I've heard the same thing from other creators. One creator even said he lost subscribers. I just think YT isn't giving the same visibility to some creators as it had been, and likewise giving higher visibility to other content - I've seen a lot of garbage in my feed that I have no interest in. Hang in there!
I think that there are some YT algorithm antics at play here. In the past few weeks it seems several other great YT photographers have had similar complaints. Hopefully this will just be some blip that will get corrected. Until then, I'll keep sending likes to YT until it gets its head/CPU straight.
I haven’t a clue as to how the YT algorithms work 🤔 but if you are being penalised despite the incredible content you put out Michael, then I feel sorry for anyone that has not built up a reputation yet. YT need to tread carefully otherwise they will shoot themselves in the foot. Quality over quantity any day in my opinion and you certainly provide it 👌👍📷

Haha trying not too, I really appreciate you saying that, thank you!. These videos are indeed a ton of work to make, most of my weekends are spent in the office trying to get these all wrapped up before Sunday. Unfortunately YT has not been all that kind to my channel recently, but hopefully that changes soon. I will definitely do my best to keep making these vlogs and keep the inspiration going, comments like his really help.

Always have to comment when a landscape photographer captures halo phenomena for the vicarious beauty of the scenes since my views of halos are in suburbia! Thank you for sharing! For anyone wondering, the "rainbow sundog" is a 22° halo with a hint of upper tangent arc (the bright spot at the top of the halo).

Michael, your videos are some of my favorite videos on YT. You strike an outstanding balance between creative process, educational elements, and wonderful images. Your video editing is fantastic and you do a wonderful job of making the viewer feel like they are on location with you. In my opinion the YT Gods are a bane to creativity. They push creators into narrower and narrower boxes where art becomes homogenous. Those who bring a unique voice and new ideas to creative fields are given significantly less exposure, while those who play the game get rewarded with more views. I completely understand the need for views and the financial implications of not playing the game, but I truly appreciate your creativity and how you chose to share it. Thank you for creating such superb content.

Amazing. In my opinion the last composition it would be nice to increase iso and reduce time exposure to get more lines on water. It seems the exposure time was a little longer than I would adopt

When you expressed doubts about the first photo, I was thinking “that rock on the bottom left balances it out though”. Immediately after, you said the same thing. I’m glad we’re in agreement.
Haha that’s cool that we went through the same thought process. I have bounced back and forth on whether I like the composition since I took it, every time I look I have a different feeling about it. Weirdly that makes me like it even more if that makes any sense?
@@MichaelShainblum - Part of what you, as a photographer, want is to have a photo that makes you or the viewer look at it. If you have different feelings/thoughts about an image every time you look at it, that helps accomplish that goal.

Thanks so much, Louis. I always appreciate your comments. I know it's really hard not to, but try not to compare your own shots with mine. I know that's a weird statement after you just watched a video tutorial about how I take my shots, haha. As long as you feel like you are progressing with your own work, that's what truly matters. Of course, if your comment was a bit of joking, you can ignore what I just said, too. But if you can look at images you took years ago and see improvements, that's a huge thing for an artist. Now, if you are like me and you look at stuff you did over 10 years ago, thinking, "Wow, how did I even take that? I couldn't make that now!" well, then it is a bit of a challenge mentally! 😂

Hey thank you so much for the support Ian!
The thing to do on sunrise/set is to do 5 at +/- 2EV and then blend in post and use the clear night filter for astro. IF you want a very light full frame 12mm that you can also use the rear filters is the APS-C E 10-18mm (15-27mm) OSS f/4 it works in full frame from 12-18mm (18mm if you remove the light shield). Using the rear filters and doing a panorama you will have no problems with the dark hump in the center like if you used a front filter. Have fun!!!!

For those rear mount filters for that lens, do they have some sort of frame to them? I have an Irix 15mm that can accept small filter sheets that you can either buy or cut for yourself - the instruction manual even gives you a template. I messed with the premade just for kicks, but it's more trouble than it's worth - bending or scratching the filter sheet. It's probably close enough to the sensor that it doesn't affect the image, but it's not a great option. I'm glad the Irix lens has a standard threaded front that can accept screw-on filters, which I've since bought. For that wide of angle, I settled for a decent variable ND and a good CP. It's a 95mm diameter, and my Haida square filter system can attach, but I have to crop a little, so I just use the screw-on filters most the time.

I have the 2.8 version for architecture. Love that lens. Haven't tried the little back filters yet. Could be good to have for future trips though. p.s. Nice hat buud.
The 2.8 version is such an awesome lens, definitely a bit sharper around the edges. I think for me I really wanted to save the weight since I do not shoot 2.8 all that often. Also budget was a bit of a factor. I got this one used for like 900 which was a steal for this.

Such beautiful images Michael. I really enjoyed the effort you put into showing the process of composing all your shots (not just the keepers), moving and steadying the tripod, and getting low - all while the sun was setting. Quite the effort to video all of that! And a how to clean bonus at the end. Bravo!

Nightly? I think I've cleaned my tripod twice in four years. Sure, it requires all of my strength to move one leg an inch, but I'm sure that's normal, right?

Great video and love the images. I have the 14 mm lens and it has the ability to have those filters, but when I go out, it’s almost always windy and I would rather deal with a front filter, despite its size, than deal with the dust that’s going to get inside the camera.
6:06 is lovely. How are you finding the leo head and tripod? I'm using a gitzo mountaineer series three for most things, and an old manfrotto tripod for my other camera at times, it looks fairly well built from what I can see? Did you ditch the L bracket?

Do any the filters to be able to get the proper exposure? Also I really need wide angle len like 1.4 but all the one I seen are prime lenses and I heard you can not zoom with prime lenses. I need help choosing one. I was thinking about the FE 85mm G master but don’t know if that the right one. I need it for that kind of photos you showed here and for video. Please help me to make the right decision
Hi Michael👋I love your seascapes , this video was great and informative as always 🤩In your opinion Are these lenses that do not have the option of installing a filter in front of the lens worth buying? I mean polarized filters because they cannot be used even for the back of the lens .In your opinion, how many millimeters wider is it worth to lose the possibility of using the filter? Especially for landscape photography. For example, let's use a 16-35 lens with the possibility of installing a filter in front of the lens .Thank you very much for your attention and answer. Your answer is very important to me 🙏😊
So this is a very interesting point that I also need to figure out. I think that I will need to pick and choose which lens to bring based on what I am shooting. For seascapes I rarely use a CPL, unless I am using my Tele lens. I think at 12mm the polarization effect will look quite bad as well with just a giant dark blob in the sky.
But in a rainforest where polarization is key, I think I would opt for just bringing the 16-35mm lens. Or perhaps I can use the 12-24mm and then if I need polarization I can just throw it on to my 28-200mm lens at the widest mm. I also have a pancake 24mm lens I can throw a CPL on and if I put that lens in my bag its hardly noticeable.
So I have a lot of good work arounds to not really need polarization on the 12-24mm. But its definitely never going to be the only lens I have with me, it will be a part of my kit. Whereas if I was to only bring one lens on a shoot. It would be the 28-200mm which can have polarization. Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks! Haha, so many people ask me about this, and I usually just forget to bring mine with me. It really doesn't have much of an effect on the way I shoot. I have some cheap off-brand ones at home, but they aren't very good. The RRS one is one of the only good options for the A1, and it's way too expensive for what you get, in my opinion.

I'm hoping Sony will release a 14mm zoom lens that takes filters. The 12-24mm is a no-go for me since I can't have my wide angle lens not able to take filters. Canon has the 14-35mm, Panasonic has the 14-28mm, and Nikon has the 14-30mm; come on Sony, everyone's doing it, follow the peer pressure ;)
You mean traditional filters? Because these rear ones worked pretty damn as illustrated here. Also you can get ones designed specifically for the front of lenses like this one, they are just massive.
@@MichaelShainblum Yeah, traditional ones; polarizer, NDs, even grads sometimes. I tried some once that clipped in over top of the sensor (for a full spectrum camera intended for both infrared and colour shooting) but they were a bit too finnicky for me, similar to what you noted. Seascapes with clip in filters may be ok, but I'd never be able to shoot a waterfall without a polarizer (or wouldn't be happy with the result I think). I just carry a little Voigtlander 12mm for times I need to go really wide.

This was recent. Best to try before the fog starts rolling back in. Summer can be tough on the coast.

Hey thanks, nah no struggles at all. I usually forget to bring my L brackets with me, I have some cheap off brand ones at home, but they aren't great. The RRS one is one of the only good options for the A1 and its way too expensive for what you get in my opinion.

Hey thanks! Haha funny enough I have some off brand ones, but they loosen so fast. I use them from time to time when I operate a timelapse slider (the camera mounts in sideways. I just cant bring myself to pay over 200 bucks for the RRS one, as its one of the only ones for the A1 cam.
But heres a funny story. When I got to this beach I realized I didn't have a tripod mount on my camera, I think I was cleaning it or something. I usually keep spares in my cam bag, but they weren't in there. But I did have a tiny plate on the bottom of my osmo pocket. So I switched that out and ended up just balancing the osmo on the sand to get the video footage (hence why it fell over) this was such a janky video production and I probably looked like an idiot filming it. 😂

Sir I consider you a master Landscape photographer. I enjoy you videos, and instruction. But I must ask you why did you say you were waiting for the wave in your video and when it happened, you dragged your shutter removing the detail which brought drama and interest to the image? I just would like to know your take. The scene was already dramatic with the sea stack. The foreground made more sense to keep sharp too. That and my 2 cents won't buy a cup of coffee.
I would've done it at a much lower level.
