How to Capture SHARP Flowers In Windy Conditions | Landscape Photography Tips & Techniques

  • As a landscape photographer, wildflowers hold a special place in my heart. They offer stunning colors and textures, often serving as the perfect foreground element for your landscape photography. However, the biggest challenge with capturing them is contending with wind. This can be particularly frustrating, especially when you aim to get close enough to the flowers for focus stacking.
    In this video, I'll discuss my favorite technique for getting sharp flower photography in windy conditions. I'll also share other tips and tricks to enhance your floral photography skills. I really hope you enjoy the video, and thanks so much for watching!

    This must have been a banner year for Lupine because it was the predominate flower here in Colorado (Crested Butte) area this past July. I was fortunate not to have windy conditions and came away with a good photo of the Lupines. Other times, as you said, the wind makes it very challenging, so, yes, pulling back a couple of feet and playing with the f-stop is about the only. Oh, on not getting your shadow in the photo, get a wireless shutter release remote, I have one for my Nikon and works well for a lot of different situations.

    Your stunning results offer convincing proof the simple strategy you suggest can work: f/16, hyper focus, shutter speed short enough to freeze motion, and whatever ISO it takes for a usable exposure. I’m reminded I have a 24mm tilt-shift lens I should put in the pack on such occasions to add focal plane tilt as an option to the combination of variables.

      Hey thanks so much Neil.
      On the L bracket topic. I have a few universal ones that I use from time to time, but they always end up loosening over time, also they are a bit bulky when attached to the camera. I used to have some nice cheap off-brand ones for my D850 and my older Canons. But the only one I found for the Sony A1 was from RSS for over 200 dollars which I just can't justify.

    • @NeilArthurs
      @NeilArthurs 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MichaelShainblum ah man, I know how it is. The price tag can be heavy indeed.
      I am the same having off brand Amazon ones and it's painful every time I need to change the battery I have to take it off and put it back on etc. Maybe next time I'll leave it at home and see how I go!
      Cheers ☺️
