When You're a KID on the Set of Stargate (Dial the Gate)

- ACTRESS BRITT IRVIN has been acting since she was a kid, and her place in the history of Stargate is one of Season 3's most memorable episodes. Young Merrin was a child from the planet Orban, a civilization that implants millions of nanites in the brains of the Uronne to help their society learn and advance - but leaving the kids in an infantile state after their nanites are harvested. When Merrin visits Earth and meets Sam Carter and Jack O'Neill, she learns what it means to be a kid ... and not just a "rocket scientist."
In this conversation with "Dial the Gate" host David Read, Britt remembers auditioning for the part (and seeing the staggering dialogue she had), figuring out who Merrin is, and what Richard Dean Anderson did to keep her laughing on set!

With the Lord of the Rings Situation we have right now, a Situation
that hopefully changes the broken Industry for Good, i can
only HOPE that when the Time comes that Stargate-Fans
need to prove Guts, they do it. I hope they know that the Second SG-Trailers
show Wokeness orr Gender-Ideologys or insult the Fans on purpose or such,
that the HARD; yes hard; Decision has to be made to stamp it into the Ground
and even prefer No-Stargate to Terrible-Stargate.

She 100% nailed that role, it's fascinating to hear about the behind-the-scenes story
Britt nailed the part and it was a great episode.
She was in one of the best episodes in SG:1, at least she helped her people for the better in the end.
Also showed how far Jack is willing to go for what he believed in.
Not so she is now cured! Dont you want to know how???
"Learning Curve" was a very beautiful episode, and Britt was superb as Merrin. The chemistry between her and O'Neill was very special, as the episode played out. It is one of the few SF episodes from any series that evokes a really strong emotional reaction from me, which is a rare thing indeed! Very good writing and excellent performances!
I mainly remember that episode for the sound editors spamming the bejeezus out of the stock child laugh sound effect from the beginning of Diddy Kong Racing.
Also O'Neill calling dogs his "favourite people."
Omg she hasn't changed 1 bit! One of my favorite episodes. Her chemistry with Jack/RDA was awesome. Great to know he was trying to make it hilarious for her 😂
And what are the odds of that amber alert for someone who was kinda "kidnapped" 😅😂😂

Merrin was always one of my favorite one-time characters. I had always hoped they would bring her back for more episodes, but was not sure how they could.
Britt did a phenomenal job with the part. She was so real, and charismatic. She made all the science jargon feel more real than the seasoned actors. Excellent!
-OMG! This is an amazing effort. Bring back this amazing people who were part of one of the most amazing franchise of our generation.
-I never thought i was going to come across with this actors who were not part of the regular cast but you remember every now and then.

hearing from all these young actors is cool just because of the society difference, like she mentions the process using a Fax machine being typical. I forget how long ago we needed that stuff

she aged rather well. pictures of me when I was 15 (aprox age as Merrin) vs 37 (her current age) do not look at all like the same person.

I'm not good with names. So when you said merrin was going to be on i couldn't think of who that was. So i tuned in and the instant she spoke i knew who she was. Stayed for the whole interview and it wad so so good. Thanks again for these interviews. Keep it up.

wonderful actress , her diction and annunciation saying such big and complicated words and memorizing them , wow, really intelligent person fot such a young age, very rare these days

David, what happened to your audio. Sounds like your microphone diaphragm is failing and coming loose.
I think David's mic had been slowly dying over the course of several weeks, and he was trying to coax it back to life. By the time this one was recorded he didn't realize it had more or less given up the ghost.

That was a good episode when she was in it remember how she was all business. Maybe she will get a return in the new season since we have a friendship with her planet see if they were able to teach them after they removed the nanites. That would be interesting

It was more than a little irritating on Star Trek TNG, there was just no end to it in certain episodes, at least in SG-1, Usually Jack would shout, "in english".
She is mesmerizing and gorgeous in the episode, I remember having a crush on her and wanting to give her a hug to FEEL.

Problem is, this was 20 years ago and she was a child. So unless she’s a big fan of stargate, it’s hard for her to speak for herself when being interviewed by an expert

In addition to the challenge of memory, some of the recap that David does for plot points and character beats is also for the benefit of a general viewing audience. You want to set up a question so that even casual viewers (who might remember the episode a bit fuzzily) will have maximum context to benefit from the answer.

Do one episode on all the advanced human races and alien they came across. None gou'ld ancient or asgard.
I watched your show, and it was very interesting. You really want to do something about some of the shows, and others were good. So, let me remind you of SGU, and they are in a predicament that's easy to get out of if you've watched the other Stargate TV Shows. Any supergate could easily dial them. They would take them all back to earth on a series of jumpers. Weirdest thing ever, they were all project Ikuris. That's the name of the project trying to dial Destiny. So, who was supposed to go?

I understand it's fiction. In Stargate Atlantis, the 2 supergates were used to get fron one galaxy to the next via a spaceship. I'm just saying, they left out stuff like that.
