Gotta love those Bowser stages in this game, they were certainly some of the best Bowser stages in any mario game, or at least in my opinion (Bowser's Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey is a close fourth though)
The reason Mario turns in angles on the slides is because he wants to face the direction you're pressing but also has to follow the direction of the slope
At 0:44 thats probably the first time I've heard him legit laugh and not like a chuckle or the same laugh he always does when like something would happen on stream or videos...
You should have started at BITS boss fight, beat bowser and then die to appear outside the level. Do that for all bosses and move back through every star and every course until you reach BOB and eventually go outside the castle and hack in a warp pipe you can jump inside for the end screen
SimpleFlips should have given you orders a little bit earlier to accommodate for reaction time. I caught on to that like 10 seconds into the first level. I think NB needed a better navigator.

Actually, a backwards backwards long jump is called a simpleflip.
From experience of doing the slides backwards, it's always good to groundpound to reangle yourself when you find yourself veering off.
