@@TJ-bg4fw Not if YOU do something un-historical really, really early into the game and freak out the AI. Then it actually gets pretty bloody interesting. For example, I was playing as Germany (on civilian and full strengthen Germany because I planned to war with no allies at all) and began justifying war goals on Poland on February 6th, 1936, claiming 3 States. Then on the 11th of February, 1936 I also began justifying war on Lithuania, claiming Kaunas. I then declared war on Poland and Lithuania as soon as both justifications were done while the game was on pause, so that neither country would be guaranteed by a democratic country. Doing this allowed me to circumnavigate everything except for Anschluss on the path to 'Around the Maginot'. Well guess what happened... While I'm doing Around the Maginot (which only takes 28 may I add) Russia starts justifying war goals on me, in 1937. Somehow I managed to kill the Soviet Union while taking 18,000 casualties (I kept letting them create a 500km long salient and then closing the neck and just waiting for the attrition to do most of the job killing them) by the June of 1938, and then while declaring war on the low countries (which I didn't notice had been guaranteed by the US) I ended up in a war with Britain, France, the USA and... CUBA?! Funnily enough, I actually lost more troops to Cuba than the other three countries combined, because I just assumed I could face-roll them inside a day without even needing to be tactical in the slightest. I was wrong. They sank my entire invasion force while it was only halfway across the Atlantic :( So to summarise, even on historical you can cause the AI to get very unhistorical and confused.

I chose historical focus, and after barely surviving around maginot (because Italy somehow betrayed and invaded Germany in 1939, some crazy shit going on.) I encountered the craziest shit I have ever seen in my entire time playing HOI4, Cuba somehow did an amphibious invasion of USA, and for some reason the US actually surrendered, and Cuba annexed the entirely of the US. I still lost that game due to Germany regaining their initiative, but it was surely an unforgettable experience.
This was almost literally one of my games. France went fascist and declared on Canada, then joined the Axis when Britain began pushing into French heartlands. Literally hours later, an independent fascist Qing China was attacked by the Soviets (Japan went down their democratic path) and joined the Axis in response. It was pretty wild how quickly shit hit the fan. Within a single day the Germans went from being at peace to fighting the Allies and Comintern in 1938. They hadn't even started claiming the Sudetenland yet.

It sounds to me like your strategists need to drink more tea. Yorkshire Gold Tea to be specific. By consuming enough of that they'd be endowed with incredible power and infinite resources. Nothing's quite as easy as fighting a war with infinite money and the ability to clone troops out of nothing. Perfectly balanced as all things should be.
And the Allies just being Useless. I just finished a campaign as Communist China for all the achievements and I joined the allies after annexing all of Japan and South East Asia. I singehandedly(70% War Score) pushed back to defeat the entire Axis who annexed Russia and took UK mainland. Reclaimed Africa, and the UK. Despite overwhelming naval superiority thanks to my ships, the US and UK never attempted any naval invasion to reclaim UK mainland, lazy and incompetent AI. And earlier while I was struggling to defeat Japan, they pulled off all their troops from Asia causing Japan.
Allies never naval invade with sucess bacause US f*cking A never put their army on England before atack, as Brazil i holded a beachhead for 11 months even maximizing the ports and infraestructure (i dont asked france for mil acess so i was the owner of the land) and the allies never came with at least one heavy tank. After that SU fall because dumb AI dont hold 2 years and game over for me. Same when i play France, i hold germany for 4 years and no allies AI is competent enought to help a bit, so SU Falls on 43 and game over again.
Pre Man the Guns always had the Allies randomly naval invading useless provinces across Europe, and honestly I prefer that rather than Axis curb stomping them all the time
