  • Irrational fears, we all have them. But when an irrational fear becomes justified...well, it's a recipe for disaster.
Not sure how I will start to justify this or logically rationalise with myself. Not like there was much of that, to begin with! But what are the odds I would find something to justify an irrational fear.

I liked and subscribed when you said you're "still grumpy and still sulky". Really enjoy your videos, and hello to little George :)

OMG Paul! You know I am there with you regarding the dentist! Thank God I found one that understood my fear! I wouldn’t go back to that guy either! Sending you a virtual hug! Now you have to have me around for a chili🤣. Good thing you have George there to keep you busy! Hey I think I mentioned that when I have my jabs for Covid I was a mess and had to have my partner with me. I am 62 remember. Good luck on your internet searches and I hope you find nothing bad😀. Keep us posted! Its all going to turn out fine!

I love the tongue picture of George, he is so cute!
I do think your fear of the dentist is rational. The teeth are so important for the health of the whole body. People have died because of a small tooth, it's that serious. One tooth with a infection can cause the infection to run through the whole body. If not treated or treated properly, the infection can then cause a person to die. All due to a infected tooth. Death by a Tooth!
I really hope that this new dentist will be the perfect fit for you. I hope they do their job right and fix your teeth. I also hope that they will even be mindful of your autism.
I just write down what I need at the grocery store, not in any order. Once I get to the store though, I start at the first aisle and work my way to the last aisle. Then go down the left and right side aisles. I do that in order every time. Even if I don't need anything in the first aisle or every single aisle. I basically cover every perimeter of the store whether I need to or not. It's just my routine that I keep. One reason why I do this is for just in case I forgot to put something on my list. I do kind of look like I'm scoping out the store to rob it though. Definitely if I only have three items in my hand at checkout.

Haha, I have my set pattern in the shops...and get annoyed if someone is walking in 'the wrong direction' down a certain aisle! There isn't logic to walk the opposite way to me, as the final aisle will mean you have to double back on yourself! I know I know, I need to get a life!!

I never used to be scared of dentists, just very anxious about anything happening to my teeth. Last time I saw a dentist, he filed some discolouration off my teeth, which is now textured and more discoloured from before, of course I'm now magically scared of dentists. Not sure this video has helped me any either, but it's good to know I'm not the only one that's had the 'fears confirmed' situation!

Proud of you that you're taking the right steps to control the situation even if it reinforces the fear, bad situation all around but you're handling it the best it can be held. I had an interesting thought tho while listening to this, I think there is a definite disparity in the autistic experience and how society functions/manages to adapt to neurodiversity and the size/population density of a country. To be a bit more direct, the way you described the lack of understanding for difficulty with needles, anxiety, and the fear of a procedure and willful refusal to treat you any different? This is something that I don't see all that often in the United States, at least in reasonable sized cities. But also I think it goes further in that industries and businesses, medical practices, every facet of our country's economy is so driven by the notion of customer appeal that there's always going to be someone that will cater to your needs and if they fail they usually will try their damnest to change for fear of losing business. This...doesn't seem to be the case in your neck of the woods. I don't mean to make you feel pessimism or anger at the difference, just an observation that I am making. If you feel it is on point though, perhaps that is something you can try and leverage for your own mental health; accept that things will be more difficult and develop more coping strategies to handle the higher occurrence of difficulty, or more strategies to unwind and relax and just blitz through the difficult parts.

It's true. I need patience, a longer appointment, and a pre meeting with a dentist just to get a reading from them...but that is too much. No one facilitates that. An NHS appointment where I live can take 6 months, and have specific time slots depending on procedure, but it doesn't allow for anything other than robotic perpetual motion. That's why I looked privately, to afford extra time and dictate the appointment so I felt a little bit of control, rather than a piece of meat.
I know it's more about how I deal with it rather than how I can get what I need from an unwinnable and uncomfortable experience. It's why I treat myself, take a day off to mentally recover etc. I just wish I didn't have to waste a lot more money and my annual leave to be considered.

George is so adorable 🥰 I see a Red Fox Labrador in my local park, very smart breed but I have to admit I am slightly afraid of them.
You really have a bad look with dentists and really sorry for commenting on that subject again, but I once had a dentist fear, until I worked as receptionist at medical/dental clinic. After a couple of months one of the dentists took me on her chair and all my fear was gone. It was the friendliness and laugh that helped. I developed a complete trust to the dentist even though she only had like two years of experience. It was difficult to go to someone else once she moved to Birmingham, but thankfully there was another dentist in the clinic that I like on a personal level. That dentist (dr Ewa Wronska) would be a perfect dentist for you but she's based in Reading. Bupa dentists/bupa associated dentists tend to go the extra mile.
Would you be able to have a blood donation?

There's really nothing to be afraid of with the Fox Red Labrador Retriever. They're great therapy pets for those with disabilities or conditions. Here's a link if you want to know more.

Ah, Reading is a touch too far for a Dentist trip for me. I could probably time some work around it, but it would be very hit and miss.
Just trying to slowly but surely go through my area and surrounding areas with a fine tooth comb to find the one...or at least one that doesn't create problems purposefully!
George is doing good, sorry to hear you are fearful, they're amazing creatures.

    Your puppy is cute.
I’m in fear of dentists too. The company I worked for recommended a particular dentist to me and added that it would be free of cost for me to go there. I was examined and he said I needed 22 fillings. I said “no” and left. I went to another dentist where I would have to pay the majority of the bill out of pocket. After examining me he said I needed 2 fillings. So I have stayed with him for decades because I don’t think he lies about what needs to be done but he does do a lot crowns over old fillings and after the work is done I get into bad chronic pain that wont go away-what I need is a root canal right after a new crown. It means you have to go back, get more Novacaine shots and have a drill put through your crown and rip out the root of the tooth. This has happened 3 times to me in a row. It hurts a lot, it costs a lot. The last crown I got recently (the. 4th) just hurt and hurt after. They say I don’t need a root canal but it’s still bleeding months after the work was done. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so I need 4 times the normal amount of Novacaine or I feel everything they do in my mouth. I trust him so it must be a case of whatever can go wrong will go wrong in my mouth.

      @AdultwithAutism  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow, no wonder you don't enjoy the dentist either. How do they go from 22 fillings to 2 though?! I just need to find someone who knows what they're doing, but also can understand when you feel uneasy about it all.
I need a lot more numbing juice, but mine is due to the adrenaline not letting it do anything. Then when I've left and have an adrenaline dump, my entire face goes numb for around 12 hours.

@@AdultwithAutism … clearly that first dentist lied to me and it’s appalling that anyone would make their living by doing unnecessary dental work. My face stays numb a long time too because I’ve had 4 times the normal dosing. I do not like dental work. Even the smell of a dentist’s office is so bad and the sound of drilling!

I hope you are not blaming your puppy for your flatulence, like I do with my little dog 🐩,you are right about parts of England going down hill. On Monday my wife and I had a drive to Newcastle from the New Forest where we live to visit her son,we had a brilliant few days there, on the Thursday we thought that we would stop in Blackpool for a couple of nights before we returned,we arrived there at 2:30pm and checked into the hotel which had a bad odour that I could smell as soon as we walked to the reception, after we checked in we went to our room which I would of been embarrassed to offer to a homeless person it was rank. By 3:00pm we were in the car heading home, it’s sad how a lot of lovely places are becoming run down.

The best part about about Blackpool is driving away from the place. I wasn't even a fan when I was a kid...and don't get me started on Birmingham! 😂

WOW! You just described my life at the dentist, extreme anxiety! I saw the same dentist from 19yrs who was a racist and lewd with me. It was horrible! He gave me a crown, I mean he did a crown on me and after I left him to find another dentist, they told me it looked like a tin can had been placed over the tooth, with pus coming out of it, no wonder my breath could stop a freight train. So second dentist was a young kid 30ish, we got along ok, until I told him about finding out I’m Autistic, and he said to me “that has nothing to do with what we are doing here today” I was mad, and kicked my shoes off and ended up in tears. Oh I forgot the one in between those two, it was awful, they cleaned my teeth with a high powered water blaster that was super loud, ugggg!
Now finally 4 dentist later I had found my dentist, she is kind and a female, which is more comfortable for me, after the last 3 dentist. I have pre-gingivitis and have to go every 3 months and next time, I’m bringing my eye mask and asking for less conversation while I’m in the chair. Why do they bloody ask questions, when they have their hands in my mouth, I will never understand. Anyway, just wanted to say, keep trudging on, and so glad that you google the guy, and was able to escape him. Cheers

I'm so scared of leaving the house that when I do I treat myself to a good coffee. I have to lure myself out of the house. 😅 But that's expensive when your poooooor. Well financially poor I'm happy because I have my family and a place to sleep and food. 😁
18:07 how did this guy keep his dentist license?! That's crazy! 😮
26:10 personal I don't care what sex you are or what you look like being afraid of stuff and being honest about it it really cool. I've had the worse guys in my life, but obviously not all men are crap. I hate that! Men have it hard too! Just like women. Just in a different way. That's my opinion. 😅
