SPOOKY DAY COMPARED! Sims 3 vs. Sims 4 Halloween Traditions!

  • In this video, I'm comparing Spooky Day in The Sims 3 vs. The Sims 4! Halloween traditions such as pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, costume parties, festivals and more! There was so much to cover - especially in The Sims 3! Which one is your favorite?
    I love the fall festivals included in The Sims 3: Seasons expansion. There are so many fun, fall- and spooky-themed activities for your Sims to do. Plus, sending your Sim children trick-or-treating is so much fun! There's admittedly less to do in The Sims 4, and it's kind of sad that you have to pay for cool decorations that you get for free in The Sims 3. But, I do really like the pumpkin carving and spooky parties in TS4.
    Spooky Day is my favorite holiday in real life and in The Sims! And since Spooky Month is finally here, I've got lots more spooky content lined up for you throughout October. Thanks so much for watching!

    If we ignore the fact that to play with the “COMPLETE” spooky stuff in SIms 4 you need to buy 2 Packs, the Spooky celebration has i’ts own charming. But then you look back to all the gameplay in Sims 3, the festivals and ALL the Stuff in one Pack, it’s absolutely Perfect ✨👻

      Also. be VERY Careful about Sims Stomping on LIT Pumpkin Lanterns, as they MAY be lit on Fire for it. and this Fire Behaves as Normal, you have 1 Hour (3 If Daredevil) to Extinguish them before they burn to Death. Mostly because I was partially Expecting Cindy's Sim to Ignite. and her to go "WHA?". it happens lol

    like for example, cindy mentioned hydrophobic sims will NEVER autonomously go applebobbing because they don't like water (4:17). childish and coward sims will get spooked out before entering the haunted house (5:57).

    It's kinda bizarre you need to buy a separate pack to get the full Spooky Day experience in The Sims 4. But I guess that's what The Sims 4 does best. It splits content into a multitude of packs so you have to pay more to have the same features you'd have in one pack in previous games.

    • @gowonsupremacist
      @gowonsupremacist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      it speaks volumes the way both were handled. The Sims 3 was lacking decor for Spooky day, and they released 4 different packs for free to use. On the other hand, Sims 4 sold the accessories even before Seasons was released, and made you make the holiday yourself in Seasons.

    • @adrianblake8876
      @adrianblake8876 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Well, splitting content is not new. LN and Showtime are each one half of the Sims2 NL expansion. Sunlit Tides came before IP, which is the "island" destination of BV, the Sims2 equivalent of WA...
      And we also never got the expansion equivalent for OFB or AL in the Sims3, giving us subpar towns, because we're left with rabbitholes for what other games given us open lots...

    Funnily enough, I live in Germany and it is quite common to let kids go trick or treating on their own, when they are like 8/9. Kids usually do it with their siblings/friends and they know the neighborhood anyway so it is not a big deal.

    • @PleasantSims
      @PleasantSims  3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      I love that! We never were allowed to go on our own, but we would be dropped at the top of a street and our parents would pick us up at the end, so kind of semi-alone. Today, I don't know anyone who lets their kids go alone in America. It's too bad because it's such a magical time to be a kid!

    • @claraf.6833
      @claraf.6833 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I was gonna say that too! We had an adult accompany us until we were around 9 years old. We went there as a group and had one parent or another adult go with us. The adult usually stayed at the end of the driveway while we rang the doorbell.
      In a safe and close-knit neigborhood it's totally safe for kids to go alone.

    • @kittypink
      @kittypink 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I started just going with my teenage brother when he was sixteen. He doesn't trick or treat anymore, and I'm not doing it alone, so I no longer trick or treat. But I always went with my mom before that, and with my dad when he was available. (I can't believe he would skip out on trick or treating to support the family)

    • @kaiwannagoback5712
      @kaiwannagoback5712 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We went Trick-or-Treating of course without adults, starting when I was 4 and my sister was 6. It was simply not done, to have parents accompanying their kids: they were supposed to stay home to give out treats, and children who were toddlers were considered too young to go and were kept home. I believe it was the whole "poisoned candy" urban legend that almost killed Halloween as we knew it, coupled with a societal paranoia about US kids going anywhere or doing anything, without an adult escort, til at least their teens, that took over starting in the 90s. It was commonly believed here that "things are different now" but violent crimes were higher in the 1970s than they are now, but the sensationalist news cycle had parents convinced that it was unsafe to let kids have the same freedom they themselves had enjoyed, to the detriment of all. Hoping the pendulum of public sentiment has shifted toward common sense more now, but parents here still live in fear of some busybody calling the authorities if they let their kids walk to the park or playground unescorted, in some parts of the US, for the fear of whatever worst-case (but nevertheless unlikely) scenario anyone can dream up.

    Also now that I have experienced the emotions system, those moodlets don't seem so bad in comparison lol Probably much more valuable than the emotion moodlet I'd get if apple bobbing were in TS4. At least the moodlet hangs around and impacts your sim a bit and gives you satisfaction points, the emotion i'd get would get overwhelmed when they enter a dust free room and give me nothing.

I do think the pumpkin carving animation is way better in TS4 though! However I prefer just clicking the pumpkin and the sim just sitting down to it and then you drag the pumpkin where you want it. Rather than the whole station/furniture thing in TS4 where you have to find room for it then put it away/sell it after. I dunno. TS4 has so much potential but it's still meh to me compared to 2 and 3. Loved this video so excited for spooky times! I'm not super well informed on the whole apple bobbing thing, but to my knowledge it came about from Roman traditions being blended with the pre-Christian Irish holiday Samhain (Sow-ain). This holiday is what Halloween evolved from (Long story). Apples were a religious symbol used in divination by Irish druids. There were a lot of different divination rituals performed during Samhain, many of which were centered around match-making. I think "Bobbing for apples" was one of those types of activities, I think. I remember reading that the apples were strung on strings originally?

    One of my favourite features from Sims 4 is the ability to decorate the house using the decoration box. I love the animation of sims rummaging through the box and the house gradually getting more festive as you select more decor options. I also like how in Sims 4 we get some lot traits to make any lot a bit more spooky or festive. I also think the magic gnomes are a perfect tradition for spooky day.

    I love those videos. Sims 3 has so much to give, sims 4 could never.
    I'm also very jealous of your computer set up. My new razor laptop can't handle sims 3 after the save file grew to a decent size. The last save broke and i had to delete it. And the CPU and GPU weren't even full in work, idk... I don't get how simmers like you have the game run so smoothly over time.

    • @maryrae186
      @maryrae186 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard of this happening to a lot of people! There is a patch that can make a game work more smoothly (64 bit for PCs by a modder) and there is also a little hack about the save. If you notice your game starting to break or lag due to a large save, you should create a new save file of the same game. It won't be as laggy as it won't save memories!

    • @felmargego2534

    I have bobbed for apples! LOL, like 30 years ago, my church had a fall festival (to attempt to prevent kids from celebrating Halloween, you know those things) and they had one. I was too young to think about germs.
    OMG, I got soooo many of the witch gnomes from that Haunted House! Never turned into a ghost, but got the touched by one moodlet alot, along with pretty much all the others. Yes, that was my favorite holiday in TS3 as well. I had several sims whose goal was to get all the gnomes, so went thru that haunted house alot.
    Hahahaha... I don't think I've ever done a party in TS4 but I use the spooky day stuff to decorate haunted houses. Though I do use the bowl for trick or treaters. I obviously added it to my game, lol, it was the first thing I added in seasons. Since I've not done a party I actually didn't know they had all those extra costumes for the party.
    Uh, I know how they could do trick or treating in TS4. Have the kid visit a lot and on spooky day only they can trick or treat instead of knocking on the door. Or it does it automatically on that day when they do knock on the door. Oh, but that sounds like too much work for them. Sorry.

    I bobbed for apples exactly once in my life as a kid and didn't really think about how gross it was until right after I did it. I never bobbed for apples again 😅 The easiest fix for how they could've approached trick or treating for or playable children in TS4 would've just been to make it a rabbit hole. Your kids could disappear for an hour or two and then come back with a trick or treating buff and candy in their inventory. I have no idea why they didn't just give us that 🤷🏿‍♀️

    well, I can't belive I'm typing this, but I prefear how they did it in the sims 4 (except that you need 2 packs to have everything -_- ) because it feels a little more international. The Sims is a life simulation game in the USA. I'm spanish and I've never celebrated spooky day. I've never gone trick or treat, carved a pumpking or participate (or see) an eating contest. I went to a disco to dance with a costume once but it is for cultural influence and it was a weekend, it's not a tradition, just an excuse. On 1st of November there's the tradtion of going to the cementery and honoring your dead ones (but I don't think many people does it) it is el día de los muertos but we don't have such a strong tradition as in Mexico. So I like that in the Sims 4 you can choose if you want to include it in your gameplay and I saw there's an option of the traditions to choose that is "rememberance" so it's cool.
