Excellent suggestions. With all the heavy gear us prospectors need just for getting gold, is. Hammer, chisel, crevices tools, it's important to pack everything as light as possible. Really dig this top five (6 with Paracord.) I also always take a small basic first aid kit and extra medications (if needed.) Awesome video! 👍

Thanks bro! First aid always! Have to add some whiskey to that package, fixes everything!

This was awesome man, I'm curious to learn more about lightweight gear, matter's even more for prospectors cause we've got to bring the mining gear too!

Most excellent presentation. The best item I see here is the water purifier. The big part of the weight issue is packing water with all the rest of my gear. It's a must have item for long hikes we take while prospecting the river's. Kinda spend but worth it to the serious prospector. Thanks for the equipment review Bro. 🇺🇸👍😎⛏🗽

Thanks Geno! Water purification is always #1!!! Hope you enjoy it if you get one! The brand of Katadyn has a few different types but I found this one to be the quickest as well as best option, especially for connecting to my Nalgene directly. Makes life a lot easier where you don't have to hold two things at once!

Good video dude with useful info.
    Question for you-
For 2 prospectors heading over to the North west USA from the UK one ex Vet with survival skills 1 switched on civi.
Should we be thinking of carrying bear spray when out prospecting your back yard?
What’s the best thing to carry for poison Oak?
What else should we be thinking about?
I ask this as we do not have any threat levels of this kind here in the UK

      Thanks a lot man!
1.) Absolutely carry bear spray, Amazon has counter assault which you can buy at the link below. Only problem is you cant fly with it (even with a checked bag) so I suggest you find an address at your hotel or a P.O. Box to send it to around the area you are going to!

Poison Oak depending what section of the northwest you are traveling too is very common. I like using IvyX which the link for is below. This is good stuff and cheap. I just recommend that you wear long pants when hiking through woods and also not a bad idea to wear long pants when on the water unless of course you are getting in the water! Reason being is rattlesnakes love the warmth of the rocks up here in the northwest and they blend in really well to the surroundings. Always stay the hell away from snakes when you see them and don't mess with them. Most of the time they will leave you alone if you leave them alone. Something really cool I recently learned is the length a rattlesnake is able to strike compared to body length. Rule of thumb is 1/3 distance strike for body length. So if you run into a 3 foot rattlesnake it is able to strike roughly 1 foot from its sitting point!

Which brings me to your last question. Anything else to recommend would be to for sure plan accordingly with weather. The northwest loves to shift between hot and cold temps so make sure water and food is adequate as well as clothing. Sometimes in mornings I wear a hoodie but by lunch time I'm in the water getting wet to cool down! Its crazy here! But absolutely gorgeous.
Where are you two going exactly?
Let me know if you have any other questions.
