, but in no way like what it was at that time.
hmmm, still going on with much higher stakes, after Oct. 7 massacre
So, 9/11 didn’t happen then?
Yaphet Kotto made A Great Idi Amin. He was A Brilliant Actor, who played the Role as Both Comical And Frightening. With No Disrespect, He Played The Role Better Than Forrest Whitaker, in The Last King Of Scotland.
This is damn good for a TV special! Hell of a cast too!! They made it pretty quickly too considering it happened just a year before it aired.
