This game WAS playable with the analogue controllers on PS1. The left stick was movement (obvs) and the right stick was directional fire. It was much less awkward than using the buttons.
The reason why the dialogue is kind of weird in this game, Matt, is that the game was originally being developed with Bruce Willis as a sidekick A.I. character. All of Bruce's lines were recorded in advance, but the dev team decided to drop the sidekick idea because playing as Bruce would be cool.
Liam didn't like Looper?! Because "The math was wrong"?? Did he not pay attention to the part where Bruce Willis specifically says "Don't talk/worry about time travel because we'll be here all day and it doesn't matter"? That was basically them saying "Don't try to diagnose the MATH, just enjoy the fucking movie"! Just another reason to dislike Liam
That level design reminds me of that one scene in Galaxy Quest where Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver had to go through that hallway with all those "traps". Noone would build something like that in real life. xD

To answer the best friends on whether Bruce was shoved in this game last minute. I remember reading somewhere that Activision actually got rights to use Bruce Willis likeness then hired Neversoft to make a game with him in it and they didn't care what. Apparently Willis was suppose to be an a main character NPC who guided the player but his role was changed to the protaganist to minimize his lines and need to be involved. Probably because Willis was didn't feel like being in a sound studio for hours.
