  • Goldee's BBQ co-owner Nupohn Inthanousay, 29, said he was reluctant to introduce his Lao culture to Texas BBQ enthusiasts because he was not sure whether their reaction would be positive or not. After being convinced by his fellow owners, they decided to add in smoked Lao sausage and it was a popular hit with the community. Following it's success, Inthanousay was encouraged to added more traditional dishes from Laos.

We have also loved going to Lao New Year with them and experiencing that as well. I make sticky rice, larb, papaya salad, red curry and Bun Thit Nuong in my home. I know one of those is Viet not Lao/thai but we love all the asian inspired foods. We will come check you guys out!❤

Might be the stigma of colorism from back in the days of the refugee camps, my mom talks about this but we don’t experience that anymore. I definitely agree with your family, I had very few positive experiences with Korean people as well. Taking Korean in college for 2 years was one of the worst school experiences I’ve ever had because the Korean students were bullies. They called all of the SE Asian students jungle Asians. It was one of the very few times I’ve felt so much shame for being Lao.
