Gordon Kahl is man who feels that the U.S. government doesn't care about the American farmer, so he retaliates by not paying taxes. He would be sent to prison and upon being released, his views have not changed. He encourages anyone who is having trouble not to pay taxes. He also joins a paramilitary and a white supremacy group. When the FBI learns of this, they try to arrest Kahl but Kahl, armed, doesn't want to go, and when the Feds don't let him go, he kills most of them. He then goes on the run and it's up to the FBI agent to headed the operation to find Kahl, and anyone else who may have been involved.

Steiger never disappoints . The unrelenting poverty and grimness of the the area would drive one to desperation . All the more realistic since based on facts .
I could understand retaliation against Federal property but murdering humans for a cause is despicable.
I liked it when the waitress told the FBI agent she knew who Gordon Kahl was she personally served him at the corner table and Elvis Presley was sitting right beside him.😅😂🤣
Rob Steiger is a brilliant actor. These things happened & it is worse today. Good film. Hope America will wake tf up!

Loved Rod Steiger, saw him in the PAWN BROKER when I was young, followed him in all his films, Great Actor.
For me he is still the ultimate Napoleon.
It was across the bridge that started it all for me.
Steiner was unrecognizable to me in the pawn broker after only seeing him in Heat of the night. Best actor that ever lived

How relevant the theme of this movie is in the current day and age is unbelievable. I do not agree to what Gordon did, but I do understand it. We have a very similar situation in all of the western worlds where governments are doing their utmost to aggrevate the local people! And this may very well end like the scenario in this movie!

My property taxes are ruining what’s left of my life. The minimum SS and thats it. I own this really old doublewide on 2 acres and it’s perfect for my needs because I care for a variety of critters. Mainly I live off food bank food and supplements so that part of my life is no fun anymore except maybe the challenge of it. When your life evolves and you get pushed out of the loop it’s just sort of degrading…unless you can learn not to care anymore. No wonder the old and dying are just pretty much ready to meet their maker and say good bye to the lost dreams and struggle
The people should be ashamed to do this to seniors. Same here in Britain the old working class are fucked by the government and their own so called family as well.
It wasn’t the seniors the government did this to. It was over taxation to the American farmers. Of all ages. Bad weather for years and poor crop prices cost thousands of farmers their homes and land they had for generations. The government still wanted their property taxes. I was alive to see this. I come from a cattle ranch and watched neighbors lose everything

A great movie. I missed it in the nineties. What a direction n what a performance by the lead roler. Rod steiger is par excellence.
We in India have a very bad films. Especially bollywood n tollywood. Except love stories there is nothing to boast.

The FBI Murders was a sad one, but it was one of the best in the line of duties I have ever seen.
The ending is poetic licence. Kahl was actually shot in the head and killed simultaneously as he seriously wounded a deputy.
My favorite actor!,….Rod steiger is always brilliant!
I was a LEO at that time, that's not how it went down. Kahl was cornered in a shed or barn of some kind. He shot an Arkansaw LEO, the bullet entered between the flaps of
his vest and killed him. Kahl was eventually shot and killed.
Weird i think there was a small part cut out when he leaves prison at the beginning. He said something very racist towards the black guy escorting him out... i vaguely remember that.

This movie was a great movie and rod. Stagger did a great job but it proves once again how the authorities overdo. It sometimes like they didn't Waco and like apparently did it here. Grand standing seems to be the strategy and it might be a good strategy to let people know. Not the figure around with the government period
But it's a waste of resources that could be used for other things and still get the perpetrators that you're concerned about. As jimmy dranny used to say everybody wants to get in the act. During the Biden administration, the average American citizen no longer trust the c. Gordon Kahl went out this world a HERO, he vowed that the federal authorities will never send him back to prison nor take him alive.
I'm only 5 minutes in and this film has some of the thinnest characters and some of the worst acting I've ever seen. I'm hooked!
