I recently did this to make a Franken-blush. The original was way too pigmented so I mixed it with a face powder. To get everything finely milled I used a clean spoolie. It’s my favorite way to Cush up power products!
Am I the only one who finds repressing so satisfying? Even if I’m sad when something breaks, I’m always kind of excited to see how the formula represses. ✨
OOOOOH, LADIES!! I just got my Walgreens delivery of my Almay trio shadows. Of course, the dummy who picked/packed my order just threw it in an unpadded envelope. A crumbling mess.😡 This was such an easy fix -- and FUN. Makeup is too pricy to toss, nowadays. I didn't like the highlight shade, it was too yellow, needed something a bit more 'pinkish'. SO - I scraped the original powder, along with a few scraping off a L'Oréal blush for the pinky tone. And I added some neutral powder to lighten it -- I used Dermablend setting powder. I pushed the mix through a small, fine sieve several times to get it very fine, like powdered sugar. A few drops of the alcohol to get a paste the consistency of cake frosting. Came out perfect!!
Oh goodness! I so needed this a few months ago, but still very useful!! Even the hard pan part!! thankyou so much. I have been told to use alcohol, but never been explained how to. Which, in my head meant spraying rubbing alcohol on them somehow and I just couldn't make it work in my head. I'm not a complete idiot, lol, but it never occurred to me that I could take it all out and remix and that it would actually re-press back together. Thankyou so so much!! you just saved me so much waste on some very loved items!!! Many blessings! (Would always love more random tips like this..makeup, skincare, shopping related, care and lasting ability, etc....)
Great tips, thanks Sarah 💗 I added a few drops of alcohol to a cream eyeshadow but watching this I probably needed to press the excess liquid out at the end 🤭
I loved this! I've repressed many a shadow but I've never done it quite like this. I never thought to use a ramekin - I always just keep it right in its pan! I will definitely try your techniques next time I need to repress something. 🥰
@@SarahRoseBeauty I also used a fork this last time and it was a green Klarity shadow (super pigmented) that broke that I was trying to repress...I made a MESS and I also must not have gotten all the shadow off the fork when I washed it and my boyfriend ended up using it last night and was like "Why is there makeup on this fork?!?!"
Sarah, I love your soothing voice. Relaxes me. Thank you for this video. It just help me relax. I know this isn't a makeup video suggestion, but I'd love it if you read a book. Hehehe.
Thank you so so much, Sarah! This was really helpful. 💜 Also, for anyone in the US trying to re-press a regular round, 26mm eyeshadow pan, I think a quarter is the perfect size to get in there for the actual pressing! For smaller pans, I wonder if a nickel might work? I have no clue, but it's worth a check. 😊
I think I might have used too much alcohol when I did this last year because I got hard pan all over 😔 I'm also excited to see your future project pan updates now with the repressed pans😊
What a great idea to pan-up loose shadow! I would add something neutral, like Dermablend setting powder. I use it when I needed to lighten up a too dark shade.@@brandikennedy3405
So glad you made this video! I just ordered an eyeshadow pallet and one shade came broken. It’s such a hassle to return it so I thought maybe I could try to re-press the broken shade. I was wondering if you just had to wait until the next day to use the shadow or does it take longer than that ? Tfs! ❤️
I noticed that your voice goes up at the end of your sentences like you’re answering a question. I’ve taught customer service for many, many years and it’s a hard habit to break, but it’s not impossible:)
I use a spray bottle with the alchohol in it to prevent too much in it. I used too much my first time just pouring it out. Has been great with the spray bottle.
I love how we all have weird tools that just work. I have a little muji drawer with weird small screwdrivers and stuff and I often wonder what people would think that drawer of weird pointy implements was for LOL :0) xx
Thank you for making this video!! I have a quick question actually: How do you repress something in a thin pan if you can't find an object that matches the width of the pan? I'm thinking about that because I have a Joah palette that has quite thin pans width-wise and I'm not sure I can find anything to match... Thanks again!
I think it should be fine if you just press with your fingers! Try to press as evenly across the pan as you can until you don't see any alcohol on your paper towel. That should work for most formulas :)
@@hayls1075 I know this was 2 years ago and probably irrelevant to you by now🙃 but I just have to say something in case someone stumbles across this video and has this same question. I would suggest not using setting spray instead of rubbing alcohol. Yes some say they use it and it works for them and I know some who say it didn't. I've tried it myself on a few emails just to see for myself if it worked and if it did how often. The reason I would suggest to only use rubbing alcohol is because there's a wide variety of other ingredients in setting spray that could change the formula of the eyeshadow, pressed powder, blush, or whatever you're trying to save. Since there are many different ingredients in every brands setting spray I think it's the reason why some people have luck using it and others don't cuz the formula of the powder may or may not work well with what's in the setting spray. Which could turn the final result either patchy, sheer, doesn't have the same pigment as before, the shimmers are dull, doesn't stay long on the lid, doesn't blend with other shadows, dry, and whatever else you could think of that's not something you'd want your powder to do. So when I decided to find out for myself, I used a few different setting sprays(UD All Nighter, Fix+, Photofinish) and they each did change the eyeshadows in some way. I found that using a setting spray that contains Alcohol did work and the shadow fine, but it did change the formula slightly so just keep that in mind. I do suggest not using a setting spray that doesn't contain alcohol because when alcohol is not an ingredient, the setting spray contains more hydrating ingredients that definitely changed the powders to a point where I personally thought it was unusable having a few or all of the negatives I mentioned before. Also if you don't have either setting spray or rubbing alcohol, I have been able to just dry press powders. By just doing these steps minus the liquid. Just try and press a little harder, but keep in mind that this way won't be nearly as secure as pressing it with alcohol. Cuz it may crumble again at some point.
It's not just the darker shades that shatter, I had one of the light mattes and one of the shimmers shatter. It's just an extremely soft and delicate formula
I like to use an eyedropper for the alcohol and I use a nickel or quarter that I have already sterilized, wrap it in cheesecloth, press into shadow firmly for a few seconds. Let dry for 1 day
The first time I tried to repress something I didn’t have isopropyl alcohol and thought hydrogen peroxide might work instead and let me tell you it does not, that powder was ruined, unsalvageable, this is a psa for anyone reading DON’T use hydrogen peroxide 😣
Ok, so what if I repressed my setting powder too tightly?? Like nothing comes off of the pressed powder now because I packed it so tightly I believe. Is there any fix for this??
I'm guessing you're using too much alcohol, making it too runny. Aim for a consistency of cake frosting. Also, get the powder as fine as possible, like powdered sugar. No chunks! I've done this several times, and came out great!

Alcohol really isn't needed.if u crumble it all up and spread it out use a back off a spoon to spread it out and press it into place and smooth over does a better job and keeps the testra off it rather then having it weakend and wet and damp this way keeps the testra off it and won't be damp horrible.does better Job then alcohol I did it with my becca highlighter and trust me I won't use alcohol on mine did amazing what I did.

Thank you for this tip. I dropped my favorite Chanel blush compact and was so happy to see this. Gonna try it now!!
Ahh such a bummer when that happens! Good luck!
Sarah, this was so helpful since you had 3 different products to demonstrate. Great video!
I'm so glad to help!!
so satisfying to watch! also would have never thought of the tape trick- very clever
Thank you!!
This is a lot more meticulous than my usual technique - and it shows in the results. Great tips!
Thank you for watching!!
I'm watching this to fix my ELF rosewater palette too! And yes, the darkest color. To be fair, I did drop it but it's the only one that broke.
Learned something new, will be sure to give the tape trick a try when cleaning my palates.
Hope it helps!! ❤️
My elf quad did the same thing with a different shade!
They are super fragile!!!
All I’m thinking now is CUSTOM SHADES. 😉

My bottle of alcohol doesn’t have a tiny opening so I use a 1 ml syringe to pull out small amounts of alcohol at a time.
Well done!
Genius!!!
I put mine in a shot glass and use a straw to drop it in😂
