Bought my BRZ Ltd in 2012 - one of the first to arrive in my Tri-State. Put over 138k miles on it and my only out of pocket expenses were tires, brake pads, rotors, wipers, and a timing belt. Everything else was covered by the extended warranty I purchased. Items that warranty covered were a front seat cover replacement from premature wear, taillight (filled up with water), front DRL (filled up with water), replacement rubber seal on driver side window, and a new locking mechanism on the driver door because it wore out at 68k miles - just 2K miles of the extended warranty expiring. Mods I added were the STI aero kit, 18” Enkei Raijin wheels, 245/35-18 Michelin Pilot 4AS tires, LED bulbs for the fog lights, smoked aftermarket taillights and some other small cosmetic changes. Best and most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Proudly passed it down to one of my kids. Sadly, this year and just shy of its 11th birthday, it was totaled when a speeding truck doing 75mph+ slammed into it when my wife was driving it. She was okay but shaken up. Airbag deployed. Looking to replace it with another BRZ. Can’t praise this car enough. Enjoyable to drive, even on long trips (12+ hours). And from experience, a very safe vehicle, too.
It’s truly a great commuter sports car. Especially on the used market where you will have money left over for mods to fix the torque dip. I can’t wait to see what the next gen has in store.
@@Xezthos Random commenter but i’ve driven the new BRZ, the power difference is noticeable and is exactly where it should’ve been when it first released 10 years ago. Other than that they handle almost the exact same. However i’m not a fan of the overall design, especially the all digital gauge cluster. Ik the first generation one was a bit too simple but it was perfect with the second gen (left and middle gauges, right side had small screen with stats). Rest of the interior is fine, looks very similar and some things are straight up better, but the exterior looks incredibly generic especially from the rear. Because of this you also can’t really find as many cosmetic aftermarket support, although there are still lots of performance mods, most of which are usable from the previous gens.
The FRS/BRZ/86 (2013 to 2021) is probably the most reliable sports car ever made. Even at 70,000 miles, the car looks clean and probably performs like most cars do at 10k miles. Do you still have it?
The reason why people say BRZs are the best is becoz of the interior. BRZs (but not all) come with volume control on the steering wheel, a partial screen in the speedometer and some even coms with a better and more expensive type of air con controls along with red stitching... I think that's the reason. Comparing those interior features to the FRS, it seems as if Scion is a cheaper variant.

I am in my mid 50s, have a 2013 FRS now dedicated as a track car as well as a stock 2018 GT86 in the garage now. Having had gone through buying several teenagers their first cars and all that comes with that experience, I would definately not suggest it be anyone's First car. Perhaps the first car they purchase themselves hopefully as the have matured a bit as a driver. Ideal first self purchase for a young guy who no doubt will be quickly on ebay replacing lights and exhaust so to individualize it away from a stock look and sound. I just bought the cheapest 2013 in salt lake last month. Was 2k less than the next comparable one. It had 5 owners but a service history for all the oil changes and general maintenance so I pulled the trigger knowing that I was going to need to replace the blown shocks all around and the blown rear driver strut mount. Just slapped some HKS coils on there with new end links and front end refresh with inner\outer tie rods as well as ripped the crappy clapped out ricey sounding exhaust off. Replaced it with a BLITZ Nur spec exhaust and lve the sound. Quiet until you get on it with no drone. Then since I could actually hear my car when I changed the exhaust I could hear the dreaded throw out bearing issue that plagues early model frs\brs cars. So I am just having the whole clutch replaced with the upgraded unit and flywheel. Not doing that in my garage though my big ass barely was able to get under the car enough to swap the exhaust from the header back! Absolutely adore these cars. @@operator9858 I hated the idea too, however a new car was in my future at the time. Also a compromise had to be made for (no manual drivin) my wife. I read the specs for scions auto trans in 2010 and there was NO difference from the auto and manual except the trans control module with paddle shifter. My only question then was would it "hold" a gear at high rpm or would it "safty switch" down like the rest of toyota's cars. Yeti whoever told you that is smoking something strong... my 2020 BRZ gets around 33 highway and ~26 city. They designed this car to be efficient, even putting Prius tires (not a bad thing) on it to save every last drop. That’s pretty important because you’ll be putting 93 octane in there, which will make your wallet bleed if prices (knock on wood) ever hit 2012 levels again. Insurance isn’t too bad, there is a reason this car has “backseats.”
I’m 15 now always wanted this for a first car dads very unsure on it because of how much horsepower it has any tips you could give him to convince him to get me the car
@@poppinxxbobaq873 probably the fact you won't know how to control a rwd drive if it spins out in the rain but that just means you want to put good tyres on or do some form of skid control

We owned a 2013 FRS as we had several teenagers in the household with their own, more practical cars. From the several occasions that they borrowed the FRS I realized how glad I was that I had not bought one for them. GPS tracker let me know that right off the bat they were responding to their friends challenges of "That looks fast, let's see if it will beat my car" or "I hear they put Prius tires on them so they can drift around corners better ... let's find out" When asked how shoe prints got on the back headliner, they stated it was from getting two people in the back seat. Teenagers will be teenagers... It is a great young persons "typically guys" car who will be spending every spare dollar on customizing it with replacement lights and exhaust as such parts are plentiful on ebay. As silly and impractical as it is, something most of us did at that age.

Sinclair Photos not bad at all, i pay $300 for my 2002 Camry which is a little too much but idk, i really like this car but i heard that the gas is terrible and that insurance with just liability is like $500 and up
Yeti whoever told you that is smoking something strong... my 2020 BRZ gets around 33 highway and ~26 city.
@@Ispeedymg this didn’t age well at all
I’m 15 now always wanted this for a first car dads very unsure on it because of how much horsepower it has any tips you could give him to convince him to get me the car
Realistically the horsepower isn't the issue
Robert Szigyarto what is
@@poppinxxbobaq873 probably the fact you won't know how to control a rwd drive if it spins out in the rain but that just means you want to put good tyres on or do some form of skid control
Robert Szigyarto is there a way to change the drivetrain on it like Forza
@@poppinxxbobaq873 be realistic there's always a way to change whatever you want on the car but you won't have the money to do so it would be cheaper to not flog the car in the rain and have good tyres on the car/do a lesson on learning to control the car. Also sorry for the late reply.
Shoulda been a manual
I wouldnt get anywhere in the winter if that was my first car let alone only car
Dope review. Thanks man.
Really thinking about getting one but I’m scared of the recall stories I’ve heard have u had any problems with that yet?
alex brown I just posted a video on how to check that you just have to look up your vin and check if it was affected or not
Is insurance really expensive? How much do u pay for insurance for it?
Where did you get the lip?
That townelake view tho
its beautiful
I subbed only because you own a twin like mine.
I have seen many 86/frs for under 10k in my area but the brz is always likw 12k
I like this but I don’t want a 0-60 time slower than a camry
Better off getting the Wrx. It’s awd turbo and starts at 26k brand new.
Supreme Media I feel like that is a good option but the FRS has my heart
Supreme Media the 86 would smack it on any track tho
WRX driving a fast car slow, BRZ driving a slow car fast.
where i live the wrx is quite a bit more expensive than a brz/86 and i’d rather a coupe for my needs than a sedan
The title of my car calls mine a Toyota frs
How do you check fuel economy on a brz???
inspection sticker...4-20...nice
Lovely car
Is this a good first car for an 18 year old 👀
Alan Covarrubias i would say so it’s just a great car all around
Yes I got mine when I was 17 I am now 18 best daily driver just tough to fit 4 people in the back
We owned a 2013 FRS as we had several teenagers in the household with their own, more practical cars.
@@robertszigyarto7400 Is your insurance high?
@@robertszigyarto7400I can barely fit 2 in the back how r u doing 4
How much would you guys price a 40T km 86?
What about a frt for frs, brz, and Toyota
Im pretty sure the frs is the cheaper option even though they all are pretty similar
wait so the frs,gt86 and brz and 3 different cars i thought they were the exact same with same components
