Beautiful Ira. The bit,for me, which gave the most trueish teaching of Non-dualism is when the name 'David Hume' (the Scottish philosopher) came up at the 1:37 mark. I read Hume. I know something about his thoughts. Since, to him, we are merely a bundle of swift moving ideas, the solid Self, the 'I am', isn't there;it is always changing. Buddhist, as you said, say the same thing about Self. But who is the One that knows it is changing? That must be something. It must be a deeper Self, the Witnessing Self, in Vedantic terms. Just one little statement like that made the thing click. In the future, you should begin your talks with that little analogy. It will make it understandable to many.

    Thanks for the video!
"Normally people suppose that a jnani should suppress all the emotional outbursts. That is not correct. With your standpoint in the Absolute, you are not concerned with the feelings and instinctive outbursts of the apparatus.
A jnani does not volitionally participate, it is spontaneously happening; while an ignorant person is deeply involved in that, he assumes everything is real."

Subjectivity is constructed. Dream subject and awake subject both constructed. The structure of belief underlies the construction of subjectivity. This is the nature of aggregates. Good Buddhist teaching.

If ira had the choice to have his arm cut off in a dream or in the waking state he would choose the dream because he knows there is a BIG difference between the two states.

He doesn't have a choice. It is cut off or it isn't. He is observing and it is of no real consequence what state it happens in. Why argue against something you don't believe?

    • @darren8121

Stuart Macdonald seems like what he is saying is there is no difference between the waking state and the dream state since both are being observed by the same observer which is an unknowable mystery. I love that but it’s like saying because the observer sees the banana and the apple there is no difference between the two. On one level there isn’t any because all things are empty of a singular root beingness but in the world of language and satsangs and deciding to grow your hair long and wear a bracelet and a beard and arriving somewhere on time etc. there is wonderful variety and differences. I don’t see where he teaches how to integrate these concepts into the world of apparent things. Something I feel is missing from so many of these non dual discussions. Dreaming is different from waking, it is obvious. At the same time our entire experience is a complete mystery that we can only experience in our human way. Trying to say there is no difference seems like just another system of thinking. I appreciate your reply to my post. Thank you.

I don't think he is trying to teach people to integrate this into their lives, as much as appreciate that it is all real and the things we attach to self are a unnecessary an a impediment.

@@darren8121 you are correct. I prefer to fly in the dream state but I prefer to make love in the worldly state. It's all good stuff. After 30 years of contemplating non duality I now tend to think that non duality is a great path of understanding so we can then truly understand duality and Live with 2 selves. The one that changes and the one that doesn't.

In a dream if you are killed you aren’t really dead. In waking life when you are killed you are dead. No more dreams. No more waking life.No more subject to experience anything. His talk is deeply flawed. Whether you are asleep or awake you have a thought that you are experiencing things. It is a thought. When you die in waking life your brain dies and the I thought dies and there is no more experience of any kind as we can speak of. The idea or should I say thought that there is an observer otherwise known as a subject that experiences anything is just a thought. A thought is just an organizing of chemicals in the body. Everything I am thinking and typing are chemicals in my body forming thoughts. When I die no more thinking no more subject no more observer no more experience. World continues to be here And am no longer in it. Am I missing something. I hope so, which of course is just a thought.

Hustle Loy So when I become firmly established in my true nature I won’t feel the need to jump out of the way of the car?

    • @darren8121

Hustle Loy from my perspective that’s just a bunch of wordplay and concepts. Fear is allowed. Feeling to be one who is afraid is allowed. Calling yourself either a “mover” or a “self” is unimportant. That’s my understanding at least. Thanks for your replies
