I just use isopropyl and it has always behaved perfectly and is even cheaper. But I gather the clumsy of pine resin from pine trees in my yard and the surrounding woods. But the chunks of rosin have bark dust and sawdust for boring larva so it has to be dissolved in a sealed jar of alcohol and allowed to settle for a few days before the clear amber liquid is poured into your flux bottle. When it works well my flux is as crystal clear yellow as fine machine oil. If it is just mediocre then it looks like German dark beer.

When I was at school, more than a year or two ago, we used to make a paste of borax and water for silver soldering Cu.

Yeah, that's a corrosive flux. Something slightly different than this

    👍😊 Nice !
And what about cleaning - after soldering .. ?
Think I have some of that "kalofonia" stuff in "treasure chest" from my father ..
Also remember his "zinc quenching hydrochloric acid" - not for kids - but useful for soldering steel parts (wires) and similar ..

guy, thanking for your video. The osin flux, i have understood that is pine resin. But one need to know the amounth of each one of them.
(About the alcohol, is because some can be tasted, and others don't, because is dangerous.)
    Thanx.

My question is, can one just add a bit of isopropyl alcohol to some paste flux when you want a liquid flux for ease of use? I wonder if it would still work!

Hi there I tried making this Kind of flux liquid as per your video however it turn out to solid state stone like after resting for 24 hours leaving alcohol (ethanol)on top in closed glass bottle. What can be problem

I also took manufactured paste flux, added 99.9% alcohol and it did the same thing separating after a period of time.

I found ingredients real for flux what is material base, there's two type material base beside rosin & isopropyl: 1. Gelatin look like ointment, 2. Gel for general look like Amtech NC 559, but there a lot kind code number type chemical gelatin & gel for soldering type, may should ask people with knowledge chemical material for right number type gelatin & gel for mixture rosin & isopropyl.

The majority of the super expensive products on the market, in all industries are made from several basic chemicals, that costs 0,1cent per 1 dollar of retail product.
This is how flux is made.
If you want more aggressive one, just add 2% by weight citric acid from your local supermarket. This is the core ingredients of the flux. There is few more ingredients, that are added to regulate the viscosity, for stopping re-crystallization, for pleasant odor, for not sticking to the board etc... Which you can also find in a grocery store 😁

No no, video too slow. For one thing, I can barely understand a word he says, and he is using the WRONG alcohol! Just use 91 percent ISOPROPHYL alcohol and rosin. This alcohol dissolves the rosin very quickly, and makes a great solder flux for electronic use.

Ethanol is better for making flux than IPA, but I guess typing with capital letters is more important for you than thinking 🤣 mister "soddering"
