@@Miourekkai i think he means china will win easily. there are some reason for this. DPP has basically damage the ROCA chain of command by allowing officer to skip bond. the end result is alot of ROCA doctor, pilot and other skilled personal are lure by big salary in mainland private sector and they basically quit the force. now they are talking about restoring conscription but i feel it might be too late even if they somehow fine the political will to defend the island. opinion poll shown most taiwanese will not willing to fight for taiwan.
also western media tend to overplay "china's enemies", even japan is unlikely to side against china as china is japan's biggest export destination as well as the fact that japan has a secret desire to normalise itself. it need a strong china to justify this politically so we are likely to see japan make it a political issue and remilitarise then to weaken the threat of china. japan simply do not wish to remain a US puppet so they need an excuse, if US fail to defend Taiwan, that would be the excuse they need to say they can't trust US ability to defend them.
regardless i don't see war between the mainland and taiwan as beijing already believe it has won and thus it is only a matter of time. china is only going to get stronger, the longer they wait, they more advantageous it is for them. they are entirely fine with taiwan self-rule so long at they still hold de jure soveighty over the island. while DPP has boasted about amending the constitution to make taiwan a country, they have no done so and it is unlikely they will ever do so given their anti military stance... buying military hardware without the personnel to manned them won't really do anything, it is political costly to tell taiwan parents their kids need to fight for taiwan.

Something I'd like to point out are that Chinese troops spend time doing ideological training (instead of more combat training). Oh, and China's anti-corruption campaigns are political purges. Also - this is with US forces, there's already a carrier (the USS Ronald Regan) in Japan - and it may go the way previous invasion attempts happened. China prepares to attack and the US places ships in the Taiwan straight, forcing China to either attack them or call off the invasion.

Invading Taiwan would definitely come at a huge cost for China whether they ultimately succeeded or not. That's assuming the USA or Japan doesn't get into position a lot sooner to assist with counter-attacks. Civil unrest would definitely be one of China's primary downfall. A few other considerations would be 1) economic sanctions hampering the economy which fuels more unrest, 2) countries like VN or PH don't start making moves of their own on the disputed islands. I'm curious to see how North Korea or Russia would behave during this.

@Ru paul no nuclear power has fought each other. crimea is point example, if US and NATO isn't going to intervene in crimea that is right on their doorstep, they are not going to intervene in china. especially since both US and EU still recognise Taiwan as chinese territory, they really have no legitimacy to intervene in the chinese civil war.

    • @lagrangewei
      @lagrangewei 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Ru paul neither does taiwan. taiwan is not a country. ROC is. taiwan as it stand now is a colony of ROC.
[ And besides America has made Taiwan there line in the sand for sino relations over the last 70 years ]
if that is so US would not have ended it recognition of ROC. remember, the one china policy was not started by PRC, it was started by ROC to keep PRC out of the UN. your so call "70 years policy" is a policy of US recognising only one china, the change is only which government it recognise as legit.
furthermore, ROC has never had a peace treaty with PRC so they are already in a state of war. if US isn't going to intervene 70 years ago when they are stronger then PLA, they are not going to do it it against a PLA that has the ability to destory all 50 US state capitol. the risk of a nuclear war that can destory both country is too great. China has to defend it soverighty, while Taiwan to the US is just a client. if US can abandon vietnam and ukraine, they can abandon taiwan. it is simply not a core interest of US no matter how u spin it.
beside, taiwanese has no interest to fight. public opinion poll show less than 20% of taiwanese are willing to take up arm and fight the PLA should the PLA land. are American willing to fight and die when the people they are fighting for ain't even going to fight?
this war is simply not one about america, regardless of how "determine" america is, it really doesn't matter.

If you think China could successfully invade Taiwan, consider that Taiwan is about 100 miles from China. England is about 20 miles from France. The last time England was successfully invaded and conquered was 1000 years ago - and it's just 20 miles to cross the English Channel. Crossing 100 miles of the open sea would require total control of the air and sea or your invasion force will be making a one way trip. Facing submarines, jet fighters, missile batteries and coastal artillery, I doubt any Chinese soldier would ever set foot on Taiwanese soil.

Though, the other way around, France has already been, well, not "invaded and conquered" from England but liberated as/when it was german.
Ok, granted, the saboteurs were on the side of the liberators, and so were the civilians, but attrition of german forces played the largest part, as even across Atlantic ocean, the highly dependable powerhouse US logistics and supply chain overwhelmed the germans.
I'd say most modern wars are played even more on the economics/attrition than pure combat tactics.
With nowadays technology 100 miles aren't this far and China could, well, obviously not "easily" win, but outpower in the long run, if those were only two isolated countries on Earth.
But with international communities and treaties, and also strategic alliances/shared interests with the free world nations, as stated in this video, it's a realistic bet that support to Taiwan and some isolation of China would turn the tides in favor of Taiwan.

United States, quite clearly and obviously very far ahead. Undoubtably first by any measure.
United Kingdom, currently the only other navy with a super carrier commissioned, second if not single most experienced in naval warfare from the last 40 years. Best trained military in the world.
France, on a par with Britain in many areas such as major surface combatants (both have their strengths, but are of a similar size and generally similar technological level). One of the only nations with functional aircraft carrier, particularly one nuclear powered, utilising catapults.
China, conceptually one a similar if not greater scale to Britain/France, particularly with the planned carriers.
That said, they had next to no real combat experience in terms of experience with naval warfare or even just experience with naval operations as a whole, being the only one of the three that is restricted to its local water
