I’ve had this machine since the day we bought it new on 06/04/1973. Its never needed anything other than a few brush rolls and belts and three new power cords aside from a couple of routine maintenances done at the local Kirby dealership in the forty nine years that we’ve had it. I only use it one a month now to reset the nap of my wool area rugs by turning them over because I have some excellent premium vacuum cleaners that are lighter in weight like a Sebo G4 upright and a Miele Straight Suction canister vacuum with both a combination straight suction rug nozzle and a turbo driven brush nozzle that are easier to use but I find that every month the Kirby is assuring in my mind that it’s getting tiny specs of sand out of the rugs.
Thank you very much for sharing.. The Kirby vacuums, and the old Electrolux canister vacuums will last for ever.. They don't make most vacuums like they use to.. My mother before I was born bought in 1950 a Kirby 510... Wal Mart vacuums are down right "SCRAP."
What a cool machine! I myself am a 1973 model, so I like stuff from this time. That woodgrain just screams 70's! My mom had a 1969 (or '70) Rainbow, and while the can itself didn't have woodgrain, right around when I was born, she got the carpet power head, which did have a thick strip of woodgrain. I myself have been infatuated with Kirby for 20+ years, when around 2002, my neighbor "practiced" his demo on me with an Ultimate G. I was gob smacked and hooked. The performance is awesome. It'll practically suck the nails out of the floorboards through the carpet! I couldn't afford it, though. I thought I'd never see another one. They are like the Rolls-Royce of vacuums! I've had 2 Kirby projects, a G5 (my first) and a G4. I don't have them anymore. So, I just bought another project - a Gsix 2001 Limited. I lost my leg to an amputation a couple of years ago and can't get used to the pain of a prosthetic. So, I'm in a wheelchair. I can't use much of any vac, especially a canister. The Tech Drive is a lifesaver for me. Plus, it's a throwback to the days of when you fixed stuff instead of throwing it away. Even the nastiest Kirby can be fixed - all the way up to a full restoration. TLC and elbow grease. The parts are very reasonable to buy, and you don't have to have a library of manuals and a degree in rocket science to fix it yourself. Just a little mechanical aptitude. Thanks. I'm not sure how many of our kind there are, but it's cool to see a kindred spirit.
This model was just featured in That 90’s show. Also fun fact: the Kirby Classic was the last model that Jim Kirby produced before he passed away. It is also the model that my Uncle owns, it was given to him by my grandparents who are the original owners. “My grandfather bought it from a salesman as a gift for my grandmother, and she loved the machine”
@@I_also_like_sirens_heheit was a fairly recent one, I forgot the name but in it, Red replaces kitty’s fallen Kirby with a soniclean upright, the problem is Soniclean didn’t come out until the mid 2000’s, and the model he buys is one that just came out a few years ago. I guess you could pretend that Red picked up a prototype model or something
Personally if I was providing the props in the show, I could see Red buying Kitty something like a Eureka Bravo or a Hoover Elite, which were common models of the mid-late 90’s which is when the show take place

Thank you so much! If taken care of, the older ones will definitely be in service for generations :)

Nice Kirby I found one in the trash today I still need to test it out but I’m very excited to find it I been looking for a omega for a while now
Beautiful Omega!
Thank you so much!
I remember the summer of 1975, my folks bought this model new from a kirby dealer in Niagara falls. Our old 505 was sent to the factory for a rebuild.
That’s so awesome! I love both of those models!

@@nightwolf883 oh that’s so cool! I didn’t know that! Thank you for sharing! And thanks again for watching!

You're going to have to buy a house with a 15 car garage just for the vacuums!
Oh big time! haha currently everything is in a series of storage units, but that all will change next year when we get a house :)
