Everywhere, it seems like Hispanic males really were impressed with the idea of ROTC and the military. Maybe because of 1) getting more fit and 2) being able to afford travelling (getting away from a rural area).
What hurts about Hispanics looking away from tennis is how my area has those rare handball walls means that there were no financial barriers in order to work at becoming a tennis coach in K-12.
The area I'm in now is pretty segregated. The nearby high school basically had 100% of the tennis students and coaches be Asian, and Hispanics would either play 1) football, 2) soccer, or 3) basketball.
I'm Nadal's fan since many years ago, extraordinary tennis player, notwithstanding his English language is getting worse every day, lousy but understandable.
The problem is Spain in general, and the people's attitude toward foreign languages, specially English. (not saying Nadal is like that). But generally speaking, people in Spain are not very open minded and tend to reject English or anglisisms in their daily lives, and their screwed up education system, even today, does not teach English at an acceptable level to the kids in the schools.. if you want a bilingual education for your kids, start saving to take them to a private school. Also, it's hard to explain, but the Castilian Spanish spoken in Spain, is like an embedded mental straitjacket, and their tongue is like a piece of steel welded to their language. The few people here who "speak" english do it very poorly and with a very strong unpleasant accent.. obviously, due to their economic woes in the last decade, they've had to accept how wrong they've been, as people have had no choice but to migrate, and accept that without English you can't go too far..
