I like most of what I've read and seen on the Trailmax Missions but hoping you can address my primary concern. These tires are really heavy. The rear tire is at least 4 lbs. heavier than AX41, E 07+, TKC 80 and Anakee Wild. That's a lot of unsprung weight... and while the 390 has some oomph it isn't an Africa Twin or 1250 GS. I know you ran the E 07's on your 390, could you notice any difference or comment on the weight effect or not. Also know you shot this video awhile ago so any tire advice is appreciated.
Hello Mike, the TMM are crazy heavy, and I absolutely noticed the weight of the front turning for a minute. However, the founded profile of the tire allows them to leave over very easily, you just notice the weight a bit bringing it back up. Not an issue IMHO as you stop thinking about the extra effort very fast. - Frank
I never really noticed an issue with the fear, it's more rounded than most aftermarket tires and rides very well on pavement. (And anything other than mud.) - Frank

Hi Frank, I just subbed your channel. I recently purchased a set of TMM, for my 2019 V Strom 1000xt Adventure. Overall I'm very happy with the tire. However, I did notice the bars require more pressure to initiate a turn. It's taken me a thousand miles, to get use to this. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
Hello Elite, the TMM is a very heavy tire. In my experience, this absolutely causes you to put more effort into turning. I got used to it, and not only notice it after riding someone else's bike! Thank you for stopping by! - Frank
I've been thinking this for years, the space between the logs or knobs makes a huge impact in the capabilities of a tire to be great at off road. They could have a design that works on road, but with enough space to grab the dirt.
Hello Al, it seems to be difficult to balance road VS. street. I have ridden a few tires that seem to get the balance right, but at the cost of longevity. I do not like getting under 5K on a tire! The TMM seem to be doing well in most cases. Thanks for stopping by! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Definitely agree, i used to equip my Versys 300 with the previous model of the Trailmax, at 130 width they designed it like a 65/35 tyre and i loved it, but true, it was like a 7.000 mile tyre and the center flattened before 4.000, great on road, ok off road, i have better expectations for this new rubber. Totally agree with you. I had them on my Super Tenere and they had about 20,000km on them when I sold the bike, they would have passed safety but barely. I will try either the Motoz Adventure or use these again when my Tiger needs new shoes.
@One Old Man Riding nope, it has been too cold and rainy to ride. Plus I have been way to busy, man I need to retire. I did just order another set of the TrailMax Missions though as they were on sale.
@pappaclutch3266 I thought they were pretty decent in the rain for a 50/50 type tire, I was running about the same pressure, maybe a bit less. We went through some pretty nasty downpours and I was riding a bit slow, not pushing it. I had the Shinko 805's on before that and they were horrible in the rain. My friend had the Scorpions on and he really liked them.
I got a set on my 1200GS. The front seemed to have some vibration which would bother my hands after a 100 miles or so. Did you have anything like that. I am wondering if the balance on mine may have been a bit off. Any comments would be appreciated.
Hello JW, no issues with vibration. I do balance. It's a very heavy tire, so I think balancing is very important. The tire has a lot of mass to be wobbling of not balanced. - Frank
Hello Alexander, the grip on the TMM rear was fantastic on the 390. I crossed the USA on a VStrom 1000 with the TMM and the rear stepped out a few times on wet pavement. It was disconcerting to say the least. Not uncontrollable, well other than one time, where the traction control saved me. But that was near freezing and I was taking th corner too fast. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding ok sounds to me, only in tricky weather the tire slips which is normal, glad to hear in normal riding conditions the rear held. thanks for replying , ride safe brother

Hello JustWheels, The Mitas front would do better in really sticky mud, it does clear better. That said, for most riding I would choose the TMM. In everything but terrible mud I found it be a better tire. I am running an AX-41 that was recommended to me recently, with a Mitas E-07 rear, and I think that's my choice for tough terrain. I used it in mud, dirt, and deep sand in Florida recently. Performed amazingly well. - Frank

I just don’t like the rear mission tire. After 19k Km I’d say they don’t really do anything well. The slip on wet roads unlike any other tire I’ve ever ridden. They even slip on dry roads after the tread is worn down just a bit. Offroad they are just OK. The side lugs are well built and dig into ruts well enough. The front tire on the other hand is a damn good tire with astonishing grip wet and dry. The front tracks well in gravel. I’m going for mitas next.
Hello Jay, what bike are you on? I am happy with the Mitas rear. The front, not so much. I am running an E-07+ rear, with an AX-41 front now. Very happy with the combo, though I have concerns about longevity. - Frank

@@Igor12822 in my experience, the missions are great at everything but cold or wet, got to be on your toes. And it’s only the rear that has this problem as it’s harder rubber than the front. I’ve done over 100mph only to find out later I had a piece of metal in my tire and no air.
Hello Greg, I have plans to try a Motoz for the KTM next year. This summer was about high miles. Hi Frank, thank you for the review om the TMMs, I think I'll order the front now and a rear before my East coast trip. My Vee650 came with Shinko 705's, The back is still like new but the front already had a lot of cupping, and even with the air pressure bumped up they howl, vibrate and under 10-15 mpg you can feel the bump, bump of the cupping. It is getting to the point of being frustrating. These tires will fill the bill of getting me from coast to coast without a tire replacement needed along the way. 👍
Great Review. New Sub. My buddy put these on his KLR 650, and they performed as well as you would expect looking at them. I know there supposed to be excellent. But it was early in the season, he even wrecked on the asphalt. It was early in the season. I wonder if they lost that performance in the cold weather? I wanted to try them, but they scare me now. Most of his wrecks I got on video.
Hello Adventure Glide, I am now running these on two bikes. The 390 Adventure and the VStrom 1000. I am noticing there is a difference in the tire performance between the sizes. I have never had a slide on the 390 version. Just yesterday I was riding in forty degrees, riding a twisty mountain road. Zero issues. When I was riding the VStrom from the PNW back to NY, I was in temps as low as 34. In Yellowstone I nearly put the bike down when I was on a tight corner as the rear tire just slid to the outside of the corner. SO much that I saw my pannier in the edge of my vision! I rode the VSTrom in rain and hail many times on the trip, no issues other than the corner incident. After that I was VERY careful on corners. And I have to say I would NEVER try and corner as aggressively as I do on the 390. I have no proof, but my theory is that the larger size tires are a harder compound that does not deform and corner as well on cold roads. I know from warm days that the TMM corners very well on the VStrom. - Frank
Very stiff tire. I went over 50 miles (street) back to my camper on a rear flat with this tire on a T7. If the deflated shredded tube wasn't out of balance I wouldn't have known it was flat. Stopped with me setting on the bike no one could tell it had zero air pressure.
Hello Iron, I put on a new windscreen this week. And it's almost removed all wind noise. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly LOUD the TMM front is! Thank you for stopping by! - Frank
So I've been seriously considering the e07 Plus. Looking at a few reviews there is several complaints about the front tire but practically no complaints about the rear. The opposite is true for the trail Max. I'm just curious since you have first hand experience with exactly both, what you think about running an e07 rear and a trail Max Mission Front?
Hello Nathan, I would absolutely recomend the E-07 rear with a TMM front. You will get great road and dirt performance and the tires will last what feels like forever, making it a great deal as well! Thank you for stopping by! - Frank

Thanks for the very informative review.
Do you have a video about this extended windshield? I have the same but U cannot make it work
I do on the channel. 7710 I think? Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Frank, I"m having issues finding the Trailmax front, 100/90-19, everyone out of stock. Do you know if a 110/80-19 will fit ? I'm considering going with the MOTOZ TRACTIONATOR.
Thanks,
SB
Hello Stewart, you can run an 80. The diameter is slightly off, but it will not be a significant change. - Frank
Subbed. Great review, thanks.
Thank you very much! For both! I like independent tire reviews. I watch them before trying a new tire, so it seemed like a good idea to make my won. - Frank
well after the 3rd or 4th glowing review now, once my shinko E700s wear out im getting a set of these for my klr650. seems like the extra money is well worth it.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Thanks for the video! Do you use heavy duty tube? if yes how thick is this?
Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Totally agree with you. I had them on my Super Tenere and they had about 20,000km on them when I sold the bike, they would have passed safety but barely. I will try either the Motoz Adventure or use these again when my Tiger needs new shoes.
Hello Mike, did you get a chance to try the Motoz? I have a set going on next. Thanks for stopping by! - Frank
@One Old Man Riding nope, it has been too cold and rainy to ride. Plus I have been way to busy, man I need to retire. I did just order another set of the TrailMax Missions though as they were on sale.
How did you like them in the rain? I have them on my Super 10 and I don’t feel safe on them in the rain. Running 33 psi in the front 42 in the rear.
@@mikemills5144 I just got some mission Rally’s . Hope they inspire more confidence. I push it tho 😅
- Frank
great review, how was the grip from the rear when hitting curves? did it slip turning sharply in curves?
Hello Alexander, the grip on the TMM rear was fantastic on the 390. I crossed the USA on a VStrom 1000 with the TMM and the rear stepped out a few times on wet pavement.
It was disconcerting to say the least. Not uncontrollable, well other than one time, where the traction control saved me. But that was near freezing and I was taking th corner too fast. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding ok sounds to me, only in tricky weather the tire slips which is normal, glad to hear in normal riding conditions the rear held. thanks for replying , ride safe brother
Ride safe Aleksander! - Frank
Thanks for your review! How would you compare the TMM front to E07+ front in gravel, mud and wet pavement? I remember you praised the Mitas e07+ rear but not so much the E07+ front. I've already chosen me next rear tire but still doubting what to put on front. Best regards!
- Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Thanks for your response! AX41 does indeed look the business. For the rear I was thinking of TKC70 Rocks.
@@J2Wlz Hello J2W, I have only read good things online about the TKC70R. I almost tried the AX41 rear, until I saw folks were getting 3-4K on it. Thats terrible! Plenty of great tires for the bike that will do 8-10K - Frank
thanks for video the tyres..... mitas e07+ dakar or dunlop trailmission in sport driving on the road?
Hello Jose, I prefer the Mitas +, non Dakar, the Dakar is very hard. For sportier riding, the TMM is IMHO ideal. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding thanks for answering and Sorry for my english
I thought that on the Road Dunlop gave more security... The mitas make a lot if noise?
@@josegarciamartinez9236 Hello Jose, I do find the Mitas somewhat noisy. I ride with earplugs, so if you do not, I imagine you will find them very noisy. - Frank
@@josegarciamartinez9236 Never apologize for your non-native language! I appreciate your comments!
- Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I’m on a 1000 Strom. I spend quite a bit of time on crappy roads and dirt. I’m gonna buy a mitas next week and keep the front mission for now. I have a fairly long ride across 5 countries coming up next month. I need a reliable rear. Just don’t trust the rear mission especially if I encounter wet cold surfaces.
This is my experience as well
After 19000km??? How can you expect any tyre to do anything well after 19tkm.... 😂 how was it first 12-15
@@Igor12822 in my experience, the missions are great at everything but cold or wet, got to be on your toes. And it’s only the rear that has this problem as it’s harder rubber than the front. If you want a tire that lasts forever it’s a good choice. Also I appreciate the thick sidewall that with zero psi you won’t notice. I’ve done over 100mph only to find out later I had a piece of metal in my tire and no air.
Good review Frank. But you know I must say #motoz or nothing 😁 you know I love the Motoz tires. Good informative video
Hello Greg, I have plans to try a Motoz for the KTM next year. This summer was about high miles. I added 9K to the KTM and had planned another 5K before I ended up buying a VStrom for my trip in the west.
The TMM would have handled that extra 5K and still had tread!
I look forward to your long term Motoz review for sure! - Frank
PS: I pulled the Shinkos from the VStrom, put 5K on a set of TMM crossing the country (90% pavement) and they look brand new! 😁
@@OneOldManRiding the tractionator adventure wouldn't handle that many road miles but they make a tractionator GPS for that kind of stuff. I'm thinking about trying it next time around. I little more aggressive that the tmm but supposed to be able to get around the 12k mark with them. I think the tractionator adventure will get around 6-7k
Hello Greg, 6-7K is fantastic for a tire with that aggressive a tread! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I think so too.
GRUMP !!!
Hello VW, great pictures on IG today. When is the leave date for your trip? - Frank
- Frank
@@OneOldManRidingI’ve slipped so many times on my Strom with these tires I’m giving up on them. If it were not for traction control id be a dead man.
I have a set on my Tiger 800 XCA. Very impressed how well they work on all surfaces except mud, because they sure don’t look like they should…
Hello Jim, right? I had my doubts looking at them... I was impressed at how well they perform! Thanks for stopping by! - Frank
Very stiff tire. I went over 50 miles (street) back to my camper on a rear flat with this tire on a T7. If the deflated shredded tube wasn't out of balance I wouldn't have known it was flat. Stopped with me setting on the bike no one could tell it had zero air pressure.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
major vibrations on the highway... your hands will go numb if you ride anything over 300 miles before you go offroad!
- Frank
@@OneOldManRidingthat’s exactly what I’m gonna do next. I love the Dunlop front. Mitas rear on order.
Hello Jay, I had the Motas out on cold mud yesterday, a little slippery, but wow that tire will dig in and pull you out! - Frank
Ran these on my 2021 Africa twin. Great on road but shit off road! Rode the IDBDR with them, Never again! No warning when they lose traction. They move around cause they are losing traction, Motoz move around cause they are finding traction.
Hello, after using them on my 390, I put a pair on my VSTrom 1000. I found the rear tire on the big bike to be downright dangerous! I am not sure what's different, but it's a very slippery tire on big bikes. - Frank
