Having tried it, the builtin headphone jack can actually be a big disadvantage, as when you connect the keyboard to your phone, you are force to use that, it's not possible to use the builtin phone speaker with this keyboard, either with Android or iOS. When connecting to a laptop, you can chose to use it or not, so it's ok
I purchased the mini one simply bc it had physical mod and pitch wheel but the fact i couldnt plug and play with my daw ruined it. The cables are set for tablet and phone usage . The quality of the keyboard and key-bed are great.
I got the mini 37 : and I love it, the keys are not cheap soft + super quiet key bed ! and it looks good :-) Very very important thing I dig the most : big transpose buttons on top makes it easy to transpose whilst playing : huge + ! Also the size is perfect !
I have small hands which I’m glad being a woman 😁. So the iRigKeys2 really would be great for me. Neither one will fit in those small bags but a regular book bag which is what I use. But I enjoy the reviews and the dope intro music too. Thanks brotha for the info.
Hey John Mike, I love your videos. Thank you for all your reviews. What do you think is better in terms of how the key bed feels: iRig Keys 2 vs Korg microKEY 37?
Thanks for your videos John Mike! I've been watching your reviews and am looking for the best controller for a beginning user that works well with iPad. Would you recommend the Pro for that?
These company should have work for a workable piece of hardware for previous model ( just a patented iphone lighting to { lighting and audio dongle for all those that have the irig key 1st generation ) that would have been a great piece of hardware for many. Hope
Hi John ..... I like the fact that you don't have to plug them into an audio interface .... just straight into an ipad (in my case) .... question is - I use Garageband IOS (new user) and want to know if Sampletank will show in Garageband in the audio extensions so I can choose to play from that instrument software .. and if not, how wojld I do this? Many thanks Tim (UK)
If this is also an audio interface, can I plug my mic directly into? If yes, this means that I can skip purchasing a Focusrite interface, for instance, right?
Woa, stop the bus! So, for about $150, I can either buy a Scarlet 2i2 Gen 3 OR I can buy an iRig Keys 2 Pro audio interface with a built-in midi controller (OK, technically, a midi controller with a built in audio interface) for the same price? What am I missing? I get it that the 2i2 has more inputs and outputs. But, for a simple keys rig, can I just get the iRig Keys 2 Pro and call it a day? Yes, I know I need an external DAW (iPad, Macbook, etc).
It seems as if the keyboard only has an output. So if you plan on recording anything that requires a microphone, you're out of luck. If you only going to record MIDI and play soft synths out of the headphone output then go for it.
Jules Berkhof absolutely....but there are a lot of non-classically trained musicians and producers out there that don’t need 88 fully weighted keys with graded action...and want to know the difference between the pro and non pro before they decide to spend their money
@@Johnmike Totally agree with you, this comparison has been very helpful to me as I'm just looking for a small keyboard to enter MIDI into my DAW. Thanks for posting this!
Depends on what you want. Are 'classically' trained musicians restricted to a single version of an instrument, or a single instrument for that matter? The real issue I think is for 'non-trained' beginners. My advice would be avoid mini keyboards at all costs. You don't want to learn on them. They are ok, but the ergonomics just might be all wrong. Depends.
You sold me on this.
Just bought my Pro, can’t wait till it gets here.

I like the Pro model, as you said, it's only $20.00 more + they both have headphone jacks which IS very important to me.

Hard choice but I’d probably go for the irig
Thanks for your videos John Mike! I've been watching your reviews and am looking for the best controller for a beginning user that works well with iPad. Would you recommend the Pro for that?
Yup it’s a really good keyboard for that...especially if you have the iPad that doesn’t have the headphone jack
Awesome- thanks so much for your insight!!
Akai should step up the audio interface in case they're planning to have mpk3
Cool new video intro, John Mike!

Dude need a review on irig keys i/o 49. Waiting for it
Coming soon
@@Johnmike Has this dropped yet??
if i don't want to use the iRig Keys as an audio interface and i want to use the built in speakers on my ipad or iphone. is that possible to set up?
Can I plug it directly into a PA system?
You could
Great review... thanks!

I don’t think you can use sample tank directly in GarageBand...but maybe you can using audiobus
Many thanks :)
great work!
is this a better controller for controlling garageband software.
On iOS yes
On Mac?
Hey, can we just put on headphones and hear the keyboard sound?
Yes...but you have to connect it to an iPad iPhone or computer...it has no internal sounds
If this is also an audio interface, can I plug my mic directly into? If yes, this means that I can skip purchasing a Focusrite interface, for instance, right?
Well no...you’ll still need something for your mic...this is an output only interface
Will that work with GarageBand?
Yes
ay overdue??..they both came with sample tank 3 max before the end of 2019 - holiday sale...sure its ended buy now. :(
So nothing different but just size and price?
Juan Latin basically
if you are reading this
i hope you have a great new year and achieve all your goals in life❤️✌🏼
Can you transponse semitones to GarageBand with those?

That's a good question. I also wonder how good the latency is.

No classical trained keyboardist would ever opt for the small keys.. which to me makes most of the compare kind of useless
