    Why did you install so much tile (those aren't cheap) that is going to be totally covered behind the oven??

    • @lowes
      @lowes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We just measured the height of one additional tile below the countertop line. Since we're using 12x12 tile, it was a little lower than needed to hide the drywall. If you were using smaller tile, like subway tile, you could just go a row or two down from the back of the range.

    4:52. I used to apply caulk that way, freestyle, but I find it more helpful to run blue painter's tape (such as by 3M) on each side of the caulk bead first -- 1/8 inch or so away from the joint on each side -- as a mask, before I run the caulk bead. Then I run my fingertip over the entire bead to form a perfect straight and even bead. Beads come out perfectly every time. Really looks more professional when your bead is in a very visible area.
    Just remember to remove the blue tape fairly soon -- before the caulk skins over.

    Behind the sink, would you use green board for the wall where the backsplash tile goes down to the countertop surface? If so, how high?

    How do you end the free edge??

    • @ITHINKFREE85
      @ITHINKFREE85 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      With tile that thin you could caulk it. With thicker tile you would need some tiles with finished edges or any type of finished nosing that you like.

    I am planning on also replacing the counter top. Would it be better to replace it AFTER I tiled the backsplash? That way the backsplash would be easier to put in (I think) and the counter top could butt right up against the backsplash. I've never done this before.

    • @lowes
      @lowes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You could do that, but we'd still recommend installing the countertop first. Most walls aren't completely square, so there's some gaps between the countertop edge & the wall. By installing the backsplash afterward, it'll help cover those gaps.

    What if I use the adhesive to stick tiles to the walls, would that hold the tile and do I still have to use tile grout on the tile.

    • @ITHINKFREE85
      @ITHINKFREE85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You always have to grout and mastic would work better and easy to work with. Although some tile requires either mortor or mastic. Make sure the tile you choose will bond with whatever adhesive you use.

  • @ITHINKFREE85
    @ITHINKFREE85 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mastic would be a better alternative than mortor.

    • @justingregory8096
      @justingregory8096 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what tile you use. Mastic is not to be used with glass tile...it's not strong enough.

      Shouldn't be an issue, +StormLaker1975. Just make sure you give it a good sanding beforehand and don't skimp on the thinset during installation. Thanks for watching & good luck!

    I wouldn't use Lowes for anything, especially custom ordered countertops. It's been five months since my brother in law and his wife ordered countertops and they still aren't here. The sad thing is that the countertops are made in the same county of which they live! Too many excuses and order coming in wrong, and I would never order from there. You are better off finding an independent reliable contractor to do your work.
