      Hi, Bro !
      No one can help me, everyone is silent. All hope for you.
      Where is the whole texture that is superimposed on the terrain stored ? in overlaymaterial, it is called - overlay. png.001
      if I transfer an object to 3ds max, it is without a texture.
      how do I do this ? how to transfer the resulting terrain and overlay mat to 3d max, and most importantly, that the glued texture was physically on my hard disk (for subsequent adjustment, for example, in photoshop).
      I'm a complete noob in blender, I installed it only for this plugin.
      Please help me, I've been suffering for 3 days.
      Sorry for my English.

    • @TheCGEssentials
      @TheCGEssentials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tomyoda I would assume the texture is stored within the .blend file itself. I can't help you with opening it in Max as I've never used Max, but I'm sure there's some kind of standard way of doing this out there somewhere

      @@TheCGEssentials Thank you for your answer !
      I figured it out.
      when a texture is applied to a terrain, it is rendered.
      you need to switch to the Render tab and select overlay. png in the list
      and then do Save As.
      Enjoy )

    So my experience with this after checking this video :
    i have signed up to map box to have my token and i used the free version off the plugin. So 2d resolution map is really bad quality compared to a google custom map "to print". The 3d building are not really accurate but you got general shap to begin with for some who are complex. Then i imported the generated scene with terrain on my current blender file based on google map 3d extraction + 2d "printed" high res ( 2K ) and it aligned well. i got like 1 metter "error" from a distance of 560m.
    So to finish my level i think i gonna use both tools because the only real pain to deal with is building and maibe road. For height i gonna stick to google because it's more accurate even at long distance. And i still can make another catch to have some low distance or make real mesurement in real life like staircase to match. About buildings, i isolate one of them and resize a tiny bit according to google 2d high res map and rotate it, clean it a bit. Then i only isolate the floor and use the building tool to make floors and basics windows.
    So for my next project or someone who want to start from scratch and have super accurate things : Use this plugin for the road and buildings and to have a base terrain. Then import google map 2d satelitte high res for details and the 3d one to have a better terrain height. You can also for close detail use very localised 3d google map, it's very high res.
    And with the snaping and origin stuff it's super easy to align all of that in blender.

      I'd be careful with this as I believe this is against Google Maps' licensing requirements...

      There is an addon option "Max number of tiles" for the satellite imagery. Increase it (e.g. double it) to get a higher resolution of the satellite imagery. It's possible to get Google satellite imagery as well (though it's against Google terms of service): github.com/vvoovv/blender-osm/wiki/Documentation#custom-url

    I've been using osm for a while, but have never explored importing trees, etc. There are a couple (at least) of other ways to do this which yield similar but different results. GIS is sort of a simpler free version and using RenderDoc brings in a 3D map that can be edited if you have the time since it provides MANY vertexes and faces. I've used all three and have found that the RenderDoc method provides actual buildings, terrains, etc. but takes some editing to ensure the scene provides the detail you need for your camera view. Thanks for the tut.

    I've noticed that virtually none of the residential structures in my streetmap rectangle came up when I imported buildings. There were only a few structures which looked like they were maybe business/school buildings.
    Do you know why this might be?
    I only have the basic version. Is there an edit I can make that may include them where they have been excluded?
    Could the premium version include data sets for more of these basic structures?

    • @scorinth
      @scorinth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In certain areas, OSM data is very good. In others, it's nearly empty.
      This is just the nature of any crowdsourced database: You get data where people have put in the time to add that data. I've been active mapping my local town for about a week now, but even for a small area the number of houses to add can be pretty daunting if other people aren't helping you do it.
      The silver lining: You can contribute to the map yourself, if you want to! It's surprisingly easy!
