tack så mycket, my grandmother used to make this! She was from Nykarleby, Finland, grandfather from Jakobstad a Swedish village in Finland and she cooked Swedish dishes all the time.......My grandparents were Finn-Swedes
Thats so cool. I heard the name Nykarleby for the first time on radio this week- what a coincidence :) Jakobsstad i have heard about thoug. My sister in law was born there but emigrated to sweden as a teen :)
In Carina's Kitchen hej. Känner inte till det. mosede roer hittar jag som översättning men det är nog med vad det är en en maträtt. Klassiskt är det iallafall :)
Thanks Ry. Unfortunately many of the old dishes are unpopulsr these days with pizaa and thai food, but i try to make them ones a year atleast to remind me of childhood. I have a few more in my Husmanskost playlist - and planning to add a few more in the months to come. Many are winter typ meals so its good :) Cool you have roots here too :)
This is my kind of recipe! Wow, looks great. Your vegetables look so pretty, and adding the butter was heavenly. I bet that smells delicious. "This is a different dish" for sure! A really good one! No, not prison food at all....just good, country food like we eat anywhere else. Deliciousness in a bowl, I say! Thanks for the recipe, Lasse.
Thank Chris. It is though lol. There are really only a handful of the traditional swedish dishes that are still around today. This is not one of the common ones. Not seen it in a restaurant in years. I had it 30 odd years ago and just suddenly remembered it the other day. I will make it soon again for sure. Very nice indeed :)
That cream on your thumb... you did that on purpose so could lick it off, no ? ;-) I love the traditional recipes of all of you. I love this one and I'll make it when it's cold and we can eat it in front of our open fire ;-) Very good one Lasse !!!
Hello. I am liking this kinda of baby food for grown ups 😂. I've never tasted mustard cream and I liked your whisker device. I think this was great recipe and must go to my want to try list !. I don't think that one ingredient was turnip I think it's called rudabaga (= lanttu in Finnish). We use it usually for a Christmas dish in Finland. Thanks for the drools Lasse. Yummy 😋👍👋
Thanks Päivi - i had to look it up. Kålrot in swedish = lanttu in finnish = rutabaga in english - but its also called swedish turnip. I really wonder why there would be a swedish one and other ones lol. Either way - you are right - so thank you :) i will write it in the recipe. And the whisker came with my immersion blender. Works great :)
This looks so delicious and like really great comfort food :) I love the whipped mustard sauce ! It seems really light and creamy. I don't think I have seen an electric whisk before :) Way more delicious than baby food that is for sure lol ! I think I will try this recipe sometime this winter ! Thanks for sharing :) Thanks so much for the shoutout on the Hot Seat !!
Thanks Mel. Its a hearty meal, and its great on a cold fall or winter day for sure - and done in like 45 minutes in one of your pressurecookers i am sure :) The wisk is an attachment to my immersionblender and it works great. Never saw it before either :)
Thank you for sharing a traditional dish from Sweden. I got a laugh when you mentioned it looked like prison food! I would think that prisoners would enjoy that meal. It looked comforting and delicious. I will add it to my list of recipes to try, though I will have to brine the hamhock myself. Would that be a straightforward salt and sugar brine? Thanks again for sharing.
Thank John. I think you are right. And yes i would assume so. It said in the recipe to add 2 tsp salt per lbs ham if not brined. But i never tried it so not sure if it would come out the same. :)
Lassé that food reminds me of meals my mom prepared when I was growing up on the farm! Ummmmmmmmmmmmm! You can send the left overs to the states! We will all fight over it!
I'm first for the first time.
First or last dont matter Charles. You watching is what makes me happy :)

Looks like a classic! Not sure if we have something similar in Denmark...maybe biksemad? Cubed beef fried with potatoes and topped with a fried egg.
In Carina's Kitchen hej. Känner inte till det. mosede roer hittar jag som översättning men det är nog med vad det är en en maträtt. Klassiskt är det iallafall :)

That is a meal I would absolutely love! There are no "fresh" ham hocks around here. Only smoked ones. But that would be great also! Very nice!
