As a huge hockey fan myself, I just wanted to point out to Pat that he is half-right on the fighting rules. Both players receive a 5-minute penalty for fighting, and then after the next stoppage in play after those 5 minutes, they're let out of the box. Which is indeed different from any other contact sport out there, where you'd get ejected almost immediately for throwing a punch. Also should mention many of the old Genesis NHL games allowed you to create players still and conduct trades for any team in the league whenever. Though NHL 94 had no true season mode, so I can see why many people still love that over some of the later ones.

The Genesis sound chip is really good actually. The model 1 Genesis had incredible sound through the headphones, i'd regularly rent Mercs just for the soundtrack. The problem with the genesis is that the data compression and storage is on the low side. For proof of this, there is a guy on TH-cam that just plays CD quality music from Tempo. The name of the video is "Sega Genesis PCM audio at the limit". Also, one more thing, there are dunks in this game that turn you into giant monsters like Godzilla and shit. The game blows but they are kind of hype.
BigBangBlitz I think you can make better Genesis music than SNES if you add a LOT more effort (ie everything Yuzo Koshiro did. Although he did a lot of SNES music too.) But average Genesis music was worse. It's gotta be the capacity.
BigBangBlitz The SNES is much more sophisticated but the Genesis sounds raw as fuck, and it turns out metallic 80s synths and distorted percussion have aged a lot better than the SNES' amazing array of trumpet noises.
BigBangBlitz I think the reason why the SNES and its games overall sound a lot better is because the way it creates music is purely based around PCM samples whereas the Mega Drive uses an FM synth + 1 PCM channel. SNES audio practically has no limitations. Hell, you could get an SNES game with MD-like sound if you had an FM synth and recorded some samples from that. It'd be a bit silly, but it's possible. The thing is, the MD creates those sounds in real-time, while the SNES doesn't, so it can't possibly do any dynamic audio modulation or anything like that. Also SNES audio sounds muffled a lot of the time because it uses a sample rate of 32khz. Both have their drawbacks but both are also really impressive at their height. The MD audio system is underrated, but a lot of its games just sound very jarring. It really just came down to talent and knowledge of the synth. Someone like Yuzo Koshiro would definitely know how to make good music on an MD since he worked on games for the PC-8801.

For anyone that doesn't know flux is a program that you put on your computer and it dims the screen and turns it slightly pinkish (you can adjust how much it changes the colour and brightness).
