    Always blown away by the abilities of the child actors sg1 got for the show. They did great jobs and hats off to the casting folks.

    Him saying those sentences that he didn't fully understand as a child was actually exactly what the role called for, Charlie was just repeating what Mother said and not using his own words.
    I understood not seeing the Reetou again, the CGI probably cost a lot, but I was disappointed we didn't see Charlie again. We saw the Tok'Ra a lot in following seasons, it would've made sense for the team to meet him at some point and to want to check up on him.

    Never understood why they didn't have anymore story lines (episodes) about the Reetou.

      I agree Mandy, Stargate isn't the only sci-fi show to do this, just seems such a waste of potential story lines.

      Same. It didn't make sense they never continued with the storyline considering they had a failed mission to kill the human hosts on earth in the only episode. Maybe that will change with the new upcoming series, idk.

    What that’s mother...?
    This was easily one of my favourite episodes of the whole show. Brilliant idea, brilliant execution. Beautifully realised alien race in their own way, and all achieved on a 90’s tv budget. It’s just a pity the Re’tu couldn’t have featured visually in later episodes. They’d have made an interesting ally/enemy for all involved.
    And the ‘Mother’ is still one of my favourite characters in Sci-Fi.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really enjoyed the episode, but I wouldn't say it was brilliantly executed. It never made sense to me that Mother could tell them exactly where the Rebel Reetou were and even outsiders like the Tok'Ra knew how they operated, but the Reetou government was incapable of stopping them, while making a genetically engineered child of another species was within their capability.

    • @KohuGaly
      @KohuGaly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@limiv5272 Well, you are assuming Mother actually told the truth.
      For all we know, the "rebels" might have been the real government, and the mother was a terrorist sabotaging official military operation. According to TokRa, Reetou rebels operate in small teams. What they found on the alleged "rebel base" was a fucking army.
      Also, the rebel team didn't slip in from there, because at the time, gate was already guarded by those phaser thingies. For all we know, the alleged "rebel base" could have been a refugee camp or a military base, possibly unrelated to the rebels. It's entirely possible that mother was hoping humans will shoot first and ask questions later.
      As for Reetou allegedly being pacifists, policy of pacifism goes tits up very quickly when alien species is genociding your entire species. It's quite possible Mother "missed" latest results of elections to Reetou government.
      Also, when your species is genocided by the Goauld, sniffing out rebels who attack a third party is of low priority. Low enough to only bother sending a single messenger with a botched clone of an interpreter. Evidence: they clearly didn't bother sending a military escort to guard the gate at SGC.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KohuGaly I love the idea that Mother wasn't who she said she was, however I'm not entirely sure it makes sense. If she was a rebel, and the Reetou that attacked the SGC were members of the government, then why was she there to warn us? And what was she rebelling against? Anyway a story about Mother not being who she said she was could've been an awesome episode that could've brought back Charlie. I'm still upset we never saw him again despite having so much contact with the Tok'ra in following seasons.
      The timing when the attack team got into the SGC also bothered me. I always assumed that they tailgated another team that came home after Charlie came to the SGC but before the Tok'Ra gave them the detector/weapon thing [did it have a name?]
      I'm not sure I'd send a whole armed team with Mother if I were the Reetou, even if I had the resources. It could be perceived as an act of aggression by Earth, and they clearly already had enough enemies

    • @KohuGaly
      @KohuGaly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@limiv5272 I'm not necessarily saying Mother was lying about who she was. Both the Republic of China and the People's republic of China agree that there's just one China. They just disagree which one is the legitimate government. Reetou might be in similar scenario.
      detector/weapon thing [did it have a name?]
      The weapon is called phase disruptor. The detector within it is not explicitly named.
      As for the military escort. It could just wait in the gate room undetected and shoot the rebels when they come through the gate. They can explain themselves afterwards, or just leave. It's not like SGC has means to detect them, let alone stop them from leaving.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KohuGaly I like the two governments idea. Really sad we never saw the storyline continued.
      Once Charlie came into the SGC, the SGC knew they had a security breach and were probably working on a solution to prevent the Iris from being opened again. I'm not sure the Reetou should've counted on the SGC failing to secure the gate before they completed their mission. And since the SGC doesn't have a DHD dialing out might not be very easy, especially if additional security measures were enacted after Charlie's arrival.
      Also, imagine if the SGC didn't believe them and/or SGC personnel got killed when the attacking Reetou got onto the base. I still don't think I'd go that way if I were the Reetou rebels, but then again they're aliens so who knows what they might do.

    Peter DeLuise (from what I've heard) breaks the mold of being a show business kid aka he's a cool guy instead of a stuck up prick. But then again I've also heard his dad was a cool guy to work with.
    Always cool to see and hear folks that were kids when a show or episode was being filmed as adults.
