WWF In Your House 5 (retroactively named In Your House 5: “Seasons Beatings”) took place on December 17th 1995 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The holiday themed Pay Per View was headlined by the long awaited PPV rematch between Bret Hart and The British Bulldog. This time, however, Bret would defend the WWF championship against his brother-in-law and not the Intercontinental Championship (like SummerSlam 1992). Bret wrote in his book that he had no real plan for how this match would play out until the day of the show, but it ended up turning into a hidden gem. Davey Boy Smith vs Bret Hart is one of the WWF’s best PPV main events of 1995, and it was also featured on an event that got a very low buy-rate.
Elsewhere on the show Savio Vega has a meeting with Santa (Xanta) Clause, Triple H battles Henry Godwinn in a Hog Pen match, Razor Ramon teams up with Marty Janetty to wrestle Sycho Sid and the 1-2-3 Ki, and Big Daddy Cool Diesel takes on Owen Hart.

I prefer this Bret vs Bulldog match over the Summerslam 92 match, this was a rare gem in a muddy year and one of Brett's best matches.

Both matches were brilliant. From pure bell-to-bell in ring action this one might be better but the atmosphere of SummerSlam is incredible... and I also prefer Bulldog's look from then with the long braids.
@@Maniac_Matt Davey would've been a cool choice for a quick transitional champion but honestly no further than that. Too many demons, he didn't really perform well with more limited guys like his title match two months earlier with Diesel.
Both matches are superb. This one gets overlooked. However I also prefer it. One thing about this era is how high the match quality was. Compared to what came before and even after it.
I love an unexpected overdose of Davey Boy Smith chinlocks. Keep up the good work and thanks!

I've watched the Hart/Bulldog match numerous times and it is a masterpiece that rarely gets talked about. It was a beautiful war. Definitely in my top 5 Bret Hart matches.
It truly was great. This is the first time I heard about the match but wow did it impress. It seems Bret could truly get the most out of Bulldog.
As Jim Cornette once said about Davey, "If he was on, he was a top worker in the world. Issue is, he wasn't totally on most of the time when it came to interest. Bret and Owen brought it out of him, though."

It's so weird for me looking back on this era. On one hand you have gimmicks like "Wrestling hillbillies hitting people with pig slop" in this cartoonish sense... and then you have Bret and Davey Boy Smith just absolutely destroying each other in a competitive, physical match that ends on a bit of a technical roll up instead of the finishes I'd be more used to after the Attitude Era faded of the "Double down then someone hulks up for a finisher and pinfall".
Just a truly unique blend of things in that transitional era.
"You can skip all this and you wouldn't miss much" nicely sums up JJ's career.

2 things I always gotta appreciate about your videos, besides what the video is about, is the music choices. Love the mixing in the beginning of your videos, and I love how you throw in classic wrestling game themes in there as well. The music in your videos is always a nostalgia trip, everything from No Mercy to Here Comes The Pain.
That is one of the many little things that make this wrestling channel so perfect.

Compared to the current point of time in the Reliving the War timeline (Post-Wrestlemania 14), this PPV gave me tonal whiplash by how much had changed since December 1995. The tone of the New Generation-Era sure was... something.
Yeah dude OVERNIGHT it went from colorful, walking super heros to the gritty look doing what ECW was doing just less edgy.

I know people criticize HHH for some things in his career but it shows you he really paid his dues. The man was in a Hog Pen Match that had me dead when he fell in that Hog Pen face first after he won the match vs Henry Godwinn. My mom bought the PPV so I got to see and loved the championship match between Bret and Bulldog.

A forgotten Bret gem. Davey was great too with the addition of Jim Cornette. It was rare when Bret bladed (except in his Stampede days), but when he did, it made the match.
I much prefer this match over their Summerslam 92 match. Bret bleeding all over the place truly made this match look awesome.
I can see how you missed this PPV in the reliving the war, one good match does not an entire show make, but I’ve got to say, while you weren’t happy, The Davey Boy Smith Chinlock brought a smile to my face, I didn’t realise how much I’d missed that.

It seems back in the early reliving the War days that Davey did WAY more chinlocks....maybe by the end he decided that they were too powerful & limited them to 1 or 2 times a match. But even then would Davey hold back sometimes from using it at all. What a mad bastard he was. Master of Chinlocks. Also the "He headbutts Bret right in the asshole" nearly killed me. Was drinking water & I choked for a solid 20 seconds

That Bret Hart vs British bulldog was a damn good match might not have been good as the summerslam 1992 match but it was still enjoyable.
I personally think it’s better than the Summerslam 92 match and does get overlooked when discussing classic encounters from this era.

Owen was such an amazing wrestler. I hate that even to this day he's still compared to Bret or that he's Bret's little brother. Owen deserves more respect than that

I really wish WWE put out a best of the New Generation DVD/Blu-ray. Some of those rare gems found there way onto other releases, but a DVD/Blu-ray set dedicated to that era would've been so good.

I got a kinda bizarre request but I'd love to see you review the 1997 Slammy Awards, it was honestly a very entertaining special and I've always kinda viewed it as the definitive explanation point to The New Generation (while I've personally always considered Wrestlemania 13 as The Attitude Era's true beginning).

14:00 people today complain about the next gen games costing $69.99, but they forget that SNES (and later N64) games cost that much in the 90s. I remember paying $89.99 for some N64 games. But at least we didn't have to worry about cheap crappy DLC littering every game.
I wish they would have done more PPV shows in Hershey PA. I don't live too far from there so it would have been neat to see another PPV held there.

$69.99, $64.99 and $54.99 are too damn much for the WWF game.
What's crazy to me is that a $70 game back then is WAY more expensive than a $70 game today, and $70 back then for a game wasn't extremely uncommon. This is why I can't take people seriously when they complain about game prices today. They just don't understand. People back in the 90s were paying the today equivalent of like $100 for most games.
