- Big Flathead Catfish pull like a freight train and they have always been on my bucket list! I’ve caught many in my time. Most of them have been 5-8# fish. Nothing bragging size by any means. Until today! This fish blew my PB completely out of the water!

Can’t take the credit for that.
If you decide to do a home bait tank for bluegill you will need some excellent filtration in addition to aeration. Those guys somehow make as much fecal matter as a politician. No need to feed to add to that problem if you are using them within a month or two from my experience. Lots of great videos on here to give you more ideas on setting up your own tank. Thankful I have a wife here that likes me happy even when I'm weird about having live bait at home.

No greater feeling is to see that bobber go under. Just did my PB last Saturday. 20 LBS. I'm after that monster.
That is still just crazy that we got almost the exact same size flattie so close together. Goin on this journey for the monster together. Maybe we can hook up and go on the hunt in person.

I live in kincaid really close to sangchris and I have a love hate relationship with this lake like no other. Fishing is my passion and flathead are what I've been hunting since last year which would be my first season actively targeting flathead, so far I've only caught one about 1 lb flathead out of there but I see the pics of the tournament so I know they are in there maybe you can take a greenhorn out sometime and give me some tips! My pb is only 13 lbs I haven't even seen a flathead bigger than that in person and I've been hurting for it man. Hope you get to see this
Keep after em! I walked away from last year with one Flathead. Caught it while crappie fishing. Had a few opportunities at giants but sometimes you swing and miss.
If you can cast net bream in your state, it would save a lot of time. Great Vid.👍

I caught one that went 47 lbs over by the campground point there a few years ago. I was trolling for bass and crappie

Funny how that works out. I got a 20lb blue cat that hit a hot-n-tot while trolling for walleye. Can’t catch one when I’m trying to though lol

That was the other rod I was rigging up. Tried using an old over size cigar float on that one. Didn’t care for it as much as those super floats. So, that ones in retirement.

No. I do not use weighted floats.
Did you use a circle hook with the float? it looks like it.. and I've heard in some other videos that circle hooks don't work with floats???
Yeah. That one came on a circle hook. Just gotta catch up to em and reel down. Biggest mistake with a circle is setting the hook.

I’d say maybe 35-40 feet.

Hey I would like to know what hook size would be good to catch some large mouth bass with the same size of bluegill you used
I catch multiple large mouth while Flathead fishing. 8/0 eclipse circles from nocturnal nation. They’ll do the trick.

What size circle hook for live bait
I use 6/0 - 10/0 hooks. Depends on the size of bait I’ve got. Check out Nocturnal Nation Catfishing. They have a great variety of hook options. I like their Eclipse Circles, Pig Stickers and Nocturnal Nastys.

I use the navionics app. It gives you a good estimate on depth.

@@jigginwithjake2796 I agree man I'm not a blue cat guy not that I dont like them I'm just always after flatheads I honestly have never fished Springfield I usually hammer sangchris spring and fall I've caught my biggest flattys at sangchris in October and november right now I'm beating up the sangamon river and salt creek i got a few buddies that fish powerton and springfield and have caught 70+ lb blues
