    I think the most beneficial part of watching these, to develop empathy and being more informed when you end up at an emergency room.

      I agree. When our daughter was born we were in the ER all the time until she was about 12. Then we hadn’t been there for anyone in our household - a pause of 25 years. Now my wife is in there a lot, unfortunately.

    I lost my father in December 2022. We all live in Victoria Australia and dad and his wife lived on the Gold Coast in Queensland where he had moved to after his retirement in 2000. Having him so far away made it difficult to see him as often as we wanted to but he did drive down with her a few times and we all flew up to see him at various times. I also had a stillborn baby, his only granddaughter, in 1997. After they moved his wife made it as difficult as she could for us to see him and especially when he was getting sicker I relied on his 2nd wife, the mother of my youngest brother, ,who I had lived with as a teenager and she still saw dad regularly and always let me know what was happening. When he died, his current wife did not even let us know where his body was. He wanted no funeral, so there was just nothing, as though he had never been here. I was 62, and had always been a daddy’s girl, and I was waking in the night sobbing for him, I felt emotionally like a 5 yr old again, when mum threw him out after one too many affairs, and I attached myself to his leg, screaming and sobbing for him not to leave me. My baby sister and I decided that we wanted something to show that he had existed and that he was loved and did matter to many people. We bought him a plot at a beautiful cemetery near where we live and have had his plaque made with a Cessna plane on it as that was his passion in life. He always felt free when he was flying, he was an extremely successful man, and flying enabled him to escape from the world and be at peace. We will put some things from him that he gave us in there and have a little service for those who want to come. Our stepmother would not give us any of his ashes. I am just so sorry that you lost your darling dad Filippo. Not everyone gets a good father and you and I and the siblings were so lucky to get who we got as our dad. I miss my dad so much, and send you much love from Australia

    A saw an older woman about her age, sitting in her car, and she had just hit an electrical pole. The firefighters and EMT showed up and actually made her get up and walk and I could tell her ankle wasn't right. I'll never forget the young kid just looking up into the sky as he was lifting this old woman and making her stand up. She went to stand up and her foot completely went to the left side of her. I was so angry to see that. Her ankle was clearly broken. I never knew what happened with her after that but I'm hoping she didn't lose her foot either.

      😳 I was at a hospital one day with my friend who had ALS, so he was there to see all of his doctors (10 or 12 - it was a very long day). Stupidly, I wore flip flops 🤦🏻 By 2:00 in the afternoon my feet were on fire and gritty but I didn’t have time to do anything about it. By the time I was able to kick my flops off and look at my feet - they were absolutely black and covered with grit that looked a bit like ground glass.
      I got in the shower, gave them a good scrub with a soft nylon brush and some anti-bacterial soap. They were still dark so I kept repeating the scrubbing process until they looked better. When I got out of the shower I sat on the edge of my bed and put my feet in a plastic bin that I had poured a layer of Bactine (because it has lidocaine in it) in and I soaked my feet. After about 20 minutes they were fairly numb, so my wife lathered them with Neosporin plus (because it has lidocaine in it) ointment, put some over-sized socks on that are way too big for my feet, and I laid there and cried for two hours before I finally fell asleep. I’ve never worn flip flops to any hospital since!!!
      PS I also had taken photos of my feet before I scrubbed them and I sent those photos and a letter to the director of the hospital. I told her I realize my choice of footwear was not the wisest choice, but I also told her I expect the hospital floors to not be that gross either. She apologized and explained that it’s difficult to keep the floors clean when there are thousands of people with dirty shoes and wheelchair tires tracking dirt in all day, and she promised to try to have the floors cleaned a few times during the day instead of just at night. I’ve been back to the facility several times and true to her word, I saw mops on every floor several times. One of the custodians told me all he does now is scrub the main hallway floors all day long on one particular floor. Over and over. He told me there’s one guy scrubbing every floor all day long. But I’m still not wearing flip flops to the hospital ever again! 😉

    Kind of annoyed by the doctor with the older women who chose KETAMINE instead of, idk, morphine... to set a fracture?! Ummmm absolutely not. Ketamine is used inappropriately in the UK imo. I know everyone worries about opioid pain medication but jfc, this is the time to use it. A couple doses during trauma is not going to get the older lady "addicted." Ok rant over

    • @shellyhull698
      @shellyhull698 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think they were trying to knock her out, and morphine would not have done that. They didn't want her to feel the pain, make her scream. At her age, that would have been a lot more dangerous could have cause more problems, such as heart attack. The Ketamine was a good choice. If you watch this show enough, you see so many screaming in pain when they try to realign a joint.

    • @roseannarios7312
      @roseannarios7312 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shellyhull698Every time they give younger patients Ketamine they announce that the patient will still scream but they won't remember it. I don't understand why they use it in these instances. Again, like OP, why not just use Morphine? Also, I've noticed it seems like they start jostling an injured patient around, for example when they'll begin to set a fracture, all before giving them adequate pain medication. They say we'll give you pain meds but instead of giving it and waiting for it to kick in they just carry on while the patient's in agony. I don't get it. Another thing that gets me is how someone's BP will drop and automatically they give the patient blood instead of IV saline. These patients should already have IVs of normal saline running. I don't understand why they aren't already and I really don't understand why they'd want to risk further complications as a result of the blood transfusions either. Sorry, didn't mean to rant. I love the show I just don't get why they do certain things.

      Yeah. I thought the same. It was said through the eyes of a professional who could see the surgery, healing, ageing process. Very much a professional thought that should have stayed between professionals in private. While patients need to hear realistic expectations of their injuries but it needs to be free from comments around how others might view the process they have to go through. Some people may thrive others may not but it shouldn’t be influenced by what professionals think they should be feeling about it.

      ……was in Recovery, post toe Op. Just coming to, when I heard a nurse, who had her back to me, say, ‘this one’s lucky she didn’t lose her toe’. My eyes’ were still closed, but I took a peek at her, but I didn’t say anything to her.
      When my Ortho came to see me later, I lodged a Complaint with him, about what she said. He was appalled, so I hope she was demoted. It was absolutely disgraceful to say that in earshot of the patient, about whom she was being derogatory.

    I wasn’t very keen on the stroke registrars bedside manners. I felt like she acted in a very flippant manner when they found the bleed on the brain and with how she communicated with the family. I wouldn’t be happy with that treatment.

    denying of surgery to seniors, purely because of age, as was the case with Filippo, is unacceptable. If one's kidneys and liver are still functioning well, anesthesia should not be a problem. I suppose the things the doctor worried about were that he already had some dementia, as indicated by the fact that he did not seem to understand that he'd had a stroke, and that he had some cardiac problems. I still think that surgery to remove that clot should have been attempted. What that Asian doctor did killed him, in my opinion. Ive looked it up, and giving Warfarin, a blood thinner, to a patient who has already had a brain bleed, made no sense, and is most likely what killed him. Warfarin can CAUSE brain bleeds, for heaven's sake! The surgical procedure to remove a brain clot involves threading a very fine tube through a blood vessel, to break up and suck out the clot. This should have been attempted for Filippo, in my opinion. The Asian doctor is guilty of discrimination against the elderly. She's not a good doctor. My brother is a physician, and he agrees with me. Most of the doctors I've seen on this show are really good. But not this Asian woman. She didn't even present the option of surgery to the family, and she should have. It should have been their decision, not hers. She should have presented the positives and negatives of every treatment option to them, and let them decide. Prince Philip had hip replacement surgery, at age 95, and walked, unassisted, into Harry and Meghan's wedding a month later. He was thirteen years older than Filippo, at that time. Deciding against surgery for a patient, simply because of his or her age, is unacceptable.
