    Two youngsters are boarding the "Nostromo." What will these young ones make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? 3:23 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 5:38 Recent viewers have described the derelict alien ship as either "the Devil's Horseshoe" or "a Forbidden Doughnut.";) 5:46 The Space Jockey, a mystery for years. 6:55 The first jump scare. 7:19 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 7:38 The Face Hugger and Acid Blood. 8:58 A Props Dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 9:57 Kane's last meal. 10:33 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 11:48 Along came Jones. 13:01 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 14:08 You're in command, Ripley. 14:30 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 15:27 Most didn't see this coming. 17:15 I've read that Lambert is standing in for us, the audience. 18:43 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 22:05 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 22:35 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver a major movie star. On to "Aliens" (1986)!

    there was no cgi in 1979 movies. it was all practical sets and scale models.

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah sorry for the confusion! we meant that they also used darkness to make the practical effects look better and cover some parts of them that wouldn't perhaps look as highly detailed similarly to how movies later on used and still use darkness to cover for lack of detail in CGI. Not that this movie used CGI.
      Although CGI was first used in 1958 by Alfred Hitchcock in Vertigo so it did exist back then already. But yeah it wasn't used in this movie.
      Thanks for watching!

    At about 20:19 - they talked about "the cool ship" -- that's the shuttle. Remember Lambert suggested it and Ripley reminded her that the Shuttle wouldn't take four. After Ash, they decide that yes, they can now take the shuttle, since they're down to three. Watch the movie again: the script takes care of a number of your questions.

      We will definitely watch the movie again! I imagine we missed a lot, it's hard to catch everything on first viewing especially when reacting haha

    The Derelict is a wonderful design. Idk why you want it to look like a human built spaceship. Its design is literally alien to us.

      @johncase2408 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Scott and Giger were on the same wavelength. Good point! The ship evokes an even more experience of what is alien. The old cliche flying saucer would've been dumb.

      @TheGeekheads  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the confusion. We just wondered why in general alien spaceships in a lot of movies seem to look and work completely different to how our human spaceships work since they still work under the same laws of physics. Not that Derelict doesn't look good or that it should look like a human built!😅

    13:25 In the Director's Cut. Ripley and Parker run in to the room, in time to see Bret being carried away.

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for letting us know! Yeah I think that would've been a good idea to show in the movie, but they probably thought that them mentioning seeing it is enough.
      Now I want to watch the directors cut haha!

      @ it features the scene where after Ripley sets the ship to explode. She enters the Alien’s nest, and encounters both Bret and Dallas.

  • @melenatorr

    At about 18:50 - Ah, shame on you! The cat always matters!
    Bear in mind that this crew is not a crew of scientists, but have been described as "truckers in space". You can tell that Dallas is somewhat burnt out. They are singularly unprepared for the events that happen here and the company members who decided on this move probably took that into account. The true villain of this movie is the company.

    The first and by far the best Alien movie.

    horror genre has changed a lot over the last 45 years. in 1979 this was def a sci-fi horror. and it's a lot scarier when you go in blind and see it in a theater. on tv it loses a but of fear factor.
    i wouldnt say it's too confusing. they're a civilian crew heading home. they got re-routed to new coordinates and the android was directed to retrieve the alien. they having standing orders to investigate possible life forms. it got loose and killed them all. ALIENS, the sequel is a must watch and further develops the aliens.

      It's not confusing at all. The movie tells you everything you need to know. They just overthink or underthink things.

    Jones, also referred to as Jonesy, was a cat kept aboard the USCSS Nostromo as Ellen Ripley's pet. While the cat's official purpose was to control rodents aboard the ship, he also served as a source of relaxation and entertainment for the crew like a therapy animal. So, this was the reason why a cat was brought into outer space.
    Yeah, see the difference between them and me I'll pass up my paycheck I'll go get a new job I'm not putting my life at risk for exploring an unknown world and secondly as soon as I saw that face hugger on that guy's face, I would have been gone I would have stolen the shuttle and left with a cat.
    The Spaceship gets explained in Prometheus which is the origin and the start of all of these movies.
    Alien Movies in (Chronological) Order
    AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) ...
    Aliens' vs Predator: Requiem (2007) ...
    Prometheus (2012) ...
    Alien: Covenant (2017) ...
    Alien (1979) ...
    Aliens (1986) ...
    Alien 3 (1992) ...
    Alien Resurrection (1997)
    And now they've added the new one that just came out.

      I couldn't leave my pet behind either if I'd leave to long space travel.
      And I'm with you, the very first second I saw the alien I'd have gotten the hell out of there lol!
      Thanks for watching!

    Please elaborate on what confuses you about this movie. As noted below, there was no CGI. Everything was practical. Do you really need to see that kind of detail as to getting the gun, etc.? Why? That, would, in fact, slow things down.

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Can't speak for Crossroads (guy on the right) on that, I personally didn't find it confusing. As to the CGI I don't think we ever said anything about CGI being used in this movie, we know there wasn't. But if it sounded like we did then our bad, we might have misspoken then.
      I'm not sure what part do you mean by detail of getting the gun? One of us didn't like the pacing overall and felt it was too inconsistent. Me on the other hand liked it. Just differing opinions, that's all :)
      Thanks for Watching!

      @@TheGeekheads please take it as constructive criticism :) think what you want to say before you say it... then you'll pause less, giving you less chance to fill the pause with a "like."
