Maybe it was the bm3 my friend... good luck. not trying to scare you, but that's how mine started. misfire in cylinder 1, ended up manifesting into a very rough idle and the car would stall and died at a stop. Ended up that I needed to replace my motor. Piston ring in cylinder 1 was not holding compression. turns out that my jb4 overboosted to 25 psi and blew the Rings. definitely get a leakdown test for sure to make sure. I had the option of rebuilding the motor, but it would have been just as expensive as my mechanic could replace it. I have a brand new motor at 54,000 miles. Godspeed. I'll have a video out about it in a week or so.
Great stuff, I think my N20 never went over 19psi which means it was never over boosted. A bad misfire that is never treated can lead to a bad cylinder, that's what happened to me.
Does misfires throw check engine light? I'm asking because bimmerlink is counting misfires on all 4 cylinders after hard pulls but the car feels great to me with no rough idle. I already gapped new sparkplugs and no codes are appearing.
That's what happened to me, but I never changed the Sparks, I assumed that BMW did and that lead to serious issues with my cylinders. If you swapped out the sparks, check your coilpacks and ensure they are solid. If you are still getting misfires, then clean your injectors.
I hope by now you had figured it out, misfires are caused by a bad coil pack or spark plug. If it’s not those, then I would take it to BMW asap before you blow the engine due to a cylinder scaring.
I spoke with u earlier on IG. You did put me at ease a bit, but I did discover that the 328i has Forged Pistons, the 320 doesn’t. That’s something that has to be looked into in my opinion. If you look up the spec sheets you will see that the part numbers for the pistons are different. If the engineers thought that stronger pistons would be needed on the 328, I would think it’s safe to assume that they did that for a reason?!? Maybe it isn’t just a ECU Limitation that separates those two engines? 🤔
That's true but forged pistons go in high hp cars like 400 and up I don't think 260-280 would be a problem, and the piston would have to be messed up to put grooves in the cliender wall. You can blame the piston if so but he didn't say the piston was hurt and I know when you put the cleaner in your tank all that crap gets burnt up in cliender like old gas and gunk but if it's miss firing I guess in compressed it all and didn't got out the exhaust and scratch the wall.
I have put in injector cleaner in a 96 Tahoe I use to have and my truck ran like crap tell it circulated out, idk I was also told never run a car empty on gas cuz the stuff at the bottom of the tank is bad for the motor and I'm guessing the cleaner broke all that up in is car and cuased that problem alone with no spark
This is great and that may be the case with some 328i's, but, in my case the pistons were fine. All my issues were caused because of a bad spark + octane booster + WOT moments that lead the cylinders to go bad.
Is it okay to drive a f30 2018 320i the spark plugs are switched only one cylinder miss fired is and when the car is on it shakes sometimes is it okay to drive a 2 hour drive I’ve drove it for 2 hour and I’m wondering if it’s okay to drive it back 2 hours
My brothers f30 328i has 70k miles. Misfiring like a bitch, I changed his spark plugs and put in new coils just now. Now change at all. Am I looking for fuel problems now? Like the high pressure fuel pump? He had misfire in cylinder 4 but now he has it in 1,3,4
Well I would first check your tune, see if you’re getting misfires without it or not. If it continues, it may be your motor not accepting the extra “push”.

I don’t trust those one size fits all Tunes. With the N20 engine I believe many parts, including the pistons should be upgraded if you plan on tuning.
