Making a BJD wig with alpaca fiber

  • Hello everyone! My sister's wedding is tomorrow, so I'm posting this video a day earlier than usual since I'll be out of the house all day. Hope you don't mind!
    I'm back again with a second try at making Rune's wig. This time around I'm using alpaca fiber and creating a hard wig cap. Alpaca fiber is beautiful but can be expensive to work with. This wig cost me around $25 to make, including the wig cap and the glues, which I purchased specifically for this project. Because I cleaned and brushed the alpaca fiber myself, then made it into wefts, it took me close to 20 hours to get this wig made. Now that I've learned some tricks for cleaning the fiber, though, I think my future attempts will go much better.
    On the whole, since this was my very first time working with alpaca hair, I think it turned out okay! Now to just wait for my thinning shears to arrive so I can tame the poof of his ponytail.
    See you next week!

    Thank you for sharing this new doll wig making method. I've always been nervous about using alpaca hairs, but when I get the chance, I'll check it out for sure. Extremely revolutionary!!

    Can I ask the name of the glue you used? I thought it's just regular fabric glue but since you said toxic it's apparently not...

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive. It's similar to E6000 glue but it dries faster. It has the same super-strong smell as E6000, though.

    When I have a already style wig like that, can I wash it again? I read that I can use warm water.

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can definitely wash it! If the hair is attached to the wig cap with waterproof glue or is sewn on you can also use human hair products like shampoo. If it is attached with white glue, do not immerse the whole wig in water, just wash the fiber, and make sure it has plenty of time to dry.

    Hello! congrats for all your tutorials! Is it possible to reduce a 7-8" wig to fit a 5-6" head? I got 3 in a different size ( my mistake) and want to try fixing them by myself. Thank you :-)

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm... Well, I've added elastic to the inside of wig caps before to take it down a single size, but I'm afraid it would bunch up too much trying to take it down two sizes. :(

    Hey, how much fiber did you use?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought 2 ounces of 9 inch long raw locks and it was WAY too much for this project. It ended up being enough for about four SD wigs.

    • @RaKeLeBastet
      @RaKeLeBastet 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got 1 ounce of 11/13in, do you think it's enough for an MSD wig? Thank you btw! ^_^

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is an Iplehouse EID Luo but his face has been modified to repair some damage, so he doesn't look quite like the other Luos available. :)

      Different wigs for different things, I guess ^^ I like to have a variety of each of my dolls depending on what I want in each photo shoot. This guy has like six or seven wigs now, haha.
