    This was another interesting video to edit...making me smile and bringing tears to my eyes all over again as I relived this very memorable stretch of river that I paddled almost 2 years ago now. I'd like to go back and experience it in a different head space. I'm going to take a break from editing this series for a while, but I will be picking it back up again after my winter 2023 expedition - don't be surprised to see some other videos popping up - I got a new canoe and I want to share some of my recent trips in it with you!

    Hi Amy, what an inspiring video footage. I really appreciated you sharing your ups and downs as it makes it so much more real and human. Very educational also and helps with the planning for my trip. Thanks heaps.

      Thanks Anja. As hard as it was to pull the camera out at those low moments I knew it would tell the story more fully and give anyone watching a better understanding of what it's really like to do this trip. There are so many amazing moments you could easily fill a few hours telling those good-news stories and give the impression that it's all rainbows and unicorns, but the hard moments are what makes this journey so memorable and helps us grow in the end.

    Just the best. It's how I would expect an adventure like this to be .with all the ups and downs. Good on you, Amy. I'm quite jealous as I've been trying to do a similar trip but in a power boat (which will kill the tranquillity, I know ) for some time now. The film you've put together is very good. Congratulations.

    As difficult as it must have been at the time with not just the drone incident but also all the other bits that had been creeping up on you to that point, what a treat you had waiting downstream for you with that riverside cabin in Echuca. What a perfect spot to pull in for a few days and have a chance to rest and regroup! Looks as though that came at the perfect time. Those autumn colours along that section of the river are spectacular too.
    Was also great to see all those bits of gear in your kit that I've now seen going in and out of the canoe first-hand! And people, it's all ultralight I'll have you know. 😉

    • @AmyOutdoors
      @AmyOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤣 yep, totally all ultralight gear! Thanks again for an excellent Glenelg River paddle last week mate, I'm already getting itchy feet to get back out there! Editing the video has been fun too... lots of laughs to re-live.
      That cabin in Echuca Moama was a god-send, for sure!

    You don't have to clarify anything! It is certainly ok to feel down and defeated but am positive you continued your journey, I am sure of it! lol Lack of sleep is so hard on the body and plays havoc with emotions as well. Hope you had a good break that rested your body as well as your soul! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing the new canoe! :) :) P.S. The drone would have frustrated the heck out of me! The thought of knowing it was there but not being able to reach it, grrrr!!!! :( I also love that you film it all. The good and the bad, just keeping it real!

    Fabulous video Amy. Thanks so much for showing the lows as well as the highs. I can certainly understand the frustrations you went through on that particular stretch of the river, trying to find a camp that was suitable. It’s such a busy section from Picnic Point onwards and any of the camps can attract unwanted midnight hoons. I would dearly love to paddle solo but don’t know that I would cope with the safety issues as well as you did.

    • @AmyOutdoors
      @AmyOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Jan 😊 It would be lovely if there were a few boat-access-only campsites along that stretch. Thankfully the midnight hoons kept there distance! I can certainly recommend paddling solo, even though the nights can be scary when you're on your own... you do get used to it eventually, and I don't stress as much these days... you also get better at picking appropriate campsites, but the fact is sometimes you just can't avoid staying at a dodgy camp!

    just watching and it makes me want to do more but need to get my shoulder fixed and some other things, Was always told to do is to burn toilet paper and bury the rest where possible, my next trip will be Paringa to Moorook South I'm allowing 10days to enjoy it.

      Yes, I can't wait to get back out there again soon too! Thank goodness the cold nights have finally started again 🙌
      10 days is a great getaway, and that's a really lovely section of the SA river, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
      Yes, burn toilet paper or bury it 8 inches deep was what I was told too... if only everyone followed those guidelines!

    Hi Amy, I am looking at buying the 3F taiji 2 tent but just wondering how waterproof it is because I noticed that you have a trap over yours at picnic point.

    • @AmyOutdoors
      @AmyOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ralphhalwes3376 G'day Ralph. Yep, it's plenty waterproof... I've had mine in a few storms without a tarp over it, and I've been nice and dry inside. I use the tarp for a few reasons...
      1. To blend into the environment a bit more, I.e. camouflage - this was the main reason I did it at picnic point, I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself.
      2. To keep heavy dew from wetting the tent if I have to get up and away early.
      3. To make it darker in the tent at night during full moon (otherwise it's like sleeping under a street light!)
      4. For shade during summer, so I can sleep in past first light without my tent turning into a sauna
      5. When it is due to rain it gives me somewhere dry to put my gearbags, and to sit and cook without getting wet... the awning the tarp creates makes camping in the rain a generally lovely experience because I can sit outside and watch the rain on the river... and know Incan pack up a dry tent in the morning! Packing up a wet tarp and a dry tent is much nicer than packing a soggy tent and then hoping it'll have time to dry before you put your gear in that night, because a scrunched up wet tent means a wet tent inside and out when you pull it out of the stuff sack... doesn't matter how waterproof your tent is, if you pack it up wet the water seeps everywhere through the tent.
      So yeah, my taiji tent is excellent, and has never leaked... they're a great tent.
      The benefits of a tarp over a tent, any tent, are always worth the painful exercise of putting it up each night I reckon... I rarely camp without a tarp over my tent now, no matter what the weather forecast is.
