    I bought my trusty Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger in 1994. It's still my #1 go-to detector and has never had a problem in all of those years. I've used it when placer mining in northern California but I mostly use it for coin and jewelry hunting here in central Texas. I've used it when hunting with my detecting buddy, who uses an XP Deus, and I've found more valuables than him on all 3 times we've taken those two detectors out in the field. My Scorpion has paid for itself 3 or 4 times already and I think it still has a long life ahead of it.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sure miss using it. Was a very fun detector to learn on. The three 9V batteries are a bit excessive...but other than that I loved the dials and tank like construction.

    • @scorpioman92
      @scorpioman92 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The 3 batteries and the difficulty of changing them out are the only two things that I don't like about it but it does last a long time on the batteries between changes. It's probably the most durable and toughest detector I've ever owned.

    Nice review! I really like the older analog Garretts. I have a Freedom II Coin Commander and I feel I get more information from the analog tone than with a newer digital that doesn't have the variety of sonic tones as the analogs. Any further reviews you do I'd be interested in watching. I hope to make some videos of my older machines as well.
    Also, is that a bunny or a Guinea pig? :)

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Parsec994a Thank you Parsec. I like the older type detectors as well. Something about them really interests me. I may end up getting a Tesoro Vaquero someday just to say I have one. Don't get me wrong...I love my new digital ID type machines...but I do miss this detector now that I have sold it. The Gold Bug that replaced it is a better machine IMO...but this will find the gold as good as ever. Surprisingly small gold at that.
      That was a bunny that my son got to bring home for a week from school for good behavior.

    The chatter i believe could be from the emf given off by most house hold appliences i have super fine tuned mine to work under most power lines without any troubles the best way to learn this detector i believe is too dig every target for quite some time till a person gets used to every mode based off of the sound clarity you hear ive also learned without discriminating out gold one can still not dig really any metal tarkets depending where the detector is being used any rusty iron will give a chattery signal or broken signal but you will not discriminate out any possible gold finds. But just as with any good detector put in the time and learn all sounds in every mode with out discrimination. And when it comes time for the big leages i firmly believe this detector can still hold its own against the big boys. In a trash filled yard full of bottle caps roofing nails tinfoil and assorted ods and ends i pulled out 48 pennies in a day a toy car a len thompson spoon and a brass hose nosel. When one learns the signals etc this is a great great machine without having to dig much if any trash. Just practice in every mode.:-)

    Great video. I have the same detector, but I'm not sure if my audio is not working as well as it should. I don't have the continuous hum like in most videos I've watched. I still have good sounds on different targets. I do find , with my scorpion stinger, I have a lot of chatter, as you put it, when using the unit. I am a rookie, and find it difficult scanning beaches, and if I move over a deeper spot of sand, I get false readings or my detector starts humming and beeping, and find nothing when digging. Perhaps my Garrett detector has some technical problems. I will keep my eyes open for some videos that have tutorials while using the detector in the field. This video was very helpful to me, and very informative. Maybe it's time to update my detector and start with new, trusted equipment. Thank you. Peace"N"Love everyone 😉👍

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rik Nelson I know the video and actually commented on it. The Scorpion hits every target the AT Gold does, it just sounds a little different being analog vs digital. Why Bearkat said it was doing "better" I have no idea.
      Iron disc, depth, and a visual ID is where the AT Gold wins....for tiny gold nuggets the Scorpion will hang with it pretty closely.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rik Nelson I had at one point looked into getting some pictures of the PCB to some of the members of Geotech forums where the members make home-made detectors and coils. It ran off the popular Groundhog PCB and it was already available. I guess the coils are the hard part holding most back...idk.
      I recently sold this Scorpion...and I regret it a bit. I like the older analog type machines. My Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter 2 fills the void a bit....but I still miss it.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bottom 2 knobs - Audio and Ground Balance - are both "10-turn" knobs. You can actually feel a resistance of sorts when you turn then past the 10-turn threshold in either direction. They do not stop turning....they should just get a bit tighter to turn.
      So say you turn it all the way left or right...like 1000 turns. You are 100% positive you are all the way counter-clockwise or clockwise. Start to turn it the other direction and count off 10 turns as close as you can. Once you hit the 10 turn marker the other direction you should feel it hit a resistance of sorts. The knob will continue to turn...but you should feel the knob get slightly tighter to turn.

      No this would not be a good detector to start with. The learning curve is rather steep and the Scorpion is notorious for needing a fine tune setup to work properly.
