    Why does everything the Sims 4 team do seem half assed? 😂 it’s like they have this great idea to make the game better, plan it all out, exaggerate how amazing it’s going to be, and then implement the most surface level, basic version of those ideas.
    Honestly, if the sims 4 was going to release quality, substance-filled expansion packs like we had in previous games, it would take a lot longer than a couple months between each pack. I think they just don’t have enough time to flesh out these ideas and add more detail to the gameplay. If we actually got good packs, they’d take a year or two AT LEAST to complete them before releasing them to the public. I guess the impatient players that demand new stuff are getting what they’re asking for :/

    • @Roxie1255
      @Roxie1255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      My thought is they pitch the idea to the higher ups at EA ans they tell them trim it down or that it will cost too much. I’m not a Sims 4 apologist but from watching others videos on the history of Maxis and EA and how EA didn’t even want to Toilets in the game I wouldn’t be surprised if they are constantly told to split it up or stay under budget.
      Summer Erin has a great video on a former Sims employee sharing some behind the scenes info about their time at EA/Maxis.

      The problem is that The Sims 4 was rushed. The base game wasn't done properly from the start. Sims 1-2 were passion projects so a lot of care was put into them, Sims 3 was a Sims introduction internationally. By this time Sims had picked up significantly internationally. Sims 4, is now an established brand so it's now more about money honestly. This has proven to be a major failure as the devoted Sims community expected the same level of care as before. Now they're trying to quickly add things that should have been there from base.

    • @blonde_dumb2867
      @blonde_dumb2867 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@zyxcba3155 Even if I personally think the game feels rushed, or almost like an unfinished beta, doesn’t make it a bad game, of course. I was born the same year the sims 2 was released, my first introduction to the sims was The sims 3 pets on ps3 😂 and I was still pretty young when I started playing the sims 4, I was only 12 in 2016, when I got the game.
      But I’ve been introduced to the sims 2 and more of the sims 3 through Pleasant Sims, and honestly it just made me sad how little the sims 4 has when it comes to content, compared to the older ones. I mean kids can do cartwheels in the sims 2! You’d never see an idea like that put into the sims 4.
      OG Sims and Sims 2 were definitely passion projects, even if you read the story behind how they came up with the simlish language, they put a lot of thought, creativity, and work into it. To me Sims 4 is another representation of Gen Z appeal, like the remakes of the Disney movies. Reruns of the same old stuff, but this time it’s slightly worse in some ways😂
      Honestly, if we’re gonna have a new life simulation game, we should just leave the sims franchise a rest and make new type of life simulation thing similar to the sims. That’s why I have more faith in Paralives than the sims 5.

  • @NawiTheCore
    @NawiTheCore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +176

    23:00 I don't understand why you want a hobbie system in The Sims 3 when there's already one built in in the base game through traits and skills. Sims can talk about their favorite activities, can use the computer to research about their favorite activities, you unlock new interactions such as "Tinker" or "Revive Plants" depending on your traits or skill levels, there are books you can read to level up a skill, there are challenges and oppportunities for each skill, etc. The only thing that's missing is a secret club.

    • @organicstorm
      @organicstorm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      By that logic, Sims 4 offered basically the same before the likes/dislikes patch already, too .. there too, certain traits give skill boosts/increase skill gain, higher skill levels in any skill unlock new socials about the skill and you can read books/research skills on the computer etc, and skill based aspirations also often give skill based reward traits. But being skilled in sth shouldn't be treated the same as that being your hobby, imo. Like.. being "good" at sth doesn't necessarily mean you gravitate towards doing it in your leisure time, and enjoying sth in your free time doesn't mean you want to be "skilled" in that area (e.g. art - I can be enthusiastic about sculpture and then want to discuss and learn *about* it without wanting to be a decent *at* sculpting myself)

      @@organicstorm i mean, in the s3 Sims will be pulled towards enhancing their skills through their wants, which mainly correlate with their lifetime wish/traits & skills they’ve already worked on before. The skills journal also adds a whole layer of gameplay, albeit user-directed, that can really accentuate which “skills” your Sims like as “hobbies”. Functionally, there’s not much more that could be added to the Sims 3 to give them hobbies. I especially like that this means in ts3 Sims can have multiple natural hobbies, rather than being predestined for only 1.

    • @NaraKwonPoD
      @NaraKwonPoD ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pearldiver6949 you can get points in every hobby in the sims 2, not just the predestined one. the predestined one is just gained faster but not by enough to matter. each hobby is just a category in the sims 2, meaning you can give them a ton of different hobbies that fall under that category. much more than 5, which is the most you could get in the sims 3 by choosing traits bookworm or green thumb. another bonus point is you dont have to waste a whole trait on "this sim likes this hobby". sims in the sims 2 get to enjoy all those hobbies while still keeping their separate personality points.

      @@Ilivepuppys theyre close enough, and a lot of the skills are hobbies irl

  • @SlysGames
    @SlysGames 3 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    I really wouldn't say TS3 didn't have a hobby system. The way I see it hobbies were incorporated into skills rather then being a completely separate mechanic. In TS3 skill's were overhauled so that they were more specific (ie splitting creativity into painting, writing and, the diffrent instruments) and covered a much wider range of activities. Increasing skills will unlock new interactions and abilities just as increasing enthusiasm in 2 does. On top of that their are also the skill challenges which gives sims more to work towards them simply maxing a skill.
    Diffrent sims will have wishes to learn/advance diffrent skills depending on their traits and LTW and in my experience the more a sim practices a skill the more they become interested in that activity. So in that way it does very much feel like the sims develop interests in certain hobbies.

    (Great video tho!)
    Color: if your Sims favorite color is Pink & they are in the Rockstar career, they will get a pink limo. However Hot Pink won’t work, only Pink.
    Music: Sims who are not Party Animals can only smustle(?) dance to their favorite music genre. However Party Animals can smustle dance to any genre of music. Plus the moodlet for listening to music will be bumped up.
    Food: If your sim has befriended someone, they will sometimes get the wish to find out what their favorite food is and cook it for them. They will also get a bumped up moodlet for eating their favorite food.
    Also I had no idea about the ITF stuff and how Sims disliked the opposite color... really cool.

    a mix between 2 and 3 would have been great, as i very much so prefer to pick hobbies and interests myself with my pre-planned sims and having them do stuff that goes against their backstories just because of their personality is a bit of a throw off :( sporty sims should be allowed to be shy or grumpy, ya know? or an active one be into science! however i like the idea of secret lots and being able to build up towards a goal and exporing the hobby/likes further. i think 4 has a good base but isnt really there yet, still falls a bit short in some places but they at least have a rection to things they like/dislike. i actually wish you could pick a dislike in sims 3 as well, like having them hate salads, as it makes it a little more balanced instead of it being the opposite color type deal.

    I think Sims 3 did it best with it being noticeable enough that it adds more depth to sims while being subtle enough that it is not made explicitly clear without looking at their simology panel. Sims 2 would have won because it would add yet another layer of depth to your sim. Unfortunately I think it was poorly executed especially for wants based players. With high enthusiasm no matter what the sims personality or aspiration is they start only getting hobby wants. I was unfortunate enough to have my sim be maxed out in 2 hobbies (Arts and Crafts and Film and Literature) and 100% of the time they always had the wants to paint a masterpiece and sell a great novel. Once completed: the want would roll the same want again. Every morning my sim would wake up wanting to blog and talk about their hobby. I even tried getting a mod that disables the talk and blog hobby wants but they were just replaced with other stuff such as watch a movie. There is just no room for personality and aspiration related wants. In the end I had to get a mod that disables the enthusiasm system entirely. What a shame.

    It's a shame Sims 4 don't develop features from the previous versions considering technology isn't as limited as it was in 2004 and 2009. Why can't EA add fears, non reciprocal friendships (non reciprocal sentiments was already a big step), personality/ interest sliders, confort and environment needs, individual bios, create a style (or a colour wheel)?

    I’d like to add something you do in a lot of your let’s plays about sims 2 favorites .. or at least their likes.. so when you makeover a sim in the mirror and they look at themselves they’ll either be happy about it, clap crazily and love it or make a gag reflex indicating they hate their new look. And if they want to change their clothes a want pops up.
    I just thought that was a cool feature 😅 it just adds to the personality more to me
    Oh and objects too like paintings and decor they can check out and they’ll let you know if they hate it or not. With sims 2 you actually watched your sims.. you didn’t need moodlets.

    My favorite is sims 2. Although it has less categories than 3 and 4, the hobby system is so expansive, so in depth and completely overhauls how you play the game, so it is 100% my favorite and want it back so badly. Plus, the secret lots amount to 10, which relative to sims 4 standards is a complete world added. For sims 3 I find it a huge disappointment, they have pretty much 0 impact and even impacts that are there are so low they’re barely noticeable. Sims 4 is in the middle, some disappointments and some things I like. I’m really hoping that they add more hobbies and skills, but I like that they have multiple likes and dislikes; I also am happy that the way your sim interacts with the world impacts wherever they have a like or dislike, rather than what I expected, which is them deciding at random what they like/dislike regardless of how they feel. And finally, I like that they’re impacted by doing a liked or disliked activity. Disappointed by lack of hobbies, but I’m actually not giving up hope that they’ll patch in non-skill hobbies. Also it’s tied into a broken system, but without mods there’s no hope for that. So my order is 2, then 4 and then 3.

    This is random but in Sims 3 I always found that if a Sim went autonomously to cook, they'd 95% choose the veggie option of all the foods. Sims 2 version of a hobby is so deep. Unlike sims 4, there is an actual difference between a skill (an experience) and a passion (a drive to do something). Just like in real life: i cook pretty good, my skill would be like 6-7, but i don't have a passion to do it, and i have a passion for writing even though i have much less experience in this field, maybe like 3-4. I like how in sims 2 your hobby actually depends on personality and interests, not purely on things you force your sim to do.

    It’s just so funny that The Sims 4 team didn’t think the whole game through before they released it.
    For example, in the sims 2 it was so in depth with hobbies from the get go, but in the sims 4 the only reason they added “likes & dislikes” was because home decorator (or whatever it is) had an aspect that needed it, so they just decided, after the game had been released for 7 years, to include likes and dislikes lol.

    Most of the times I'm a The Sims 2 advocate but this time I will have to choose The Sims 4. I actually dislike the hobby system in TS2, for various reasons:
    - It's extremely intrusive unless you have a bunch of mods: the hobby instructors barge into your house at the worst times and the memories that come with the lots just add more junk to an already overflowing memory system; they added telemarketing, which is something I hate in real life and hate in the game as well; the sims keep rolling hobby wants, which keep them from having actually interesting ones; both the glow and the noise that they make when they enter the zone are annoying.
    - The system they use to choose the predetermined hobby doesn't make any sense: why would someone who is shy and nice be into tinkering? Why do you need to be serious to be into music and dance?
    - The hobbies sometimes are too broad, I don't some of my ballet dancers to be addicted to the drum set, or elderly chess players to play videogame all the time.
    - They could've totally reworked the interest system (which only really affects conversation), but in TS2 they had the same problem they have in TS4 where they just add new systems instead of expanding the older ones (just like they added talent badges instead of expanding the very few skills the game has);
    I also prefer TS4 color system over TS3 just because I hate when I'm making a Sim or a room over and then I make something too spiceberry instead of violet or too irish green instead of regular green. I would enjoy more colors, it they are really different from the ones we already got (like beige, or teal, or violet), but there's no need to have 20 colors when many of them look so similar.
    I really miss some activities (I would add cleaning to your list, just to make sims who hate or love doing chores) and autonomy, but besides that I really like the system. Also, having a clothing style category would be a great addition that I always wanted to see in the game.
    With all that said, even though I really liked TS4's system in theory, the game is still unplayable because of all the issues you always point out (mainly emotions, autonomy, personality and wants/fears), so to me the Likes and Dislikes are like the icing on top of a turd.💁‍♂️

    Lol, I feel so silly commenting about the traits and hobby relation on your other video when you literally go over it here 🤣 I should have known you're the queen of sims 2

    I remember hearing about favourite foods in Sims 2 a little while ago but when I tried to look it up I found nothing!
    Thank you for making everything so clear to me now!

      There's not much about it online but there's some info in the Prima Guide!

    wow. this came at the perfect time. i finally got the sims 3 packs i want, and now i can freely play sims 2, 3, or 4. this honestly feels like something i thought i could never have haha. i never really sought it out until recently, but it shows me life can pan out. anyway, i am so excited to get an overview of the likes systems in the games, as they are pretty important to me.
