- First ever fast 8-# in Glitchless 8-4 IL! This run is now perfected in all rooms except 2nd room, which still has 3 frames until absolute perfection with a really stupid coinblock climb strat. I didn't do 2nd room FFA because it doesn't actually save any time if you play the room without slowing down at all (shoutouts to KingOfJonnyBoy for finding this RTA viable setup). There is still a frame to save in 2nd room with the same strats and a cleaner coinblock climb, and KingOfJonnyBoy recently found frame 160 and 159 setups, which are 2 and 3 frames faster than this run's 2nd room respectively, but they are incredibly difficult. I would like to at least push this to 8-0 + 2 and be 1 frame off of TAS tie before I'm fully done because getting 8-1 + 2 seems to be a lot harder than 8-4 IL TAS tie with glitches. This now lowers the human sum of best down to a 5:02.535, 3 frames away from the TAS of 5:02.485!

Imagine being neighbour with Niftski. And every time a record is broken you can hear him shouting "OMG! No way" through the walls, which is basically every couple of days.

Idk, cuz the game has been turned inside and out. Maybe humans will find a way to manipulate subpixel positions to save a frame in Second or third room, tho it’s prob never gonna happen

i feel like getting pushed back by the invisible block for the coinblock climb and using the coin toss frame for the pipe in the double fast accel room should be considered glitches imo

I'm sure someone's answered this, but how exactly is FA/DFA/FFA "glitchless"?
If fast accels were considered glitches, then grabbing the top of the flagpole would be considered a glitch too because you're higher up on the flagpole, which makes Mario accelerate faster to the castle. I asked the same question in the Super Mario Speedrunning (8-bit) Discord server a year or two ago.
@@TheNoSwearGuy And now that I think about it, fast acceleration is part of the intentional physics engine. It's just used in unintended ways, just like mob farms in Minecraft are not a glitch.
My understanding is that flagpole glitch is "just programmed in," so it's technically not a glitch either, but it doesn't matter because the wall clip is a glitch.

Fast acceleration requires that he hold left on one frame, then right on the next.
On a controller, this is a simple flick, two frame perfect inputs.
On keyboard, you have those same two frame perfect inputs, but due to left and right being separate keys, you now have to frame perfectly let go of left, which was done for you automatically on a controller. If you don't do this, Mario will just stand in place.
So instead of two frame perfect inputs, you have to do three on keyboard.

My best guess is that it only saves a fraction of a frame in the general case, so it might save 0 or 1 frames depending on the situation; here, it saves 0 frames. It's not framerules so much as "pixelrules."
