My Stihl 015 on FS150 brush cutter built in 1977 has a Walbro HDC-17b with same issue, but couldn't 'see' the problem just like you. I even stretched the spring like you did! I'm subscribed!
great vids, straight and helpful. have been mechanic all my life and appreciate experience as well as your thinking it out. I retired @ age 70 nine years ago and still work on small engines mostly saws and trimmers that nobody else will . I appreciate your expertise. On two stroke carbs w age residue in the oil mix accumulates and hardens at the needle taper .I use a round wooden toothpick to polish the seat w/out damage to brass seat. after removing the screen a tip cleaner/jet cleaner will remove hardened residue from brass seat passage to prevent leakage reoccurring due to flushing tru to needle . residue should be polished off of the needle taper also whether old or new needle. new needles can have a powdery coating on taper. .

I just had the problem with my blue Homelite EZ carb , but because of what I learned from you on pressure testing before mounting the cover I was able to fix it before it became a flooding problem. I didn’t have an OEM kit around to put it in, So what I did was very carefully grounded the little knob off on the bench grinder from the diaphragm and it worked beautifully the saw awesome now. I have witnessed that too with the metering diaphragms (center nub) being different/incorrect in some carb kits. I don't buy the ultra cheap'y Chineseium ones on eBay, but try to get OEM kits. Then again Walbro probably sources every thing from anyway.
Leon, I came across an aftermarket kit with that high nub that you reference. I did not have another kit to substitute and the old metering diaphragm was clacking pretty good... In the aftermarket kit was a metering gasket that was .050 thick which placed the nub high enough to use but the needle could not be any higher than just at the casting or the needle would seep. Its popping off at 15 and resetting at 10 now with a wet needle. We will see if it runs. Thank you for your help on this old HDC Homelite.
Thanks for video help me alot with my homelite 360 carburetor. I put kit in it and did what this gentlemen did had wrong size dipham which to long of peg in it now runs get after change it out.. i want add you can get springs from walbro its part number 98-270-7 it should come as kit 5 in bag
So how much pressure are applying with your cuff pump? I’ve got a 360 Professional that has me down a rabbit hole, but thanks to your videos, I’ve almost got it. Looking to pressure test it. Symptoms: Initially would barely fart. Replaced the pump hose. Now fires immediately then floods. ( fuel comes out of exhaust). So I figure I got something wonky yet. Working through your videos has been a treasure trove of information. Thank you for all your posts.
Leon, another great video. I have an original Walbro HDC 57 Carburetor manufactured in May 1979. I need a circuit plate with the lever and hinge pin attached. The chainsaw is a Homelite Super 2. Double trigger style. Please let me know if I can purchase one from you and how. Thanks. John
I had one come in that had the wrong needle in it , it was close but not close enough. I always hated it when someone would mess with one and not know anything about them !! :-)
Great video. I would like to find a replacement carb for my Homelite XL (not XL2) Model # 105064 HDC 65-B. Also stamped on the carb, right next to the HDC-65-B is a date of 3/86. ALL the Ebay carbs that say it is a replacement for mine, is missing the choke arm that sticks up next to the handle. Thoughts on if they will work? Thanks
If it wasn't bad enough that the castings were not completely flat so the gasket would seal, but how many hands have over tightened the screws and bowed the carburetor and especially the two that hold the carburetor on the engine! I have ran a wet stone across the face of several of my saws to stop it from having an air leak.
with a vac/pressure pump connected for pressure ck ,vac can be used to ck if at least one of the check valves is sealing by depressing lever to open needle. If ck valve seals vacumn it only means that at least one is good and is soft enough and not warped and stiff.
love your repair videos but I have a homelite xl2 origional carb and cant find a kit for it. do you have one in stock or where to get one? HDC15 on the carb. Please advise
I've got a homelite XL with a HDC-65. I rebuilt and pressure tested the carb on it and would not hold pressure. I tried to stretch the spring and it flew away. DAMNIT! Anyway, I have a new spring coming. On the nub on the diaphram...can you grind that down with a dremel or is that a bad idea! (I havent looked at mine close enough yet to tell if its that taller one). Your carb video's are the best on dianosis that I've found. Thank You!
I have question.. Why is it that i can not find the individual parts of a chainsaw chain for sale? I Found some cutter and links but the price is too high for a few individual parts. Is there a place where i can buy 50 cutters, 50 tie strap ect.. or is there a conspiracy to force people to buy the chain? LOL

Thanks! You probably could use a dremel, but I'd be careful not to get too aggressive...could do damage to a finger!

Supply and demand thing. few people repair chains ,not cost effective and faster/safer to relace.
