That looked quite difficult actually. You are a skilled repairman and a skilled video creator. I recently managed to upgrade the 512Gb SSD in my 2014 11" macbook air to a 2Tb SSD. That one was easy. No unsoldering necessary. What you did here requires skill. If I tried that, even if I had all the fancy tools you have, I'm pretty sure I'd screw it up.
Learn from your mistakes. right ? When it comes to this level of repair or replacing components in imac or iphones. you sometimes mess up and break stuff ;-)

Good video I just watched the video for the screwdriver you were using .. please share name of the screwdriver you using and Amazon link will be highly appreciated
Depends on the CPU you have. These SSDs use lanes to travel to the CPU. The basic M1 only provides 2 lanes. The Pro provides 4 lanes and the Max provides 8 lanes. So 2, 4, and 8 respectively are the ceilings.
@@punishthemeatpocket Man I thought I was wasting time on this video though I was considering an upgrade but you are on another level of wasting time here xD
Some younger viewers may be surprised to learn this, but old Apple products were engineered to be easy to upgrade memory and storage space. On the old Macbooks, the memory and hard drive could be replaced without tools.
Old Macbooks didn't use the Storage as a means for the GPU to offload VRAM ;) We're in a different era of speed... the old ways won't suffice any longer.
Great job! Will the serial number differ after this replacement? Doesnt it mess up the activation process(( apple server looking for the old serial-iCloud registration credentials etc?))
My phobias are two folds: the moment I take the glued chip off without taking any pads off, abd the moment I take the glue off while heating the pads, without damaging board pads.. what temp and speed are you using when cleaning the glue? Any special chemical that helps take the glue off?
So curious! It was my understanding that the M-series chips had the T2 security chips integrated into them and would only recognize storage that the system had been explicitly mated to at the factory-are there any lingering issues around using secure enclave-related features after this, for example, TouchID?
You're too good in doing this. But how do you know selected Nand is a good one? And as it looks like replacing nand will remove everything.. Means will it also remove icloud??
This is crazy, thought this is difficult to do (only know it’s possible for iPhones) until I saw this video. Thank you for uploading this video. Is this possible to change for the ARM (RAM of the MacBooks) and the processor? I own a MacBook Air 8GB ARM and 256GB SSD and want to upgrade. I also want to upgrade the base CPU and GPU to the next level. Is it possible? Thanks in advance sener!

How did you clone the old drive onto the new chips, so everything is identical except from the drive having a larger capacity?
He didn't. That part with the DFU was restoring MacOS to it as a fresh install using another mac, kinda like restoring an iPhone using a computer.
How much does this cost as a service?
Any chance to upgrade RAM?

yes on older mac books however the m1 is too locked down and there isn't a kit readily available
