- We’re taking a quick trip to Sydney for the Australian Manufacturing Week expo and we also check out the Sydney harbour bridge, opera house and tour the National Maritime Museum! The Australian Manufacturing week is once a year and is a great opportunity to see the latest innovations in tooling and machinery for metal work and manufacturing. We had some spare time so decided to do a bit of sight seeing and walked to see the Sydney harbour bridge and opera house at night. The next day we decided to visit the National Maritime Museum which has a lot of historical displays and galleries. We got to go on board and explore the HMAS Vampire gun ship, HMAS Onslow submarine and the replica of Captain Cook’s HMB Endeavour ship. We hope you enjoy this travel vlog of our trip to Sydney!

I'm talking in general about adult youtubers not you, Kurtis. It suits only few people, like @Tom Scott or your compatriot @Beau Miles. Others often look comical.
Your normal, i.e. repair, videos have this specific atmosphere of intimacy - we really feel like special guests invited to your workshop. While "lifestyle" and other similar shit often shouts "montetization". I'm glad that you are aware of this and avoid that kind of youtube activity.

I too think Mrs. Cutting Edge does a good job on the voice-over and narration. More camera & voice time for Karen would be great. Karen, you might not know it, but you just made the best Video for this trade show on your own, your voicover voice is calm, clear, and as a bonus, it's not the first time you use those technical terms.
I also enjoyed the touristy part of the video, nice filming and nice information.
You could absolutely make more voiceovers professionally, especially in this field, but in general too, but someone needs to film Kurtis, edit out his blunders, and most importantly play with homeless, so you might not have time for that

The Sydney Harbor Bridge that Paul Hogan painted while doing his comedy show in the mid -'80's .My great grand father built a steam engine in the late 1800's in New Haven , Conn . It still operates today at a museum there .Loved the tour ,the harbor ,the show , I noticed a cockatoo while on the 'ships' tour , you could hear 'em in the background too . Thanks again .
I have visited Hobart, Sydney and Perth while in the US Navy. All were amazing and friendly places to see. I thoroughly enjoyed my times there.
Never got to Brisbane?, Mate if you haven't been to the Sunshine state you haven't seen Australia, ask any Queenslander 🙂

That was a fun surprise! I loved the tour through the museum. Naval history is so fascinating. I'm from the US but have sailed a tall ship out of Fremantle so it's really cool to see other big sailing ships that still go out!

It was great seeing you both in Sydney. Happy to see you both take some time out of your busy schedule to relax and take a breather. Karen, excellent voice over and narration. You need to do more of this, we could listen to you all day. Fun facts, the Haas machines shown at 4:39 and 8:34 are our machines going to Melbourne Polytechnic. We are also getting one of those robot arms and VF2 VMC 8:40 that young Travis from Haas was demonstrating. Funny to note that he was one of my high school engineering students back in 2012 LOL. Shame I didn't see you guys at the Sutton wine mixer on Wednesday night. Don't worry, I suffered the next day with a hangover for that 😂 Look forward to seeing you both in Melbourne next year. Another great video ..I'm from Sydney and my father was a highly skilled welding supervisor if he was still alive he would have loved your channel. As a apprentice and young boilermaker tradesman he worked on a couple of Daring class destroyers during their manufacture , they where fully welded construction much of it by hand. Years later in the mid to late seventies he was chosen to be welding supervisor on the on-site fabrication needed to assemble the Sydney Tower. You showed it in the video it was cutting edge metallurgy for it's time . The steel was a special alloy that's oxide was weatherproof requiring no painting for its entire lifetime. Most of the fabrication was done off site but he was involved in fitting and welding the individual barrel sections on site . Alll welds where 100% xray checked and he received a bonus on the end of the job as welding flaws where much less than they expected using new techniques and equipment. He also did alot of water board tanks and oil refinery tanks fully welded the horizontal welds where done both sides simulataously using a automatic welding device and submerged arc technology. All the vertical welds where done by hand stick welding the welding machines where Lincoln bullets 400amp for stick 800 amp for the submerged arc auto machines. I'm a sparky and as a young guy worked on some of the big Lincoln welding machines old but proven reliable for on site jobs. Anyway thanks for the video good to see you and your lady out of the workshop and enjoying Sydney.

It´s now 36 years ago that i´ve been to Sydney and 11 years that i´ve been to the Goldcoast. A lot of memories came into my mind watching your video. Guy's, thanks for taking us with you. As an ex weapons engineer in the RN i love taking tours of old iron like that and looking up the armourment of them. Those Mk48's are huge.

Most of Aus is exactly like that, just as the US is the opposite, not just the west coast...
Our capitals are well maintained. I noticed when I went to the states a few years ago, your infrastructure is terrible. It's like a 2nd world country (especially LA). I'm sure there are nice parts, but not so much on the west coast.
Wow, this brought memories BIG time! I was a student when I visited Australia back in 2008... Trip from Estonia to Cairns was 46 hours and 5 different flights. Then drove a camper van with my sister all the way down through Brisbane and ultimately to Sydney. Loved it!!! Thanks for sharing!
As someone who lives in Hawaii, it was interesting seeing the replica of Captain Cook's ship, the Endeavor. Thanks for taking us along on your travels.
I'm now 66 years. In my teens Darling Harbour was All railroad yards which serviced the country.

Cooks ship was of shallow draught originally used in Uk coastal waters for shifting coal, North sea,it made it easy to get in close to natural harbours and discover your great country

she was built as a collier called the Earl of Pembroke in Whitby
Cook picked what became the Endeavour for very good reason. He needed a ship that was tough to survive where he was going and he didn’t really know where that was. The Great Barrier Reef was nearly their undoing when he found they were trapped and ran onto the coral ripping a hole in the hull. They managed to get a sail round underneath and save their ship till they found a suitable place to get the ship out of the water and fix the damage. The Reef is about 200km out to sea at Gladstone and funnels down to nothing. He was a master mariner, he got them all home. Jeff

Very nice interesting video! I would also have liked to have made this trip to the tool fair! I had to laugh a little when I saw that Kurtis advertised two German tool manufacturers on his backpack and jacket when he left. By the way, Pferd is the German word for horse! For many Germans, if you ask them, Australia and Sydney is a lifetime dream to be able to vacation there. What probably prevents many is the mega long flight that lasts between 21-24 hours! It is silly to fly direct - stop off in Asia for a few days each way - low cost and awesome too!
@@johncoops6897 Yes, that would certainly be an alternative for me (54)! Especially since I have to fight really badly with fear of flying! A short stopover would definitely not be bad. But I think that I will certainly fulfill my dream in a few years. The great attraction is also to visit Australia at a time of the year when it is nice and warm. Summer starts here on June 21st, and we are already expecting temperatures of over 30 degrees here this coming weekend! But 25 degrees would be enough for me! Greetings from Bocholt (D)
@@blermule8692 - it's winter here in Sydney, overnight about 10C and daytime about 20C. I am only wearing Tshirts during the day.
It's a big country so other areas have different climate. The ski season just started, with 1m snow last week in the alps (no snow in non-mountain places). Spring and Autumn are the best, and mid summer Jan/Feb is not very nice!

Lived in Sydney way back in the early 70s after emigrating from UK, 10 Pound Pom.
Darling Harbour was then a working wharf. Visited again in the mid 90s and the harbour had been transformed. Loved the Maritime museum.
You missed the Power House museum. Well worth a visit the next time that you are in Syd. You can go there while the Missus goes shopping.

I used to live right next to the Sikorsky main factory in Stratford Connecticut. They flew Blackhawks over my house many many times a day.

I love lighthouses, as sailor. the glass shapes in the light house lenses with their bottom of the jam jar look are actual very advanced optics. Nikon uses phase fresnel lens now like the lens design known so long ago but machined perfect now with our ability to machine to finest tolerances

Interesting change of pace in this video. Sydney sure looks like a beautiful city. Most major cities in the US have gone to hell, being infested with aggressive bums/junkies living on the streets. I'm not sure how/why we allowed this to happen, but we did.
As governor DeSantis pointed out, Australia is an authoritarian state that has stripped it of freedom. The 60,000 COVID deaths in Florida more than Australia's is small price to pay for his protecting Florida's freedom, just as the thousands of firearm deaths of American children is a small price to pay to avoid the authoritarian firearm control in America.

Work and fun…that is a nice combination. Relax a bit after work. I have been to Sydney in the 90’s. Hope to visit again. My highlight a Concert at the Royal Opera House…having a beer outside during the break…I’ll never forget the visit!

Being fond of high quality gear myself, I can get lost for hours on end when around such a shop.
Or (back when they were still german) in a big WMF shop browsing for nice stuff... Funny when the sales rep approach you and offer "a coffee and biscuits while your wife does the shopping" and you respond "Nah, she's the one for the coffee, I'm the shopping queen" )

Thanks for the memories. I was there for your Navy Anniversary in either 1985 or 1986. The Sydney Bridge is jaw dropping amazing. I went across it 3 or 4 times and around the base of it on all side equally as many. Saw the Opera House, visited the local restaurants and had a famous Aussi beer or two. Went to the live zoo and heard the ?bell? birds as one of my most intriguing animals to see. During the Navy Anniversary there were ships from all around the World. My ship was the USS Blue Ridge LCC 19, the Oldest Active US Navy ship, except for Iron Sides which is a wooden ship with sails. Some day, I'll make another visit to Down Under.

Glad you didn't have to slum it in the King's Cross backpackers hostel! I met a guy who worked on that Endeavour replica. Many of the wooden treenails used to fasten the hull planking were made by school students.
Only flew in and out of Sydney on my many trips to Melbourne for business and I have to say... I love Australia! I had the opportunity on weekends to travel on the Great Ocean Road, trips to Philips Island, and all areas in between and I have to say the people are the friendliest and the scenery is exceptional. Especially the Great Ocean Road! My wife joined me for a weeks vacation on one trip and she feels the same. Great country and people.
Karen and Kurtis, thank you for sharing a wonderful video. Though I may never get to that part of the world you did a great job showing what is happening in Sidney. I love going and networking with the suppliers and seeing new technology at trade shows. It really gets the cogs spinning. A few months ago, I commented on how it was nice to see a little outside of the shop. You guys really took that to heart.
Living here in Banana Land, it's good to see what friends on the opposite and upside down of the Earth are doing and seeing. If there is any place I would live other than the States, it would be Australia. Such a beautiful and interesting place. ❤️
