Pretty sure the altered cassette door/button design is a leftover from the Soundblaster retool. If I recall correctly, the original Soundwave mold was lost, and every reissue has actually been a blue Soundblaster. Now of course, Soundblaster’s cassette compartment is bigger, but it appears that they were able to make a flatter door for the Soundwave reissues.
I also purchased this for a friend, (as he recently lost his mother after a lengthy health battle.) NATURALLY it showed up yet gain in a BAG, and COMPLETELY trashed lol! I can't fathom what they are thinking. My only theory is that they have ZERO idea that these are adult collectibles, and assume that they are for kids who are just going to trash them immediately anyway lol.
I might be wrong but I think the hing being on the side of the play/fast forward buttons is a carry over from the Soundblaster mold. If that's the case, then the remolded the door to be the single slot door instead of the double door like Soundblaster and the last re-issued Soundwave.
They look very handsome. Especially Laserbeak. But I can't keep buying versions of every G1 character. G1 Soundwave ko, Retro Soundwave, Newage Ex Soundwave, Legacy United Soundwave, Earthrise Soundwave, Robot Paradise ko Soundwave. I gotta draw the line somewhere.

I was going to pass on this Soundwave, now I need both him and Blaster. :D Since your other G1 Soundwave is so loose, you might want to look into acquiring the 2018/19 Wal*Mart reissue Soundwave and minions, they'll have nice tight joints. Also, they all have chrome stickers. Alternatively, Toy Polloi once restored the tightness to a G1 Soundwave, check his video out.
I would LOVE a soundblaster review, please do that. Great review here, cartoon colors is always a win. Not let see if Hasbro can give us a G1 Ultra Magnus in Cartoon colors, I'd love that.
Nice review for a nice re-imagining of Soundwave! I'm thrilled to finally be able to get him, as I never had him as a kid. (MANY are upset btw that these are being sent out in bags instead of boxes.) Transformers, (and Zoids,) always meant a lot to me, as they were that early taste of Japan at a time when anime etc was not nearly as accessible here in the U.S. 😎

Oddly enough, Hasbro sent me Blaster 1st & I had pre-ordered both of them. It’s a thing now where the boxes are coming in dinged up. Hasbro sent mine in a box, but Blaster’s box was a not mint. Good thing I don’t collect boxes. I am loving the toon accurate colors though, but i will have to chrome out the barrels. Either way not bad. I will now have to get J. Blavin Soundwave.
I think we can all just be really happy with latest version that we don't have to apply those red line stickers and nothing peals off either! But I love the original as well, just not apply the stickers sigh...
@@TF80s No, it was the G1 Ravage toy, dubbed Decepticons Forever Ravage, that came with Covert Agent Ravage (a retool of Kingdom Cheetor based on his appearance in Beast Wars).
Im not sure if this is the case with transformers but lego used to have chrome parts but stopped making them due to the chrome paint chipping off after a while Might be why Hasbro doesn't do chrome parts anymore
Yeah, don't get people moaning about these figures not being original toy accurate when the point of them is to be toon accurate..if you don't like toon accuracy, why buy them at all?

The Soundblaster decal set from Reprolabels was pretty awesome too. I loved the gold highlights on that set

The cassettes are really cartoon accurate. This is exacting whatbI wanted, the old toys to lookblike the TV show.

I'd prefer the minions had their cassette decorations, but that's me. I'm sure there are Toyhax decals for that sort of thing.😁

I wish Hasbro would used the Soundblaster toy as an animation version of Soundwave, because that toy can hold 2 casettes.

I've been watching some people trying those Molotow liquid chrome pens. I'm liking what I've seen so far. I'm tempted to try one on some figures.
I've restored many G1 figures and weapons with those.

Walmart is the worst in shipping. I ordered mine from hasbro plus for that reason.
